i don’t think palworld’s success is proof that people are disillusioned with the quality of modern pokémon games i think it would have been incredibly popular even if the general consensus on stuff like sv was overwhelmingly positive. because people who are drawn to that kind of thing are simply drawn to that kind of thing. they like creatures but they like more complex gameplay than what standard pokémon has always been. if anything it proves that a solid chunk of pokémon complainers could be made a lot happier by moving on from the franchise because the comfort and nostalgia won’t do it for them anymore. or at least they should have been trying more stuff in addition to pokémon in the first place

#pokémon #this isn’t a defense of palworld btw i don’t stan it #nor is this me defending all of gamefreak’s choices #but i think the concept of a legitimate pokémon rival that’s more open-world is a good idea #if it weren’t for the ai the obvious plagiarism and the capturing and selling humans #i’d be like hey good for everyone who found their new thing #anyway this is to say i don’t think gamefreak is freaking out right now and looking at this as a rival #if they are worried in any sense it’s less about quality and more about style #if anything they’re gonna be like hmm we should make more legends-style games #i do believe they learned their lesson from the backlash over sv about quality #palworld isn’t part of that
