KATH- the way i immediately started combing through my fic ideas for something ocean related when i saw your url

okay so i am going to tell you about my very baby fic idea about deep sea mermaids, which really only surfaces every now and then whenever i see one of your heat waves posts or i read something w mermaids but its still there!!!

zuko is a deep sea mermaid and therefore is large and sort of terrifying and cant see very well in sunlight bc shits bright and sokka is more of a... regular sea? mermaid so he's smaller (still large tho, bc i love Big mermaids) and his darker skin protects him from the sun

they meet when sokka is exploring along the edge of a trench and zuko strays too close to the top of it and effectively scares the shit out of sokka and then zuko accidentally sucks him into the trench when he spins and dives back down into it bc of the water movement or something idk

sokka is like "its fucking cold in here" and zuko is like "oh man my bad" but then he just disappears into the dark and sokka has to swim back up to the top which is annoying and exhausting

but then they both keep going back to the same trench wondering if they'll run into each other again and they do!! mostly they go to complain to each other about things but eventually they start talking about normal things and then somewhere they fall in love

sokka falls in love the first time they meet out in the open sea instead of their trench and he gets to see zuko's full form and zuko falls in love with sokka when he see's all of zuko's semi eldritch weirdness and calls him beautiful

and that's all i have and some of it probably doesn't line up with actual deep sea vs regular sea (that's what im going with) but they're mermaids so i think im allowed to make some stuff up but yeah!! hope you enjoyed this one bc it's one of my favourite baby ideas
