for all the more comedic posts i've made about könig's lucky luke book (out of love of course), there's something so deeply gratifying and relatable beyond words to have an artist who's experiences are so different from one's own, shaped by a lifetime longer and lived on a continent apart, understand a character in a way that is so in step with your own conception.
it's one thing for ralf könig to describe luke as an erotic symbol in an article (there's one where he specifically mentions him as specifically a gay object of desire, but i can't seem to track it down...):
but it's another for him to go on to pick out one of the very same elements i'm always rotating in my mind and put it in the comic itself just two pages in:
and then to go on to post these panels on his instagram in the very same manner as i might myself, with an eye for the unintended gay subtext...
there's just something very heartwarming about it, i can't seem to put it in any other way. and it's gratifying in the sense that it's nice to know that i'm not the only one turning over these same elements in my brain
