#Repost @pairingwithbeer I’ve been doing a lot of reading with my drinking this summer, and for good reason: the current social climate is one I need to be more understanding of, more attuned to - more clear on what is (and has been) really going on all around me. 🔬 🍻 I was able to get my hands a few of @blacklabbeer’s contribution to the @weatheredsoulsbrewing #blackisbeautiful initiative (look this up if you aren’t familiar!), a Summer Stout that is refreshingly clean and smooth. 100% of the proceeds of this beer went to @blacklegalactioncentre. It’s light body and sweet, roasted malt flavours definitely provide the perfect backbone to a leisurely read in the sun. ☀️ 🍻 I’m not sure “Until We Are Free: Reflections on Black Lives Matter in Canada” is what one would call a “leisurely read,” but it is certainly an incredibly engaging and eye-opening one. I found the book @adfrntbooklist, which is an awesome shop you should really look into! Compiled by @blm_to and edited by @rodneydiverlus, @sandymhudson, and @syrusmarcus, the book is a superb collection of pieces from members and associates of Black Lives Matter-Toronto, providing their own take on their history and philosophy. The form - jumping from narrative to academic argumentation to poetry to dialogue to something that might have come out of Nietzsche’s “Twightlight of the Idols” - the form of this book is to absolutely fall in love with! 👌🏻 🍻 And the content? Reading “Until We Are Free” has taken way longer that I expected it to: I’d say that every other page, maybe third page, after a paragraph or sentence or even a phrase, I found myself lost in thought for 15 mins or so, rather than reading. A lot of thinking. A lot of really good thinking. 💡 🍻 I highly, highly recommend the #pairing of a Black Is Beautiful summer stout with “Until We Are Free.” Right now is the perfect time to do the following: support local businesses (like @blacklabbeer and @adfrntbooklist); understand the world you live in (by reading relevant works, such as “Until We Are Free"), and work to make this world better for all of us. 🙏🍻❤️🖤 . #pairingwithbeer #thisiscraftbeerlifestyle 🍻 . . 📸 by @jann.kapture https://www.instagram.com/p/CFczB4-nFak/?igshid=1oy615bshlicf

#Repost @pairingwithbeer ・・・ “Birds Of A Feather” is a Neopolitan milk stout from @littlebeastsbrewco. It’s a perfect #pairing with this collab artwork in Toronto’s graffiti alley by @yung.yemi and @stay_relevant. 🎨 ✊🏻 I was excited to visit graffiti alley to view all the newly added artwork in honour of Black Lives Matter. My thinking was to pair the beer with the alley itself, and then I saw this oh-too-perfect work. 😍 ✊🏻 The saying, “birds of a feather,” refers to birds flocking with birds of the same species (i.e., feather), but as any bird watcher knows they don’t watch only one type of bird - they enjoy the beauty of ALL birds. In fact, the rarest birds they are most keen on. 🦢🦅 ✊🏻 Which is to say, uniqueness and variety are the spice of life. Translate that onto society, and we need as diverse a society as possible to achieve the greatest beauty. ❤️ ✊🏻 @yung.yemi and @stay_relevant created this beautiful work, which, to me, speaks about the beauty of uniqueness and individuality, about the beauty of difference and originality. The hieroglyphics allude to the uniqueness of each human being’s palm of their hand, the cracks and crevices that repeat in patterns. We all have our own feathers, but feathers indeed we do all have. 🐦 ✊🏻 Enjoying @littlebeastsbrewco milk stout provides a delicious calm; a smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, relaxing and conducive to contemplation. A very well-balanced beer with chocolate, a touch of espresso, a subtle punch of almost-tart raspberry. It’s lighter than expected and provides a very muted, dry bitter finish. It kind of brings together the best of many worlds - in a word, “unique.” 🐾 ✊🏻 We live in a world where different feathers are key to learning to soar higher, yet many fear flocking with birds of a different feather. Crack open a bottle of Little Beast’s “Birds Of A Feather,” and dig into the colour and beauty of art produced by different feathers, like the work of Yemi and Stay_Relevant. Expand your mind; open your heart; grow your soul; and learn more about the beauty of human beings, regardless of your feathers. 🦢🦅🎨🍻 . #pairingwithbeer #thisiscraftbeerlifestyle 🍻 . . 📸 by @100sideprojects https://www.instagram.com/p/CCJZOVsHxS2/?igshid=ez0715fkz2fp

#Repost @pairingwithbeer ・・・ The "Bonsai Kitten" is a white IPA from @commongoodbrewing, available year round. The beer is quite a predictable #pairing with a Mason jar. 🏺 🍻 Seriously though: with a Mason jar. 🥛(Why is there no jar emoji?!) 🍻 Yes, I was quite surprised myself to learn what this beer is named after: a defunct satirical website that marketed "bonsai kittens;" kittens that were put inside a Mason jar so that the shape of their growth inside the jar was controlled - similar to cultivating a bonsai tree. ✂️🌳🙀 So yes, the beer pairs perfectly with a Mason jar. 🍯 🍻 As I pet my bonsai kitten (the can of beer) in it's jar, sitting against a tree in my backyard, a dank waft of herbs and grapefruit arises from the hazy, orange-yellow liquid. A deceivingly easy taste that follows the citrus-heavy nose disguises the Bonsai Kitten's heavy-hitting 7.7% ABV. A subtle, sweet malt backbone balances the herbal and citrus hops nicely, and give the impression of easy drinking. A mild bitterness makes these great for drinking in the backyard in the sun, but, with it's high ABV, at a more responsible pace. ⏰ 🍻 Crack your can; crack your Mason jar. We're stuffing high ABVs in cans and crushed cans in jars - all in the comfort of your own back yard. Enjoy your Bonsai Kitten from Common Good, and crush the can, but not quite the contents inside as quickly: we're growing into the shape we want over here with this one. 👌🏻🔥✂️🌳🙀🍯👀🙄🍻 . #pairingwithbeer #thisiscraftbeerlifestyle 🍻 . . 📸 by @100sideprojects and edited by @pairingwithbeer ✨ . . #Repost @pairingwithbeer ・・・ The “Fuzzier Peach” Brett IPA from @shacklandsbrewing is a delightful #pairing with @wrestlejunction ✨ . Playing with brett to draw out the uncommon fruity flavours that the yeast is capable of producing to create a playful IPA with a tart peach flavour, light, fizzy mouthfeel and dry, muted-bitter finish was a way for Shacklands to concoct a beer that drinks like fun. ✨ . The playfulness of the beer pays compliment to an afternoon watching (or, care of @ryanwright_official , being yanked into) a Junction City Wrestling match: full of hilarious storylines, exaggerated characters and daring athleticism, the experience is one that plays out with untamed, juvenile action and gives body to the “peach candy” that Shacklands has produced here. ✨ . Besides, not only did Shacklands host the first ever Junction City Wrestling event, but @shacklandsdave is also a reoccurring character on their shows, so I already know full-well that these two are down to be paired - or, more appropriately, made into a tag-team. 😉 . Don’t forget to bring your yelling voice to the show. 🤼‍♀️🍑🍻 #pairingwithbeer #thisiscraftbeerlifestyle ✨ . . 📸 @youbymia ✨ . . #Repost @pairingwithbeer ・・・ The “Sweetback’s Milk Stout” from @rainhardbrewing is a creamy, easy-drinking stout that offers up flavours of dark chocolate, coffee and subtle marshmallow. It is also an excellent #pairing with @okeeffescompany “Working Hands” hand cream - the creaminess of Sweetback’s clearly alludes to O’Keeffe’s, with the mouthfeel coating one’s tongue like the cream coats one’s working hands; the sweet finish of the beer mimics the soothing sensation that the cream provides to any chapped, dry skin; and with the Rainhard philosophy of doing as much as possible with one’s hands (see blog post on Friday for more details!), one’s working hands do need some soothing attention if they are to come back to produce more delicious beer tomorrow... Grab a hold, mould and create - just don’t forget the Sweetback’s, and don’t forget to mend those hands afterwards. 🖐 🤚🍻 #pairingwithbeer #thisiscraftbeerlifestyle 🍻 . . 📸 @youbymia ✨ . .
