Hathor Rising: Chapt 8
Min:
Paired with Aset

Min-Amun:
“the fecundator of his mother”
most often rendered as Min-Amun-Kamutef, or Min-Amun-Bull-of-his-Mother
This deity is both his father and his own son. “the agent of his own rebirth, brought about by the fertilization of his own mother”
Most often paired with Mut (henadology mentions that Mut is also a bull of her mother, in that she is both the mother and the daughter, a self-rebirther that doesn’t seem to need a partner to rebirth)
Harvest Festival:
Occurs evening before the new moon in the 9th month of the year, a month named for Khonsu
Most of this information will be pulled from a relief in the second court in Ramessess III’s funerary temple.
Relief starts with the king being carried from his palace. He goes to the temple to consecrate offerings, and then he escorts the god forth for the main part of the ceremony. They aren’t sure where the king takes this god, but the theory used in this book is that they take the god to a shrine that has been set up in a grain threshing area.
  Then the king takes a copper sickle and sheers some emmer wheat. A shemayt priestess (possibly the queen) dances around him while a lector priest recites incantations seven times.
“Hail Min who fecundates his Mother, How secret is that which you have done to her In the darkness, O Divine one, Sole one”
A priest then lays the grains before the god, which contains seed for next year’s harvest.
In several reliefs featuring this festival, there is a retinue of ancient kings, suggesting that this is an act of renewal for the entire line of kingship for AE.
Brings together the food cycles of nature and the regenerative cycle of kingship
Roberts uses the Tale of Two Brothers to illustrate that the “masculine urge as the potent source of regeneration -- potency which the female is powerless to destroy. Through this bizarre way in which Bata accomplishes his own rebirth, namely by entering the mouth of the unwilling female in the form of a splinter of wood, masculine power in the vegetal way of renewal is vindicated. It is the kamutef who forever gives birth to himself through the Mother, an act which also brings about an ever-repeating cycle of regeneration and continuity in the royal line of kings.”
In some respects, Roberts allmost makes it sound like Kamutef is a force that is innate (the same way that ma’at and isfet are) and that it seeks out an outlet via the Mother, who is a perfect place for the fertility to reach realization -- with or without a male counterpart being involved (imo)
Kamutef in the Solar Cycle:
“Seeding the mother goddess at the end of the day in order to give birth to the next cycle the dying god sinks into the protective arms of [Aset] to be born anew at dawn. Through her lies the hope of ever-repeating life as the god returns to his origins to be taken care of in the maternal embrace” (barf)
“The preservation of the royal line involves many generations of kings, all of whom in their turn have been sons of the bull god and Aset, and all, too, have impregnated the MOther for self-regeneration.”
By becoming Kamutef, it allows the king to take the “seed” that is passed on to each generation of kings that engages with Aset in this fashion. In a sense, Aset (or whichever goddess is being the “mother” at the time) keeps the seed hidden and locked away, and you have to, uh, kamutef with her to gain access to that seed, which you will then take into yourself, and beget yourself anew. I think? Roberts also talks about women guarding seed in the Tale of the Two Brothers mentioned above.
Once you have partaken of this, you are “initiated into the Living Kas, who live in him by virtue of the royal seed” that was given to him by Aset.
This relies heavily on wordplay with the word “ka” and implies several layers of meaning including the fact that a ka is a nutritive force, that it is a source of life, that it shows up in the name ‘kamutef’ and that the Harvest Festival is a mixture of both regeneration for kings and renewing of cycles of nature (aka food), both of which are the realm of the Ka.
