Luci's eyes are bright as her and Ryan turn a corner on the main street, passing the Market to head to a bistro. She tries (and fails) not to look through the market window for Aiden, a small smile when she catches a glimpse of him sorting through pastries in the glass container while people order their coffees and treats. Her heart does a ridiculous skip. They don't meet eyes or anything, the walk-by is too quick, but she loves seeing him in his element.

So easily handsome it's unfair. And he's yours, a voice dares to say. She shakes her head, running a hand through her hair as she focuses on moving forward. There's still ice and snow on the sidewalks and the last thing she wants to do is spill head-over-tincups because she's focused on a guy.

Besides, she's too nervous to have thoughts like that. At least not yet.

She turns her attention to the gorgeous blonde next to her, her chest warm with gratefulness at the thought that Ryan wanted to have lunch today, hang out.

"So it's a bistro?" She asks, excited to check out a Briarwood favorite.

BOTR - Day 27 - July 11, 2024

Diane had attempted this hike earlier in the week but turned away when she saw the ruggedness of the road and the lack of people nearby. Today, she drove the 30 minutes back to that gravel road and parked before it got too rough. Her hike then started from the van, to the trailhead, and on up the trail.

While she thought it would be desolate, Diane was surprised to see that the trailhead was packed with cars. And so, her adventure into the San Isabel Forest proved to be a beautiful place to hike.

This evening, Diane went to a local Salida restaurant with seating on the river. After dinner she hung out to hear a bluegrass band that just so happened to be from NC.

She wrapped up the night by calling Lida, the cab driver, for a ride back to the hostel.

The cycling crew was and out by 8am-ish. We had a 3000’ climb ahead over a distance of 15 miles. Fortunately, the gravel road wasn’t too rough and the incline was reasonable. David H drove the van, following us to pick up stragglers if necessary. We all just cranked it out, pedal stroke after pedal stroke. Along the way, the views grew larger and larger. The peaks got closer and closer. Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) passed us mostly coming down from the top. We ground it out…

On top of Cumberland Pass we celebrated with pictures, cokes, and great views. The decent was rocky and wash-boarded on top. After we dropped a couple miles, the road smoothed out and we rolled into the town of Tincup.

Tincup has four winter residents. In the summer two businesses operate, a restaurant, which hit the spot, and a general store that sells souvenirs. We supported both businesses.

After lunch we continued to drop down past Taylor Reservoir and on until we hit Jack’s Cabin Crossroad which brought us right back to the Day 1 roads. We descended for over 35 miles total. However, we still needed to get back to CB and that was uphill, into the wind. We set up a paceline and cranked through the final 11 miles. Once done, we were done.

David K was done, finished…

Beers for all. We ate what we had left in the van. Sleep was so-so but at least we had finished our ride without mechanical issues or injuries!

Daisy smiles, her stomach doing this ridiculous swooping that tells her she's already head over tincups attracted to Aiden. Which is probably not good for anyone. She nods, looking down at her hands as she thinks about how nice of a time she had, how nervous she was at the beginning of the night.

"This was a great, real date." She confirms with a grin before leaning forward and she...she hopes she isn't overstepping? But she plants a soft kiss to his lips.

"I would love to go out again...I'm letting you know right now." She laughs softly.

Aiden smiles softly and he's really glad Daisy did have a nice time. He knows he's more of the reserved side, is kind of a simple person and he might not be for everyone in that aspect. More realistically, he's not as outgoing as August, bold, maybe even brave. But he thinks that's okay.

"Well I'm happy this wasn't a disaster," he tells her sincerely. "It was really nice, haven't really been on a real date in a while. Usually it's just talking to someone when I go out but that's it," he tells her truthfully. "So thanks for asking me. And... if you wanted to do it again sometime, just let me know."
