The story of Ser'ran is by far the most widely known Duellin legend, especially since Ser'ran is the only known Duellin individual in existence to have ever possessed magickal abilities of any kind. The legend goes that Ser'ran, a well-respected Duellin fighter, was visiting a nearby seashrine in order to pay her respects to the ocean Ascended, when a Lith battle unit descended upon the shrine with the intention of tearing it to the ground. Ser'ran, armed only with her trusty fishing spear and her fighting expertise single-handedly fought the battle unit and won, driving the cursed machine away from the shrine and killing the Lith individual piloting it. The sea god was watching over Ser'ran on that day, and to show gratitude for Ser'ran's dedication to protecting the seashrine, they bestowed upon her a unique gift of water magic, which Ser'ran promised to use to benefit the Duellin people.

It has been centuries since Ser'ran's passing, yet her loss is still felt keenly in the hearts of many, and the Duellin's hatred and distrust of the Lith has never been stronger. Ser'ran has become a symbol of protection and as a result, you will often find statuettes or depictions of Ser'ran at the entrances of both public and personal seashrines alike. Duellin are always happy to tell the tale of their most acclaimed warrior with vigor and many 'embellish' the tale with extra 'details' - a personal favourite is the old Duellin fisherman who insists there were eight battle units instead of just the one. Been working on this piece in between commissions - I really love how it came out! I've been working on developing my fantasy headworld, Torvus, and my recent focus has been on the Duellin, a sharklike race of fisherman and fighters who have close ties to the ocean, and are the only race on Torvus entirely incapable of using magick. UUUHHHHHHH art! My hiatus isn’t quite officially over yet (SOON™️), but I’ve been developing Torvus while I’ve been on holiday :)

Also humans??? This is the first one I’ve drawn in months and he’s Actually Okay, which is honestly pretty incredible considering I never draw them. Anyway, enjoy! Human’s name is David, the shark thing sitting down is a Duellin (have talked a bit about them before), and the creatures with wings are the Ffel, a nomadic species that use special ‘boats’ to cross the desert sands to trade with other races.
