Thoughts on the new How to Train Your Dragon 3 trailer:

I LOVED IT!!

Soo positives:

Stoick flashback. i’m not crying, you’re crying..

The lightfury, personality wise. I especially love the scene where she knocks hiccup off of toothless. She’s tryin her best to be a good friend and you can tell toothless loves and appreciates it, but also has to go save hiccup now. absolute gold.

I love how hiccup and the gang are like, special ops. Looking forward to some some nice gang bonding moments.

The dark bewilderbeast is on their side!! I wonder what that means for drago? Death? Redemption? I am intrigued!!!

Hiccup has some good funny lines. I was worried he’d be like ‘I’m a serious hero with all the burdens’ but na. They stuck to hiccups original awkwardness which means they understand what makes hiccup a good lead

These aren’t negatives per-say (seeing as the film isn’t out yet), but more ‘things i’m questioning’:

Music is good but the singer is garbage #BringBackJonsi

I hope valka is explored in more detail, there’s a lot of complex emotions between hiccup and her that need to be addressed. 

One dragon is just dubbed over with a nazgul scream?? I hope this is just trailer editing and not the actual sound?

The bad guy looks a bit generic. But bad guys always seem to be the weak point in httyd films. Although i like how he fucking one-shots that dragon. That was pretty menacing.

Ok the nest? Each film, hiccup finds the ‘dragon’s nest’ - but not really -  because he finds the real dragon’s nest in the next film? I hope these link together and are explained properly. It better not be just an overused plot point. 

The lighting and scenery in the battle sequence looks good but the rest isn’t blowing me away. I hope they keep up the AestheticsTM of the last two films.

Also in terms of visual design, this is my least favourite dragons nest. Would much rather have the molten rock and smoke aesthetic instead of ‘under the sea’. 

I still think the lightfury design is kinda bad. The fact that they gave her really smooth skin. I’m sure they had their reasons, but to me, she just looks poorly rendered (which clashes with the very detailed animation style of the rest of the movie). She would have benefited from a more textured design is all i’m saying.
