9. “War’s End” kiss

No one was unhappy when the Turian War came to an end. Well, those profiting from it were probably bummed out, but every fellow soldier that Steve knew rejoiced. They were finally going home. 

“You look like shit.” 

Steve did look like shit, and he felt like shit. He was being called back to the Citadel effective immediately which meant he was out of time for another matter. 

He met Lt. Billy Hargrove when they were both stationed Tethys. Their relationship had been strained and antagonistic until Billy dragged him into an empty alcove and made his interest known. 

They were at war, Steve had been single for years, and they both needed something warm and soft on the cold base. Steve hadn’t meant to fall in love. 

“Harrington,” Billy snapped his fingers in front of Steve’s face. “People are celebrating. Stop looking like sad pelican.” 

Steve laughed, grabbing Billy’s hand and tugging him to sit down. There was a lot to celebrate. There was peace in the Milky Way, Steve was going home a war hero, and Billy had been tapped as a candidate for Spectre. 

“I’m just thinking about stuff.” Like the fact that he and Billy were about to be at opposite ends of the galaxy. 

“Cheer up, Harrington,” Billy draped his arm around Steve’s shoulders and kissed the side of his neck. “The war’s over.”
