This week in baseball, Connie edition
May 4
~ Abner Uribe (Brewers pitcher) and José Siri (Rays) got mad at each other and had a slap fight.
~ Mark Vientos, temporarily back from the minors to fill in for Starling Marte, hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning on Sunday.
~ In a game against the Diamondbacks on Monday, the Dodgers went the entire game without striking out even once, the first time the team has done so since 2006.
~ The next day's game was delayed due to a bee infestation at Chase Field. A beekeeper was called in to handle the problem, and afterwards when the game finally started, he got to throw the first pitch.
~ Jake Cronenworth hit his third career grand slam.
~ Paul DeJong (White Sox shortstop) received a warm reception at Busch Stadium, where he used to play for the Cardinals.
~ Luis Arraez was traded from the Marlins to the Padres and right off the bat became the first Padres player ever to have a 4-hit game in his team debut.
~ Max Muncy hit three home runs in a single game, a first for him!
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

June 1
~ Ronald Acuña Jr. is out for the season. Poor guy. ☹️
~ Jake Cronenworth achieved his 500th career hit.
~ Blake Treinen got his first save since 2021.
~ Jorge "I play for the worst team" Lopez tossed his glove into the stands after getting ejected. He's been DFA'd.
~ A hundred career home runs for Will Smith!
~ Matt Carpenter hit his first home run of the season.
~ Pete Alonso hurt his finger Wednesday, but was able to pinch hit for Brett Baty late in Thursday's game and did a great job, scoring a run. J.D. Martinez also hit a home run in the 8th inning of that same game. I love those guys.
~ José Siri had a two-homer game on Thursday vs. the A's.
~ Shohei Ohtani stole his 100th base!
~ Seiya Suzuki hit a grand slam.
~ So did Christian Walker.
~ And J.P. Crawford. It was a day for grand slams, I guess.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

April 20
~ Cody Bellinger's pants ripped.
~ Andy Pages scored his first run in his major league debut, thanks to Austin Barnes' RBI.
~ Ian Happ hit a grand slam.
~ Kyle Schwarber hit his 250th career home run.
~ Jack Leiter, pitcher for the Rangers, made his debut Thursday. Jack's father Al was a pitcher once upon a time, as was the father of Jack's cousin Mark Leiter Jr. (who currently pitches for the Cubs), making Al and Mark Sr. the first MLB brothers whose sons would also join the MLB.
~ Whit Merrifield hit his first homer as a player for the Phillies. And in the new City Connect uniform, no less! Good for him.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

May 25
~ Rafael Devers set a Red Sox record with home runs in six straight games.
~ Freddie Freeman hit his sixth career grand slam on Monday.
~ Bobby Witt Jr. tied his career high with six RBIs in a single game on Tuesday, including two home runs. (It's a week for sixes, I guess.)
~ Kyren Paris hit his first career home run.
~ David Peralta is with the Padres now! ❤️
I'm sure a lot more happened than that, just not very much that caught my attention or interest this week. Let me know if I missed anything cool.

May 18
~ Ian Happ has been on base in 61 consecutive games against the Pirates, an all-time record. (What a weird thing to keep track of.)
~ Rookie Pirates pitcher, Paul Skenes, tied two records for his team, for strikeouts in his first two games--one with Jacob deGrom, for the game Skenes pitched in on Friday, and one with Nick Maddox, set in 1907, for the most through two outings. It's a big week for Paul Skenes.
~ Randy Arozarena scored on a throwing error from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in a Rays/Jays game on Friday. Guess that was Randy's way of getting back at Vladimir for beating him at last year's Home Run Derby.
~ In that same game, a ball bounced off of Daulton Varsho's helmet on his way to second base.
~ Miguel Vargas is back!
~ Jason Heyward too. He hit a homer in Friday's game.
~ Justin Verlander passed Max Scherzer in number of strikeouts, moving up to #11 on the all-time strikeouts list.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

May 11
~ Brett Baty bumped into an umpire. (Say that five times fast.)
~ Luke Raley hit his first home run as a Mariner.
~ James Outman, rocking a new clean-shaven look, hit his first home run in over a month, after getting no hits in his last three games.
~ The Phillies have their longest home winning streak since 2010, having won their last 11 games at Citizens Bank Park (as of Tuesday).
~ J.D. Martinez broke up a Braves no-hitter with a home run in the 9th inning with 2 outs. Attaboy, Julio Daniel. 💙🧡
~ The Tigers beat the Astros after scoring 7 runs in the 2nd inning alone, including a grand slam from Mark Canha and a two-run homer from Kerry Carpenter, who also hit another homer in the 4th.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

April 27
~ Tomás Nido is the first Mets catcher this season to throw a base stealer out. (Are Alvarez and Narvaez just bad at it?)
~ Tyler Glasnow pitched 8 shutout innings in that same game on Sunday.
~ Nido also hit a home run on Friday, in the same game that J.D. Martinez made his debut with the New York Mets and hit an RBI double.
~ Paul Goldschmidt hit a home run on Monday after going 20 games without an extra base hit. Nolan Gorman hit a homer in the 9th inning of that same game, his first walk-off home run.
~ Cal Raleigh got four hits, plus a home run, in last Saturday's game in Denver against the Rockies. He's the first Mariners catcher to do so since 1996.
~ Addison Barger hit the ball nearly 400 feet for his first at-bat in his Wednesday debut with the Blue Jays, but at Kauffman Stadium, (where the Royals play in Kansas City) that wasn't far enough to clear the wall, and Kyle Isbel caught it.
~ Pete Alonso's 200th career home run!
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

April 13
~ Riley Greene's pants ripped.
~ Jackson Holliday is living his best life. Got an RBI in his debut, but not an actual base hit.
~ Bryan Reynolds hit his 100th career home run.
~ The Royals swept the Astros. Last week, they swept the White Sox. That's eight home games in a row that they've won.
~ Shea Langeliers, star of the A's, hit three homers in one game, beating the Rangers.
~ Colton Cowser hit the first two home runs of his major league career in the same game. Done some pretty good fielding, too.
~ Tyrone Taylor hit a grand slam in Thursday's game against the Braves, off of a pitch from former Mets player Luis Guillorme. He isn't normally a pitcher, but it was one of those situations where the Braves were losing so bad that they sent in a non-pitcher as a substitute pitcher in the 9th inning. That was fun to see.
~ Zach McKinstry pitched in the 12th inning of a Tigers/Twins game and it didn't go so well.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

April 6
~ Génesis Cabrera shoved José Caballero in the face.
~ Miguel Rojas already hit his 2nd home run of the season!
~ Iván Herrera unexpectedly hit the first home run of the Cardinals home opener.
~ Lourdes Gurriel Jr. set a record for the Diamondbacks, hitting a home run in each of the first three games of the season.
~ Teoscar Hernandez hit 4 homers in four consecutive games!
~ I learned that Christian Yelich never got a hit on opening day in the first ten years of opening days in his MLB career, but finally got one on opening day this year. Thought it was a neat little bit o' trivia.
~ A.J. Puk (Marlins pitcher) had his first big league start and got 6 walks in two innings. Ouch.
~ The Pirates won the first 5 games of their season for the first time in more than 40 years.
~ Adolis García hit his 100th career home run.
~ Bryce Harper hit three homers in a single game (Thrice Harper), one of them being the 1,000th of his career.
~ Mookie Betts reached 1500 hits, and apparently he's had more hits and more home runs so far this season than some entire teams have had. Or something like that. Mookie Betts is one of those players I feel I don't have to pay much attention to because everyone else does it for me.
~ The Lowe brothers are both on the IL? I watched a Rays vs. Rangers game and they weren't there, and I was disappointed.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.

This week in baseball, Connie edition:
~ A ball hit by Gavin Lux tore through the webbing of Jake Cronenworth's glove, allowing Lux to reach first base at the first game of the Seoul Series (okay, that was last week, but I'm counting it because it was the Dodgers’ and Padres’ first official game, before the rest of the teams had their opening day).
~ Miguel Rojas hit a home run on Friday’s game, 3/29. Worth mentioning because it's only March and last season, Miguel didn't hit any homers until August. I wonder if having the pressure of being the everyday shortstop removed and given to Mookie did anything to help that.
~ The Mets’ Jeff McNeil got mad and yelled at Rhys Hoskins of the Brewers for sliding into second too hard and knocking Jeff over. The benches cleared but nothing really came of it.
~ The Diamondbacks set a record in their season opener with 14 runs scored in the third inning alone.
If I missed anything, feel free to let me know.
