Royal AU with time travel for Henjasp, pretty please, if that's okay?
The first thing that popped into my mind was: ballroom dance. It's only natural. How you GET to said ballroom dance, I do not know. But I have two ideas.
Under read more cuz idk this is long and also spoilers
1. First one I thought was p good. For some reason, Hendrik and Jasper are trapped in a time loop. Initially, they don't realize it because Yggdrasil was just destroyed and the world has been thrown into bedlam.
So. Hendrik's and Jasper's first days in this new apocalyptic world are pretty different. Hendrik has arrived at Cobblestone and is trying to help rebuild into the Last Bastion while Jasper is being Evil in the now-destroyed Heliodor Castle. Hendrik's first day's pretty difficult — they already have a cemetery. The survivors barely manage to construct one house as shelter against monsters.
The next day, Hendrik wakes up face-down in wherever the fuck, same as yesterday. He doesn't think much of it (he's a himbo, after all), so it takes a few tries, but something is obviously wrong.
I personally think Hendrik would confront Jasper first. Jasper's more the wait-and-see type, even if he knows time is fucked. So first confrontation you have the same one we witnessed in game, with monster Jasper fleeing at the end.
Hendrik returns to the destroyed castle every day. At first, Jasper doesn't want to talk. He's finished with Hendrik, refuses to have Hendrik change his mind.
Only... little by little, Hendrik definitely does. After the first fight, Hendrik acknowledges Jasper's insecurities and acknowledges that to get out of this time fuckery, they're going to have to work together.
For this, I would write an ending perhaps where Hendrik and Jasper manage to join forces with the Luminary and defeat Mordegon, with Jasper living through the whole thing. It'd be a slowburn, with angst and Jasper having to come to terms with being Good.
(Note: Even IF the others are also re-experiencing everything, I doubt they'd be able to make all the progress required to reach any sort of endgame in one day. These (and many others) are the details I don't have answers to in a lil idea bubble, people...) A kiss would prob be the thing to break their Cursed Groundhog Day.
There's nothing inherently "royal" about that except maybe that they're both knights. Oops, dropped the ball on that, sorry. But I think the idea is still good?
2. Suspend disbelief for a moment and imagine a world where Eleven shatters the Sphere of Time, but everyone's yeeted not only back in time, but into alternate universes.
HenJasp end up ten years back in a universe where Dundrasil never fell. Mordy's still around and HenJasp have still had to go through knight training, etc., so they live in Heliodor. But Eleven is a little prince and Jade is Hendrik and Jasper's ward. At least, Hen/Jasp look after her sometimes.
Hendrik has a Tough Time at first coming to terms with Jasper being alive, let alone everything else about this other timeline. Jasper's not doing much better, but he's much more capable of bottling it up (as one does).
The two are in their twenties. They have a (sort-of) future ahead of them. Hendrik knows now that this was the time Jasper had spent plotting to betray them. They know Carnelian is a fake and all sorts of other nifty info, but it's hard addressing any of it when Jasper still feels the way he feels, but there's not much he can do.
Does Jasper go to "Carnelian" and try to convince him that he knows what happens in the future? I'm more inclined to say Jasper waits (again) and in the meantime, he and Hendrik are readjusting to knight life (haha). The royal life is lavish, yet there's an air of tension between them, an air of urgency.
I feel like Jasper and Hendrik have a lot of trouble confronting each other. But at some point, someone has to crack. It's essentially both of you against the world, after all.
I imagine there's a scene where Hendrik finally manages to forgive Jasper for alllll the shit that happened, and there's slow dancing at a ball. (Could you imaaaagiiine... forgiveness. (I had to 😭))
So, relationship building happens, yada yada, until Mordegon makes an early move and both of them have to make a decision again. (And hopefully that time Jasper makes the right choice.)
Thanks for the ask. I enjoyed writing it. I don't know about you but now I kinda want to read these? At least the second one, definitely.
