#The Facts and Legends of Callie Catwell#aroaessidhe 2022 reads#i enjoyed this actually!#well i probably had low expectations just bc of the cover lol. it's just as good as any other tradpub ya contemporary i've read#the monster is like. barely a thing. like it's very much just a quirky element that hardly has anything to do with the story other than a th#thematic bookend lol. so like not necessarily a spec-fic/supernatural/etc book rec#i would say it's def pretty simple and light hearted aside from some elements (moment of attempted sa friend's stepdad abusing him her dad'#like aside from particular moments or themes everything else is very light#i liked that there wasn't really a love triangle or any hard feelings re: the girl that asked her best friend out#like it was literally just that she asked her out and they kissed a few times but then mei realised she had feelings for callie#unfortunately i cannot read a lesbian friends to lovers yearning story without having be*ujes feelings.....#i think the whole thing with her staying with the dude who is like. terrible. was a bit weird. like you can see the in-text justification of#it; self-hatred self-destruction (not self hatred about her asexulaity as much as just in general)#but i felt like he could have been less of an objectively terrible piece of shit with no redeeming qualities#like if there was some nuance there it might have been more believable#anyway thats me thoughts#asexual books
