Faced with Donald Trump's tariff threats against Canada, the latter must go “eye for eye, tooth for tooth,” play to its strengths and not put itself in a position of weakness vis-à-vis him, by avoiding responding to every one of his “outlandish” assertions.

At her traditional news conference at the start of the year, FTQ (Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec) president Magali Picard spoke of the fears from her major affiliated unions and their members in the face of the 25 per cent tariff threats issued by the U.S. president-elect.

The United Steelworkers, Unifor and the Teamsters, all major affiliates of the QFL, would be particularly hard hit by these potential U.S. tariffs, since they have a strong presence in mining, metallurgy, timber, forestry and transport.

The FTQ's position is important because its major affiliates have links with American unions, which could become either allies for jobs or obstacles in this debate.

Unifor said on Sunday that its members at Canadian National Railway CNR.TO have ratified a new four-year collective agreement, averting a potential strike action. Unifor, which represents more than 3,000 members at the railroad’s Council 4000 and Local 100 committees, said the agreement includes improvements to wages and benefits as well as job protections for members working in CN terminals and headquarters across Canada. The railroad earlier this month had reached a new tentative four-year collective agreement with the union.

im pretty sure when steve hillenberg said spongebob was asexual he probably wasn't aware of the term as a personal identifying label but that was The most elegant way someone could have handled "conservative parents think your children's cartoon character is endorsing a homosexual lifestyle" in the 2000s without alienating the gay people who'd already adopted him as a community symbol because of it

like, what a concise way to say "this character's sexual preferences were never a topic of consideration for me and it's weird that you think they were." it's not a focus of the show, but characters ARE depicted in romantic relationships in an age-appropriate way for its demographic, so i think it's notable that he only addresses the topic of sex (instead of saying something insane like "hal was a straight computer.")

he correctly identified that their rhetoric centered on sneakily conflating "gayness" with "sexual deviance" and only shut down the accusation that he was showing kids inappropriate sexual content without even justifying the part-and-parcel "a gay relationship in a kids' cartoon that's depicted exactly the same as a straight one is still intrinsically sexual" with a response

After a marathon of bargaining over the course of more than 24 consecutive hours this week Canada’s largest public sector union Unifor reached a tentative deal with Ford Motor Company. The new deal will cover more than 5,600 workers at Ford’s Canadian facilities in Ontario and Alberta. “What a time to fight for working people right now,” said Unifor President Lana Payne in a press conference on Tuesday announcing the deal. “And for unions, you’ve just got to stick at it right now and take advantage of the moment that we’re in and try to make sure that we’re making generational gains for workers because that is what collective bargaining can do. It can change lives; and we believe we will change some lives with this agreement.”

Yo so apparently my favourite verse of solidarity forever is even better now ("all the world that's owned by idle drones...")???

The Unifor folk I was singing and walking the line with today have apparently decided the line "[the world] is ours not to slave in but to master and to own" is #problematic and replaced it with "[the world] is ours not to toil in but to honour and to grow" which

1. Duh, there's been more and more people saying the references to slavery are uncalled for (which is fair)

2. I love the word "honour" so much it works so well here

3. Not totally sold on "grow". For one it doesn't rhyme. I do see the problem with "own" but that's also not necessarily what is meant. More "own and control *collectively*. Fine either way ig. "Grow" probably goes better with "honour" tho so that's awesome

Overall it comes out softer, which isn't necessarily my style (I still prefer Kerr's translation of the international to Billy bragg's) but it works here I think. Especially since the last few verses of the song really feel like their about *building* something new (compare the "parasites" verse in the beginning to the end "we can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old")

i love comparing yoko, kamina and kittan's designs because the rgb colour palette is really pleasing to the eye but my favourite part of it is each of them only have 2 colours. yoko has yellow eyes and kittan has yellow hair, kamina has red eyes and yoko has red hair, kittan has blue eyes and kamina has blue hair - BUT kamina and yoko both have outfits that are prodominatly red whilst the secondary black is only shared between yoko and kittan. idk where im going with this, but its really Good
