i don’t know where else to ask this, but how on earth does on get a diagnosis?? i don’t like self-diagnosing (for myself, it’s not my business if other people do) but i think that it is possible that i am neurodivergent.

is there an age i have to be? is there a test or something?? do i tell them what i think i might have or do they just tell me??? please help 🙏

(also, if there’s a confession blog or an ask blog related to this, i’d appreciate that too!)

#i've been diagnosed w/ ADHD professionally...! so i can speak to this a little!#diagnosis itself: in order to diagnose neurodiversity they have to test/evaluate you to eliminate all other possible causes #there is a testing portion (series of puzzles) as well as a self/peer-reported evaluation (survey filled out by you + guardian)#testing portion: in the case of my ADHD the tests were mostly puzzles/brain teasers! they were kinda fun!!#evaluation: the evaluation is a survey full of questions that you rate on a agree/disagree scale!#<- questions for me were things like ''i have trouble waiting for my turn in conversations'' and such!#ur responses to the testing portion + written evaluation are weighed against a set of ''normative'' answers (DSM5) to come to conclusion #i don't know exactly how the process of SCHEDULING a diagnostic test goes. but it's not cheap!#i believe you will need recomendation from a guardian or therapist/psychiatrist (<- don't quote me here)#professional diagnosis is privileged and it is not accessible to everyone. it is not the be-all-end-all!#<- if any of this is inaccurate or not broadly applicable please lemme know and i will correct! :)#it was a long time ago tho so details are muddy. on account of the ADHD . and all LMFAOO
