GOD okay they said something and it just set me off.

they dont see these characters as CHARACTERS with depth. therefor they dont see the character depth theyve accidentally created, ergo when they write something with fucked up implications, theyre genuinely blindsided because THEY DONT CARE.

they dont even realize they wrote penny to continuously have her mental and body autonomy be taken from her from all sides that culminates with her being fundamentally changed without her consent and then killing herself.

they already did it once in the first two episodes where ruby steps in and takes control of a phonecall between her and ironwood, taking away pennys ability for her to choose for herself, making penny DOUBT herself.

and they literally thought it was a funny joke when pietro takes away pennys bodily autonomy by taking control of her body to do work that apparently penny would be incapable of doing.

like they dont even SEE THE PATTERN THEY WROTE. they think its funny and silly and random bits of a scene becayse this show is meant to be watched in the form of gifs by fans or 1-2 minute clips posted to twitter, and not as a show meant to be watched with a close eye.

you, as a writer, should REVEL in putting your characters through situations. you should ALWAYS find some sort of joy and intrigue and depth in your writing. you should not feel SCARED to write your own characters. and if you do, YOU DONT HAVE TO WRITE THE FUCKING STORY

like... why is may marigold characterized to be the angry aggressive mean person. like regardless of her right and validity to hate her family (that are seemingly the only transphobic people in the world for some reason in this society that supposedly values individual creativity and uniqueness) you still made the choice to have her, the first trans character, to state that she doesnt care if people die. she spends her entire time on screen being aggressive towards are hyperfemme characters in their skirts and dresses. *I* understand that there are masc transwomen and androgynous transwomen and there isnt a RIGHT way to be trans but did may marigold have to be the one of all the happy huntresses to act that way? why could she not have been characterized like fiona, who is happy and proud and FEMININE

not to mention you have this equally aggressive character in johanna, one of the darkest speaking characters to date and butch as hell, contrasted against robyn "we gave her a male model" hill, as if thats not weird in of itself like yall are NEVER beating the sexual dimorphism in ur characters allegations!!

thats not even touching on the absolute snorefest their Uniforms are-- have i mentioned how much i fucking HATE the designs in this show-- and the absolute failure to actually pay homage to robin hood or idk make the fucking happy huntresses matter?? what a waste of fucking time

genuinely did we need the renora bullshit pseudobreakup in v8. like why could we not have that exact same storyline, down to one of them questioning if theyre even worth anything without the other person and said other person still working through anger and frustration they have for the way things are going, with BUMBLEBY

think about it. theres clear communication to the audience that theyre both interested in each other and struggle to exist with each other and without each other. blake has lived her entire life in service to anothers wants for her; her parents, the fang, adam, the team, sun, and now yang. shes never had the chance to know how SHE handles things on her own, and she feels broken and stressed and like shes holding the team back; that shes worthless without yang guiding her and fighting for her. and yang is still struggling with her mom kinda being proven more and more right, and with how quickly everything is spiraling out of control and shes ANGRY and FRUSTRATED that nothing is working out and shes taking it out on everyone around her.

and it sets up bumbleby in a more direct way other than the whispers and hints and will-they-wont-they. its an undoubtedly romantic subarc for them that still ties into the story in a believable way, doesnt take screen time away from the mains to focus on side characters, actually fits with their pre-established issues and characteristics, and leads rather neatly into the ever after arc of yangs anger seemingly getting the best of her first with a presumed death and now her team's entrapment and then with her arm being removed; giving her sort of a come to god awakening realization that even her dad couldnt provide. and then blake is in the fairy tale land of her dreams, separated from her problems and responsibilities and she can be who she really is, emboldened into a confession that culminates in a kiss

what the show WANTS me to think is that in this moment nora is struggling with her identity so severely that in just about 10 minutes from now she is willing to self harm to point of extreme scarring due to how low her self-esteem is.

what the show is showing me currently is nora being a grade-A silly goose. look, audience, laugh and giggle about nora sending weiss through the tube in a comedic way (dont think about how dangerous that is and how it could have potentially been fatal if the show decided to be consistent) and then being playfully scolded as shes animated in a frame to frame anime way isnt it so funny and charming to see these two be silly???? PLEASE forget this when ten minutes (from the characters pov) shes gonna try and kill herself

i really dont like these writers using the concept of "power levels" when talking about why cinder is afraid of the hound.

like... that implies that the hound is more powerful than a maiden you idiot. this isnt a goddamn fighting game. what you mean to say is the use of power dynamics, implying that regardless of physical or actual power, the hound has status in some form above cinder, whether it be cinders fear tipping the scales or some other more concrete thing.

really though kerry starts this entire first episode off talking about he doesnt like writing and doesnt feel confident and thats like. terrible?? but anyways instead of talking through their thought processes for why characters do what they do and how characters get from point A to B, theyre talking about how the mole man is gus sorola and also how literally every scene so far has given them trouble or they didnt feel confident with. so thats great!!!
