Valley’s main source of income for her entire adult life has been to find a man with more money than sense and convince him to marry her. It was very easy to do; even though most of the men treated her terribly, she got to divorce them and take half their money in the end, so it evened out.  The fifth husband, though, was where everything went wrong. She sought him out because he was a recent lottery winner. She figured he’d be dumb and financially irresponsible and in need of a woman to shower with gifts. She charmed him easily, and he fell in love with her quickly, and everything was going according to plan until she realized that she was in love, too. This had never happened to her before - falling in love was strange and unknown territory, and it ruined the entire plan. She was preparing to quit, just cut and run, because how was she supposed to take money from a man she loved? …But then he proposed. And it was beautiful, and perfect, and he was beautiful and perfect, and she said yes. Of course he found out. They were married for four and a half years in which Valley was genuinely happy for the first time in her life, but eventually he found out what her original plan had been, and how many times she’d been married before, and that she’d lied about her family… and everything fell apart. They divorced, so that part went according to plan. But she didn’t take a dime from him. And she’s still heartbroken to this day.
