Part of my valentine's day collab!
When Hyunjin told you the truth about what he really was you were shocked to say the least. It took you some time and some pondering to accept his nature and to not instinctively be afraid of him. The thought of breaking up with him did cross your mind but the way he behaved was not dangerous, in fact he cherished and protected life. The love you felt for him was way too powerful to ignore and when you went back to him, he welcomed you like you never left, with open arms.
Having a vampire boyfriend had clearly its downfalls; he was an undead creature and to survive he needed to take life from others. It was a bloody life, literally. But it also had its perks. Hyunjin had lived thousands of years, had hundreds of lovers and knew his emotions and what he wanted. That sureness was what attracted humans the most, the confidence he exuded was intoxicating. It was also what pulled you in at first, that confidence, and what made you feel safe now as months had passed and you were well into your relationship.
Another perk was the money. He was loaded because he didn’t need to eat nor drink nor do most things that humans spent money on. It would be a lie to say that you didn’t like being spoiled. And spoil you he did,he always bought you the finest dresses and jewelry and offered you the most delicious food.
That’s why when a box arrived at your house on valentine's day with a simple “wear this tonight “ note, you weren’t surprised, nor were you surprised when he parked his car in front of one of the most expensive restaurants in town.
He had booked a private room for you two, “only the best for you my love” he said and then the chef had dropped your food off and left. You were alone.
The food was amazing, everything melted in your mouth and the different flavors were paired so well together that a little gasp escaped your mouth. Hyunjin chuckled at your reaction. He wasn’t eating, he had told you once that human food all tasted bland to him after he was turned, but he had a glass of wine in his hand that he sipped lazily.
You devoured the meal under Hyunjin’s attentive gaze.
“It was great, baby. Thank you,” you looked at him with shiny eyes. Your boyfriend simply grasped your hand and started to gently drag his thumb along your smooth skin.
“How about some dessert, my love? We could split it,” he asked with a sultry voice. Your brows furrowed in confusion.
“You don’t like human food.”
“You are right, my love, but there is one dessert that I particularly love.”
You gasped in excitement,  it was the first time you heard of Hyunjin liking human food.
“Then we should order it,” you looked around for a waiter to no avail.
“There is no need, my love, it’s here already,” he smiled at you wickedly.
In a matter of seconds the plates were on the floor and you were propped on the table.
“Hyunjin, the plates,” you whimpered as you felt his fingers drag along your thighs, left bare when your  dress rode up.
The vampire’s cold fingers creeped up your thighs and reached your hips.
“No panties? Naughty girl,” he purred in your ear.
“It’s your valentine’s present, do you like it?” you gasped as he kissed and licked at your neck.
“I love it, my love, I need to reward you for this fantastic present.”
Hyunjin gently pushed you to lay your back on the table, his fingers slowly pried your legs open and his eyes fixed on your already wet cunt.
“Baby,” you squirmed, trying to close your legs.
“You have the prettiest pussy, my love,” he moaned at the sight of you.
His tongue delved between your legs, little moans and whimpers could be heard both from you and him. His long fingers massaged your thighs firmly. He lapped and sucked at your swollen clit, sending waves of pleasure up and down your spine.
“Baby, I feel empty,” you whined. Hyunjin hummed, the vibrations making you see stars. His pointer finger pushed against your little hole. Your pussy swallowed his fingers greedily.
Your back arched off the table, Hyunjin always made you see stars.
“Baby, can I drink? Just a little,” he begged.
“Please Hyunjin, bite me.”
You felt his tongue leave your clit just to be replaced by his thumb. He rubbed at your little bundle of nerves mercilessly while his fingers scissored inside of you, you wouldn’t have been able to last long if he kept that up. His sharp teeth delicately nipped the skin of your thigh and then sinked in, at the same time his thumb pressed more into your clit and started rubbing with more vigor.
Your boyfriend let out a little moan at the taste of your blood, but it only lasted a moment as he parted from you a second later.
His mouth swiftly got back to his place between your legs. His fingers bent and pushed against that sweet sweet spot inside you, his mouth sucked harshly at your pussy.
The knot inside your stomach snapped and you saw white. The pleasure overwhelmed your senses.
“Sweet as always.”

It was another day and as more time passed by, spending it only in your room, the more the boredom creeped up on you. Even the books you took with you from the library started to get boring, words on pages blending together and creating just a bunch of nonsense. The delicious food turned as bland as your world. The known unpleasant feelings started to show and not even the beautiful house could not keep you away from embracing them. You haven’t seen Hyunjin after the dinner and in some way it bothered you. Loneliness, feeling you knew all too well, quickly joined the party and now it felt way stronger, even deeper. You didn’t even realized that his presence was effecting you in some way…
More like his absence. You however knew better than let your intrusive thoughts win. It is so wrong to want his attention, him. It was so wrong that it felt good…right. You don’t know if he truly was a bad person, maybe it’s just your own head playing tricks on you. Or maybe it was just instinct, maybe it was keeping you safe from him. He is a predator and you were his chosen type of prey after all. He told you that he wouldn’t hurt you but you both know that in some way or another he already did. You weren’t in the wrong to think like this.
You are just careful around him, because you still fear him in some way. Even if you get to know him, will you ever not be afraid? You knew what power he holds and that scares you. He could snap your neck by a blink of an eye.
But…wasn’t that also so exciting?
Hyunjin is so strong, a creature created from the darkness. A vampire that walks with an aura so menacing but also so alluring. It makes you want to have just a little taste of it and before you would know it, you would be already drowning in it. And it would taste even better because his deepest desire.
You really should sort out your feelings. You wished for Mia right now. You missed her, even if it were just days but being ripped away from her like that — you didn’t like it. You choose to stay, you have to remember that.
As you were gazing through the closed windows, you wondered if you could go there. You needed some fresh air and the slightly open window in the bathroom wasn’t enough anymore. After you went to the library the door to your bedroom was mysteriously left unlocked, maybe he knows that you won’t try to run away again. For one you are sure that you wouldn’t be able to, even if you tried your hardest and second of all you don’t really want to….but maybe a walk outside wouldn’t hurt anyone.
To your surprise you found a long, warm coat for you in the closet and also some boots. Every time you had opened it, you always found new things for you. It was endless and you couldn’t help yourself from going over the multiple boxes of shoes. He really does have a taste but being alive for God knows how long, it should come naturally.
It felt wrong going out of your room like this or was it just in your head? You weren’t really a prisoner but still everyone was so careful around — with you. You weren’t that sure which way lead to the back of this place but you were definitely familiar with which way was the main entrance. You calmly made your way to the big staircase and you momentarily stopped, gripping the railing with your hand. You glance into the dark hallway just few steps away from you, you haven’t been there before. There is still so much for you to explore but your lungs really call for the fresh air you promised yourself.
As you made your way down, you noticed that you weren’t alone at all to your surprise. The house looked like it was finally waking up. Two guards were standing at each side of the main door, dressed neatly, bodies pin straight and eyes hard, it made a lump form in your throat. Maybe it’s not going to be so easy.
They didn’t spare you a glance first, even if you now stood right in front of them and you were a little thankful for that. You clear your throat, clasping your hands before you. “Ehm — hello, may I go outside?” Even by clearing your throat, you still sounded like a hurt kitten. ‘Even my voice is not on your side.’
Finally they take a glance at you briefly, before giving each other looks that you couldn’t quite place. You stood there for a while, swinging on your feet slightly. The one on your right with fair hair and looking a little older than you sighed. You weren’t so sure about his age, after all you feel like this house only reeks of the undead but this man didn’t look like it. He doesn’t have the aura around him, the different eyes or anything. He looked like you, human. His company however didn’t. He was more like your age, tall and skinny with dark curly hair and light eyes which for a second reminded you of him. This was interesting. Were there many like you here?
The older man step out, unblocking the view of the door. “I will accompany you, miss.” He said. At that excitement pumped through your veins, finally feeling some kind of relievement in these past days.
You shake your hand, waving him of, making your way to the door. “You don’t have to.”
Before you could wrap your hand around the handle, he put his hand on it, again blocking the entry with his body. You look up at him at that. “I will accompany you, miss.” He said slowly, not that sternly but letting you know that you didn’t have a choice.
“Okay.” You replied. The prices you have to pay to just get a whiff of fresh air…
The other man step aside as well, probably to not get hit with a stream of light that might shine through the now open door. You are curious about what is and what is not true about these creatures but you can tell for sure that they did not like the sun. It wasn’t that sunny outside however but you could smell the warm spring peaking around the color. The sky was still grey, maybe it was because of where you are, middle of the woods and cut from any other people that weren’t residents of this house. But is it really a house? It looked like a mansion, mixed with cathedral, you couldn’t quite place it. At least you now had time to fully analyze it.
The man walked few feet behind you and you find yourself not minding it that much, maybe because he was like you. Did he knew about who — what he was working for or was he compelled? That question ran through your head while you walk around the building, however you didn’t ask. It was none of your business but you hope that they did not keep him, like a alive blood bag…
Tracing your fingers over one of the statues, you wondered again where this marvelous place was located or more like where you were right now. You remind yourself that they had the power to do everything and more, you almost scoffed how easy it must be for them to live. The nicer weather even made the bushes bloom, you remembered that they were empty just days ago but now red roses peaked out from them.
You touched one of the roses softly, it wouldn’t propably hurt anyone to pick one up but you still glance back at your company that watched you silently the whole time. “Can I have one?” He raised his eyebrow, looking confused to why you would ask permission for that but still nodded nevertheless.
You snap the stem then, careful not to cut your finger because that definitely wouldn’t end well if you did. Twirling it between your fingers, you decided to go around, to the direction where you would look out of your window. Just as you wanted to cut the corner you suddenly appeared somewhere else.
The smell hit your nose, just as well the noises of the animals in the stables. Your mouth opened slightly. The stables were right at the edge of the mansion, so there was no way for you to ever guess to be meet with horses. You thought that vampires enjoyed more of dead company than anything. Glancing back momentarily at the guard, seeing that he doesn’t have anything against you to you going there, you pick the end of your long coat and step inside.
The heads of the horses peak out at you and you immediately went to pet each and every one of them, still careful because there wasn’t certitude that they would like you but to your surprise they did. The second your hand touch the soft skin of their neck, it seemed that almost a heavy weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Petting an animal really does help with nerves. As you passed through them, giving them each enough pets for them and for you to be satisfied, you came across a one horse that had its back to you. It probably could sense your presence, turning to finally walk up to you and have a look and you gasp softly at the beautiful white color and the black spot at it’s back.
Your lips after so long lift softly at the corners as it leaned into your open hand. You really don’t want to pick and choose favorites but this one surely speak out to you and it definitely liked you the most so far out of everyone. The stables were big, bigger than you expected, this place sure has it’s secrets and surprises.
A loud noise startled you, hand jumping away from the neighing horse to whip your head to the direction. There at one of the stalls stood a man, leaning on the wood, looking you over and you wondered if he’s been there the whole time. Your body stiffened at his dark eyes and matching black hair.
“H-Hello.” You greeted, unsure, looking back your company that to your surprise kept his distance, standing at the entrance to the stables. Looking back to meet the eyes of the lean, tall man, you don’t receive any answer. He looked like one of those statues in the gardens, the aura and his unraising chest giving you the answer about who — what this man truly is.
The horse you were just petting nudge the back of your head, making you jump before your focus was back on the still silent vampire who was still sizing you up. You cleared your throat, straightening your back, suddenly feeling insecure under his gaze. “I am–“ Before you could finish introducing yourself he beat you to it.
“I know who you are.” He said.
“Oh…”
A small smirk appears on his face at your response. “My brother can’t shut his mouth about you.”
‘Really’ You thought. You weren’t so sure what to say to that so you kept quiet. The silence however made you feel uncomfortable, turning around to continue at your petting of the horse. As you do that you could feel him getting closer, you couldn’t hear his footsteps but the burning stare at the back of your head gave him away. You turned back to him, his gaze hard but not looking so unwelcoming, maybe it was just his natural expression and also he was much closer to you that you thought. Basically right next to you
“I’m sorry for asking this but…” You begin. “–are you all…following me?” The question was answered by silence, his face unmoving. “I feel like you are…”
He hummed almost like in thought, his own attention falling to the animal before you two. “Just keeping an eye on you, like everyone.” The vampire answered. ‘What does he mean by everyone?’ Your eyes briefly flicker to the guard.
“Hyunjin likes his sleep…” He continued, making you snap out of your thoughts to look at him as he nodded his head to the direction of the horse. “You ride?”
You shook your head widely, still slightly stuck at his statement. “Oh n-no, but I for sure always wanted to try.” You careased the soft skin of the horse, smiling at it’s noises of contentment.
The vampire watch you in silence, petting the happy animal. The news of your existence shocked everyone, it was such a crazy theory that even he didn’t know what to think. He, like everyone else didn’t want to give Hyunjin the satisfaction that maybe he was right about you. The fact that this animal, your so called soulmate’s untenable horse let you pet him so freely was for sure a little significant. All eight of them had their own look at you at some point, peaking from behind corners in curiosity. Their brother was so mesmerized by you that they just had to have a look themselves. They however didn’t expect you to be like this — look like this. Such a beautiful soul but also so sad, wide eyed like you finally opened your eyes after years of living. Walking amongst the living but so close to the dead. Still you looked and smelled so sweet, like a flower, maybe you were just tormented, lost soul like them. Maybe you are more enchanting than you think…
The black haired man startles you as he suddenly opened the gate to let the horse out. “What are doing?” You asked in wonder. The question only made him roll his eyes in annoyance. He was only doing this for him. Maybe if you saw kindest in others, you could finally start seeing it in him.
You watched the vampire as he put the saddle on the horse. “We are going for a ride.” He stated casually, making you choke on your spit. Because of the gate now being open you could fully see how magnificent this animal is and it made you nervous to even approach it now.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
He again rolls his eyes. If this bordered him so much, why was he even doing it then? Your body froze slightly as he suddenly made his way up to you, so quickly that you didn’t even have time to react. One second you were on the ground and now you were being picked up by your waist like you weighed nothing. A small gasp leaves you. “Wait! Wait, I don’t even know your name…”
“Seungmin.” He answered simply, while helping you up on the horse’s back and if you weren’t so focused on balancing yourself you would’ve seen the small amused smile.
The vampire walked with you in his arms, before helping you to get fully seated. “Wait! Aren’t you not supposed to be able to go outside.” You stated, clutching the leather of the saddle tightly as the animal moves under your weight.
A sigh, almost like a laugh comes through his nose at your words. “I appreciate your concern but however the sun can’t harm me from here.” You opened your mouth in realization.
You were know seated on the horse, body so rigid that now you were the one looking like a statue. The vampire still had his arms stretched out, like you were going to fall at any second into them but you were basically frozen at your spot. The animal moved a little, making you grip the saddle even tighter.
“Do you want to go down?” Your company asked softly. You didn’t say anything because you simply didn’t know the answer but as seconds passed by you started to not mind your position. Maybe the whiplash from how quickly you were put so high up was wearing out. “Or do you fancy a walk around the castle?”
Your head snapped to his direction. “Can I?” You asked softly.
“What do you think.”
You sighed through your nose, body not so tense anymore. “I would love to.” You really would.
His lips formed into a small smirk and not because of your words but from the annoyed sigh coming from inside the house that only he was able to hear. His hand then wrapped around the reins, making the horse move from it’s spot, you immediately tensing up again. But after some few steps as you walked your way to the direction of the guard who you almost forgot about, you found the hang of it.
“Accompany her, make sure she doesn’t get hurt on my brother’s behalf and sanity.” Said Seungmin and you couldn’t miss the difference of the tone of his voice nor the way he looked into the man’s eyes.
The guard nodded, blinking away rapidly and grabbing the reins to the horse. “Yes, sir.”
Seungmin turned to you, even if you had the higher ground, you couldn’t possible share the same authority as him. “For my well being I won’t be the one to give you the tour.” ‘Oh? So direct sunlight was the enemy.’ Your eyes then fell on the two man again.
“Just around the forest.”
“Yes, sir.”
You felt a little bad for this unknown man but there was nothing to do. You simply don’t have the power to even have a say about who or who not should be compelled. The way Seungmin now was looking at you, made you think that he could read your thoughts. This intense glare probably came with every vampire though.
You smiled briefly at him. “Thank you, Seungmin.”
He waved you off, looking into the distance. “I did this for myself because I can’t tolerate my brother’s whining any longer.”
“Huh…” You frowned because you couldn’t imagine him doing that, eyes traveling back again at the vampire who stood under you.
“You made a choice to stay.” He stated. “So at least try to enjoy it and stop your own whining.”
“Excuse me?” Flies out your mouth because you had nothing other than that to say at the moment but he just ignored your question, turning around to make his way back inside, exactly as the sun appeared on the exact spot he stood second ago.
“Goodbye miss Y/N.”
‘Vampires are going to be the death of you.’
────
It was a cold night, so cold that even Hyunjin shivered. Though was it really the breeze, coming from behind the closed door that made goosebumps appear on his skin, perhaps it was the unsettling feeling bubbling inside his chest, ready to burst at any moment. He stood behind the closed door to your bedroom, silently getting over the words inside his head. His thoughts were so loud that he didn’t even have time to listen. Hyunjin listened to the sound of your beating heart every second, since you’ve been here, even the many walls separating you apart couldn’t safe you from his ears. The thumbing soothes his soul, like a lullaby but now the sound makes his ears ring. The sound…so close yet so far.
He wanted you to know that yours made his own beat again. There’s no way for him to express his emotions throughout words. He tried plenty of different ways to show his devotion to you but you dodged every one of them like a bullet. Did you even know that every second without you made him mad? It made his skin crawl, itching, burning and fangs hurting and wanting nothing more than to pierce the soft skin of your neck and make you his. Hyunjin wanted to mark you so bad that he had to bite his own lips to ease the temptation, while imagining they were yours instead.
The vampire didn’t want to say this but your rejections were so confusing to him. He knew how and what he could evoke in humans, he was the creature that trilled on the seduction and the pleasure after all. You however didn’t return it. Or did you? He would like to say that he could see in the depths of the soul that people try so desperately to keep hidden and you weren’t really good at hiding yours. Your eyes gave you away every time he would look into them. The desire, the desperation they held, the wanting and longing to be finally seen. ‘Why won’t you let me in, Y/N?’ Let him in and he promises to ravish every corner of your heart, every piece of your untouched skin and lips…
Hyunjin has to contain himself a little but how when you were the reason and also the answer to his suffering and redemption?
He finally found the courage to knock on the door. The sound echoed through the old mansion, like the creaking wood under his feet and yet he didn’t hear anything from the other side. He waited a little bit for an answer but every moment made his suffering even worse. Hyunjin knew you were in there…so he let himself in. He hopes you won’t be angry with him.
His eyes traveled over the room. From the unmade bed, to the multiple books on one of the nightstands. They stopped at the open window to the balcony, the very reason of the cold seeping inside the room. The strong wind made the heavy curtains float but the smell of your sweet scent didn’t immediately hit his nose, like he expected. Sense of panic washed over him, making him take quick steps to the balcony. ‘Have you ran away, jumping from the balcony and running for freedom through the forest? What if you were injured?’
Just as quickly as the panic had reached him, it flew away through the wind as a gasp ringed in the air. He turned around, coming face to face with your shocked expression and he had to slightly sigh in relief, taking in the smell of your skin.
One moment you were enjoying your bath in silence, washing away the smell of the animal you spent your whole day with and then there was a vampire standing inside your bedroom. You didn’t expect him to visit you at all and definitely not so soon after the horrible dinner and also not so late but what seemed like late to you was the beginning of the day for him. Your white nightgown gave you little to no coverage, wrapping your arm around your chest, the man following your action before quickly everting them. “May I ask what are you doing here unannounced?” You spoke up, eyes glancing at how the moonlight casted shadows on his face.
Hyunjin look up at your words, glancing over your figure so quickly that you didn’t even catch it. He had to licked his lips to ease the thirst. ‘God what are you doing to me?’
“I did.” He said. “I knocked but you didn’t answer.”
“Alright.” You said, nodding not really sure what to say to that. You again watched each other in silence for a while. These moments were making you unsure if they made you uncomfortable or…comfortable. His presence doesn’t brother you that much anymore but you still haven’t got used to it.
Pressing your lips together, you walked to your bed, passing by him shifty. He had to take a deep breath as the wind blew your hair away from your neck. You knew exactly what he was doing as there was no need for him to breathe at all, however you tried to ignore it. You climbed into the bed, taking the duvet closer to your chest. It created a small imaginary distance from him, shielding you from his glaring eyes but you knew that if he wanted to he would tear it apart together with you.
You gave him a look of wonder because for what was he exactly here for? The expression made the vampire snapped out of whatever trance he was in. “I came here to talk to you.” Hyunjin answered simply.
You frown. “Talk to me?” You quoted. “About what?”
He gave a weird look, almost like in thought, before he sighed. “Anything…” He walked up at you, stopping just at the end of the bed. “I just want your company.” Hyunjin almost sounded desperate and how he towered over you, it reminded you of something.
How he looked at you that night and how he made you feel. You knew that it was just your imagination, a dream and it didn’t particularly ended well for you but the way he made almost everything look so appealing…His sultry voice and his eyes, lips, hands — your eyes flicker to his rings, wrapped around his long fingers.
Looking up from the dark color of the duvet, you could see that he had moved a little closer to you with just a moment of your unawareness. He leaned his weight on the column of the bed’s canopy, just where your legs were. “Minho said you enjoy reading.”
“Yes.” You said carefully. How can you be surprised?
He hummed at your answer, warmness spreading inside his chest because you shared something in common — and of course he couldn’t forget about your love for animals…
Glancing momentarily at the one book on the nightstand, he could see bookmark peaking out from it. “What book did you picked?”
Biting your lip, you also look at the book before placing your hands in your lap, playing with your fingers. “Would it be bad if I said Dracula?”
Hyunjin laughs, genuine smile on his lips and you couldn’t help yourself but marveling over it. “Interesting, I wonder why the sudden interest in vampires.” There was still the same smile on his face, though now teasing you.
You were so taken back by his reaction that your own lips started to tug at the corners. “Hey, don’t laugh.” You tsked, eyebrows furrowed. “It’s more interesting to why you even have this book in your library.”
“Certainly.” He nodded, still amused.
A sudden big gush of cold air flew from the still open balcony inside the room. It made goosebumps appear on your skin and just as quickly as your reaction to the sudden cold appeared on your body, the man before you took action upon seeing it. “Are you cold? I will close it.” Hyunjin didn’t even give you time to answer, walking to the windows to close it.
Your hungry eyes stared at his back and even from here you could see the muscles underneath the tight shirt. If only he knew that the shivers weren’t only from the cold. The vampire turn around slowly after closing the balcony, looking right at your laying figure. There was so much to say but neither of you knew where to start.
But you however had enough of this killing silence, feeling the way your heart skipped a beat after glancing at him. “I’m sorry but I was just going to bed and —“
“I understand.” He didn’t even look angry nor sad with your words, not like at the dinner. “I will talk to you some other time…”
You nodded again, still being slightly tongue tied. Again watching him walk away from you made you feel empty. Why were there so many mixed feelings? You really don’t know what you want from him…maybe the truth.
Just as walked pass your bed you stopped him with your hand raised. “Wait!” He immediately turned around, almost like waiting for you to say that. “Can I ask you something?” The man in question kept quiet, giving you room to speak.
You also went quiet, basking in the silence. The only noises being the wind banging on the closed windows and you could even hear the frequent dripping of water coming from the bathroom. To your surprise he still kept quiet and unknowingly to you also enjoying this moment. Maybe it was just because he could look at your figure so freely as you were to occupied with your thoughts. You always have to be the one to destroy every pleasant moments like these…
“That night if those men didn’t appear what would you truly do…I know that you already answered but—“
“I am failing to understand…”
Oh, but he did. He knew exactly what you were talking about.
“You were watching me before, syzing me up…” God, what are you doing, you two were doing so good and now you are messing it all up…
Your mouth was open still, both of you waiting for the million dollar question. But you couldn’t immediately form it, the glare he was giving you made you scared to even think about it. He was giving you a warning look but you still said it anyway.
“Were you going to drink my blood?”
A sneer falls over his features and you wondered how this same face could even form a smile minutes ago. “Why are you asking such question?” He tried to warn you to not go further but the damage was already done. Why can’t you leave things in the past? Was it because you were human that you couldn’t let go so easily?
You watch how his knuckles turned white around the column and you were afraid that he might crush it into pieces. What if that was your throat instead? “I just want to know…did you really have no intention of drinking from me?” You can’t be in the wrong for asking this…
“I can’t answer that.” Whispered Hyunjin, head hanging low and praying that you would just let this go for his and your own sake.
“Yes, you can.” You declared slowly, duvet falling over your body as you sit up to get closer to him. Was he shaking?
“No…”
Your scoff rings inside the room next, head shaking at his stubbornness. You both know the answer already but you need to hear it from him. Maybe it could finally make you hate him…He on the other hand had a really hard time to contain himself. You don’t even know that you were playing with fire right now. Someone so afraid yet blindly teasing the snake with a bare foot at the same time.
“Just tell me damn it! Would you kill me if they didn’t showed up?”
“No! I was just—“
“Just what?” The question comes out sharper than you intended.
Finally Hyunjin look at you. Long hair covered his eyes, shielding the vibrant color dancing in them. The silence now didn’t sound the same as before. It was exactly the silence before a storm. You suddenly realized what you had done but it was too late now. You completely turned him around. The way he looked right now, perfectly mirrored the way he had looked at you the very first night you met. “You’re—your blood.” He pulled his hand away from the column and even in the darkness you could see the dents in it from his fingers. “I’ve never smelled someone so delicious as you before.” Closing his eyes, a sigh dangerously close to a growl left him. “And you were just in the perfect position — all alone and oh so mesmerized.” Opening his eyes again, he listened to your loudly beating heart. “If they didn’t come…if you wouldn’t scream for help.” He stopped himself from going further, you both know that this confession is all you need. “I couldn’t kill you after that because it was the first time I have felt bad about my possible victim…and also seeing you in such pain — I couldn’t possibly continue it.”
Your face crunched up, his raw words bringing out the mentioned pain to the surface but you decided to stay strong for a little longer. “So you would’ve just killed your soulmate or whatever you call this and you wouldn’t even know.”
Next, so quickly that you even had time to blink, he was on you. From the end of the bed, he suddenly appeared before you. His body covered yours and you couldn’t do anything but look into his wild eyes. He was so so close, you could feel his breath fanning over your lips as he spoke up. “Be quiet.” He growled, his red eyes glaring into yours and after a long time you felt like fainting from fear again. Was this how his victims felt? Your chest that raised with your every breath, touching briefly his but you were too afraid to move away.
“You’re not listening, I said vampires can sense the bond easily. So I apologize that your fucking warm fresh—“ His tongue trailed over his bottom lip slightly, glancing at the noticeable vein on your neck. “— pulsing blood pumping inside you is in the way, hypnotizing me so much that I wouldn’t even mind sucking every last drop.” He tilts his head at you. “You wouldn’t even mind…would you, Y/N?” His teasing tone was gone just as soon as it appeared and because of his words you didn’t even feel the hand bruising the skin of your leg.
The tears in your eyes couldn’t be contained anymore. “Sorry for not letting go of the past so easily, sorry for not forgetting that I met my so called soulmate the night I was almost raped and then killed by — you…” Spitting out the word, a pathetic whimper comes out next from you and not because of your crying but by the immense pain in your leg. His left hand gripped your right thigh so hard, that you couldn’t even find the will to fix the skirt of your nightgown that was now bunched up at your waist.
Something in him broke at your tears. What did he do? ‘What have I done’, you thought. The irises around his pupils cleared, face falling into shock. You have never seen such a raw emotion from him before. His now blue eyes glance at his hand. He never meant to bring you pain by his touch but the way your skin spilled over his fingers from how much he gripped it, made him sick to his stomach. He withdrew his hand, like you’ve been the one to burn him and when you sob out in relief he thought he will die again just by that godawful noise.
Both of you could see the obvious handprint on your skin, making you grasp the skirt of your nightgown, letting it fall over your exposed legs. “Get out…” You whispered, his eyes as wide as yours. “Get out!” Screaming the words at him, made Hyunjin almost fall to his feet before you and he had no other choice but to follow your orders.
‘What have I done?’, you thought again, swallowing your sobs. Maybe you really don’t deserve to be loved…

A dense smoky fog blankets the ground as you navigate through it, obscuring everything but the silhouette of barren trees in the distance. Their branches reach out like grasping fingers, lending an air of malevolence to the journey. It feels as though every element of the landscape is vying for a piece of your soul.
The vampires, purportedly devoid of soul, remain unaffected by the eerie atmosphere. Jisung, however, betrays his unease by idly rubbing his amulet between his fingers. Though he maintains his stoic facade, a flicker of apprehension glimmers in his eyes as he catches your gaze. His smile is unfamiliar, lacking its usual warmth—it's akin to the polite nod given to a stranger who holds open a door.
This isn't the Jisung you're accustomed to.
Time is running short for Jisung. He's almost resigned to his fate, harboring a faint hope for a swift, painless end once this journey concludes. The prospect of returning home to face the slow decay of his essence over the remaining years weighs on him.
Thoughts of his long-lost fiancée flit through his mind. He's yet to encounter her in his frequent visits to the afterlife, but perhaps he'll spend his eternity seeking her out instead of perpetually evading death.
A tender glance at your stomach reveals his excitement at the thought of becoming an uncle. Even though he likely won't be around to see it happen, he finds comfort in knowing that your child will carry his legacy through their magical bloodline. Someday, they'll cross paths again.
The dark aura emanating from the coyote demon casts a shadow over the group. The silence is difficult to tolerate in its absolute stillness. Wasn't this supposed to be the most dangerous part of the journey? Only a day ago, you were under siege by demons, yet now, on the brink of the final stretch, there's nothing. Certainly, if there were something in the distance, any one of the supernatural creatures on your sides would be able to detect it.
Hyunjin listens to the crunch of twigs under his feet, lost in his thoughts. He ponders his mother's cryptic words, wondering if tonight will mark the loss of one of his brothers. Maybe even you. Hyunjin had grown incredibly fond of you, and you had earned his loyalty by rescuing him.
Hyunjin even entertains the idea that it should be him instead. Many uncertainties plague his mind. Returning to the mortal world has been a jarring experience, and true peace eludes him. Hyunjin wonders if he'll ever find any sort of peace, or if this perpetual unrest is his eternal atonement for past sins.
"Hold on, you see that?" Chan's voice breaks through Hyunjin's runaway train of thought, directing everyone's attention to a sudden clearing that appears before you, seemingly out of nowhere. The forest, dense and forbidding just moments ago, now yields to an expansive open space. The nearby sounds of water reach your ears, and squinting reveals the clearing's boundary—a cliff shrouded in thick fog. The archway formed by the bending trees at the cliff's edge invites them to peer beyond, where the natural sky seems to disappear. The impending sunrise has vanished from view, leaving behind a darkness that blankets the forest in a timeless haze.
"This must be it, I can feel it." Santiago declares, drawing a deep breath as he surveys their surroundings, his senses on high alert despite his formidable power.  He didn't clue anyone else in on it, but he had a strange feeling that they were being followed the last hour of travel. When nobody else made note of it, he attributed it to the twisted curse of this place and let it go.
Is this Abysmora? Or does it lie beyond this mysterious veil of smoke?
You wrap your arms around yourself tightly, a surge of nausea unsettling your stomach.
"What did you say?" Chan's concerned voice breaks through your thoughts as he turns to check on you, his expression puzzled by a sound he thought he heard.
"I didn't say anything," you reply, feeling perplexed. Had your thoughts accidentally slipped out aloud?
"Weird. I could've sworn I heard something," Chan mutters, his brow furrowing in confusion.
"Maybe your mind's playing tricks on you," Jisung suggests, joining the conversation. "I didn't hear anything either."
Chan is still skeptical, approaching you with a frown. He squats down to press his ear against your stomach, and you allow the gesture, gently resting your hand on his head, the weight of the moment heavy amidst the strangeness of the situation. Standing up, he scans the group, finding no confirmation of his earlier perception.
"Nobody else heard it?" he asks, met with shaking heads all around, including yours.
"In Abysmora, believe only half of what you see and nothing you hear," Santiago advises, breaking the tension. "I don't wanna tempt Fate; she can be cynical. We have to pay the Coyote demon before we cross over."  You avoid eye contact as Santiago looks at you again, instead averting your eyes to the coyote demon close to the water. Somehow, your anger has shed it's skin to reveal your fragile hurt. You wonder why you aren't worthy of the truth from him, even now, after all you had accomplished.
The sight of your mysterious guide at the cliff's edge draws your attention like a moth to a flame. It hovers there, a few inches above the ground, an enigmatic presence, its form shrouded in shadow. Despite its lack of eyes, it seems to peer intently at the ground below, as if deciphering some hidden message written in the earth itself. The air around it crackles with an otherworldly energy, adding to its mystique as it stands sentinel at the edge of the abyss.
"I'm sorry, pay him? With what?" Jisung's voice rings with alarm.
"What do you think, my friend?" Santiago responds, unsheathing his knife. "Our life force." With determined steps, he approaches the coyote demon, and the rest of the group follows suit. It remains unfazed, its attention fixed firmly on the ground. You cling tighter to Chan, who slows to let you grip his arm.
With a wave of its bony hand over the water's edge, a makeshift raft emerges from the foamy stream. It appears flimsy, like a discarded piece of construction material, hardly capable of supporting its own weight, let alone the rush of the rapids with you all atop it. Yet, it remains steady, held aloft by the coyote demon's power. Santiago steps forward first, slicing his palm and allowing blood to spill onto the demon's outstretched hand. Every drop is absorbed without a trace, prompting Felix to follow suit, eyeing the demon warily before adding his own sacrifice. Jisung, surprisingly, steps up next, his usually cautious demeanor overshadowed by the gravity of the situation.
Hyunjin's turn comes next, and as you and Chan approach, a sense of dread begins to well up within you. The fear seems to seep from the ground itself, creeping up your legs and constricting your throat.
Chan, hearing something again, looks down at you, his expression troubled. It's a sound he can't quite place, like a whisper in his mind, indecipherable yet unsettling. He blames it on Abysmora's influence, steeling himself against its effects as he watches Hyunjin make his offering.
As you and Chan present your own blood sacrifices, the sting of the cut fades, replaced by a tingling sensation that signifies rapid healing. Chan pulls you close, whispering words of reassurance as he guides you onto the raft. "I think she's helping you," he murmurs, speaking of the unborn child you two share and her mysterious powers. You wish those powers could alleviate the nausea that still lingers, but as if in response to your wish, the sickness vanishes without a trace.
Jisung's voice trembles with a mix of anxiety and bravado as he settles onto the raft. "How sure are we that we’re gonna survive this waterfall drop?" he asks, his words filled with a nervous energy.
Santiago's response cuts through the tension. "You're asking the wrong questions," he declares cryptically.  “I’m still in a mortal body that has never been to Abysmora, about to go over a waterfall, what questions am I supposed to be asking right now?”
Perched on the edge of uncertainty, you suppress a chuckle at Jisung's retort, stealing a glance at Felix, who struggles to conceal his amusement behind clenched lips.
“The toll is paid.”
With a final decree from the coyote demon, the atmosphere shifts. The ethereal guide dissolves into obsidian mist, and in an instant, the raft is swept into the rushing current.
Chan's arms encircle you protectively as you bury your head in his chest. His embrace offers a semblance of security, though beneath the surface, fear lies in wait in his veins. It's not the fear of death that grips him, but the fear of loss—of you, of his brothers, Jisung; of the life he's only just begun to consider worth living.
Chan yearns to utter words of comfort, to quell the storm raging within you.
Casting a sidelong glance toward Hyunjin, he extends a tentative gesture of affection, seeking to bridge the chasm between them. Though initially stiff under the weight of fraternal embrace, Hyunjin gradually yields to Chan's touch.
Across the raft, Felix's gaze meets Chan's in a quiet exchange. But before their unspoken bond can solidify, in an instant, the world tilts on its axis as the raft hurtles over the precipice, plunging into the yawning abyss below.
For a heart-stopping moment, gravity claims dominion, and the sensation of free fall grips you all. The wind whips around you, snatching at your clothes, your hair, as you all hurtle downward into the void.
But just as suddenly as it began, the vertiginous descent comes to a halt. The world around you seems to freeze, time itself holding its breath as the raft settles into the stillness of Abysmora's dark embrace.    "Fucking Hell—" Felix's expletive pierces the air, jolting you from your reverie.
"Jisung, little witch, are you—" He begins to ask, worrying for the mortal passengers.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good. You?" Jisung's voice wavers with the remnants of adrenaline.
"I'm... still here," you manage, your voice a fragile whisper amidst the chaos that surrounds you.
Chan's senses begin getting assaulted by a familiar itch—a primal instinct clawing at the edges of his consciousness.
Surely, he’s not going to turn? Not now? Not like this?
The same inexplicable murmur tugs at Chan's senses once more, this time drawing his attention squarely to your stomach. An involuntary pang of tenderness wells up within him, a protective instinct he struggles to suppress. And for that second, perhaps two, he doesn't feel his monster trying to come up for air. With a will of its own, his gaze flits away, his jaw clenching with the effort to regain control.
‘Abysmora is playing tricks on my mind,’ Chan reminds himself sternly, his thoughts a tumultuous whirlwind of uncertainty. He grapples with the realization that, in this strange realm, he may not be able to shield you and his daughter as he wishes.
But the memory of Amelia, her sacrifice, cuts through the haze of his thoughts like a knife to the heart. He can still feel her absence, a haunting guilt for the price paid for their survival. Chan's arms wrap tightly around himself, his fingers digging into the fabric of his jacket in a desperate attempt to anchor himself in the present, to get out of his own head, to banish the ghosts of the past that threaten to consume him.
The raft creeps languidly through the dense, murky waters, now a deep, suffocating shade of purple that seems to swallow light rather than reflect it. The waters are calm, yet their opacity hints at untold depths and secrets submerged beneath. Small islets punctuate the expanse like broken teeth, each hosting clusters of weathered gravestones that stand as silent keepers of forgotten lives. Some stones are cloaked in a dense mantle of moss, their inscriptions eroded by time, while others lean precariously, half-engulfed by the encroaching, swamp-like embrace of the water.
The air itself seems to congeal around you, infected with a sense of despair and decay.
As the raft drifts aimlessly, a disturbing ambiance pervades, heightened by the mist that clings to every surface, weaving through the air like the breath of the isle itself. This mist carries with it an odor so foul, a blend of rotting flesh, sulfur and damp, decayed wood, that it assaults the senses, a physical manifestation of the corruption that seeps from the very soil of this place.
“Oh God, I- I don’t feel good–” Jisung body convulses slightly as he heaves over the side of the raft, expelling a noxious, black substance—a memory of his earlier possession. The sight is disturbingly out of place against the backdrop of unnatural stillness that surrounds you. He coughs violently, a raw, hacking sound that seems too loud in the oppressive silence, wiping his mouth with a shaky hand, his expression one of revulsion and deep unease.
He speaks, his voice barely above a whisper, but it's clear the very air of Abysmora is anathema to him, a venom to his senses.  “I can’t…I don’t think I can be here very long.”    "I don’t think any of us can…” Felix's voice carries his concern, tasting the bitterness of the venom in his mouth, something he hasn't felt in a long time. Swallowing becomes a chore as the acrid taste spreads, worsening his already noticeable thirst. He keeps his discomfort to himself, knowing his brothers need him now more than ever. Despite the absence of the Full Moon tonight, Abysmora's sky holds no celestial bodies, just an endless void stretching upward into an unseen realm.
“Where’s Santiago?”     The question of Santiago's whereabouts lingers, as you survey the desolate landscape. Memories of the heated argument with him resurface his words cutting deep. Could he have abandoned the group at the gate, his duty fulfilled by merely delivering you to Abysmora? The worry eats at you, the fear that your past conflicts might have jeopardized the journey for everyone, with no guide to navigate the treacherous unknown ahead.
None of you have any experience in Abysmora, a daunting realization. It's a frightening thought, to be on an even playing field with some of the strongest creatures you’ve come to know, and all the while carrying your first child.    In truth, Hyunjin has rejected the idea of forming an alliance with Santiago for some time, ever since he inadvertently overheard the conversation back at Lysandra's. Despite the pressing need to focus on capturing Santiago after the Blood Bloom, time constraints forced the brothers to prioritize other tasks. However, with Santiago's sudden disappearance, urgency seeps into their thoughts, amplifying their concerns.    Finally, the raft nudges against the mainland with a soft, almost imperceptible thud, coming to rest at the edge of a larger isle. Here, the tombs are more imposing, grander in their decay, arranged in a deliberate circle that borders the perimeter.
These larger mausoleums and monuments loom like giants, their shadows casting long, dark fingers across the ground as if to welcome—or warn—any who dare to trespass. It feels even heavier here, if possible, threaded with a history of sorrow and darkness that permeates the very ground upon which you’re about to stand.
"No time to figure it out," Chan declares, rising to his feet, his actions prompting the others to follow suit. Stepping onto the mainland, he extends a hand to assist you ashore. Meanwhile, Hyunjin swiftly rips off and repurposes the hood of his jacket into a makeshift mask, covering Jisung's nose and mouth for protection.    “There you are! Santiago turns the corner of a mausoleum and lays eyes on you.  He seems out of breath, worked up as he shakes his head, catching up with everyone.
And yet, despite his outward appearance of concern, there’s a flicker of something in his eyes that doesn’t quite match his urgency—a subtle shift in demeanor that leaves you feeling uneasy in his presence.  You hadn’t felt this just moments earlier getting on the raft with him.
“How did we get separated?” Santiago asks.
You are the first to answer, unaware of the suspicions of everyone else and just relieved to see another familiar face again.  Though, that nagging doubt gnaws at your mind, whispering of the questions surrounding his sudden reappearance.
You wonder if Abysmora is playing mind tricks on you too?
“No idea, but we’re all here, Jisung’s getting sick, we’ve gotta get the Blood Bloom and get out of here.”  You look around, “But where is it?”    "In there." Santiago's gesture directs your attention to a towering statue of a knight, its sword thrust upward toward the darkened sky. "It's always inside the tomb of the One, the very first of our kind." Santiago approaches the statue, touching it with reverence, in a way that strikes you as odd, because it’s as if he hasn’t seen it before, and Santiago said he had taken prior trips to Abysmora, albeit via other routes.
He must know what the tomb of the “One” looks like? Right?
Muttering under his breath in an unfamiliar tongue, Santiago circles the statue, his intent clear as he seeks a means of entry.
Felix, ever perceptive, senses a subtle shift in Santiago's aura. Vampires as ancient as he can detect things far beyond micro expressions in mortal faces, no matter what’s wearing the skin.  It’s how they can tell when something isn’t exactly human, or when mortals lie. Yet, this time, something feels different. Is Santiago under some form of influence? What drives him to lead them into the depths of this tomb? He hears the spells the archdemon chants but doesn’t recognize the tongue.
"Where did you land?" Felix's inquiry interrupts Santiago's prayer, prompting him to refocus his attention. As you join in the search, kneeling amidst the moist earth, the ground squirms with repulsive creatures disturbed from their slumber by your intrusion.
"Land?" Santiago straightens up, his confusion evident. "I just woke up behind that grave," he gestures toward a nearby tomb. "I have no idea what happened." His explanation is abruptly interrupted by Jisung's retching, the soul of this environment taking its toll on him once more. As Jisung lifts his makeshift mask to expel another bout of black, putrid vomit onto the soil, Santiago's attention remains fixated on unlocking the tomb's secrets.
Hyunjin, growing impatient, voices his concern, stepping back to avoid the splatter onto his shoes with a lifted brow. "Can't you do something about him? We can't exactly conjure."
"It's my bloodline—" Jisung's words are punctuated by another fit of dry heaving. "I can't—my body—"
You spring into action, rushing to Jisung's side with mounting worry. His suffering raises questions about the influence of this place, and you fear for the well-being of his soul.
"Jisung, tell me what to do," you plead, desperation clear in your voice as he struggles for breath. But Jisung, consumed by his own distress, cannot offer guidance. With trembling hands, you place your palm against his stomach, channeling an unfamiliar power in a desperate attempt to alleviate his suffering. As your energy flows into his body, Jisung convulses one last time before finding his breath returning in ragged gasps.
Santiago stays oblivious to the commotion around him, his concentration fixed on the statue, lost in prayer with closed eyes. Meanwhile, Hyunjin's attention wavers as he catches the scent of blood emanating from your ear, a telltale sign of overuse of your conjure. His sudden cough startles you, drawing curious glances from his brothers as he hurriedly wipes his nose, trying to conceal his reaction. The scent reaches Felix next, prompting you to check yourself, and your fingers come away stained with blood. Panic sets in as you hastily wipe your neck with your hoodie sleeve, inadvertently spreading the stain further into the fabric.
You’ve made it so much worse, and you don’t even know it.      "This can't be what I think it is," Chan says as he uncovers something amidst the infested soil. He holds up a fragment that appears to be from a golden beret, the gold melted over one of the encased jewels, evidence of a failed attempt at destruction. "Do you see this or am I imagining things?"    Felix's heart races as he snatches the fragment from his brother's hand, his senses heightened to every sound, every scent around him. "This is it, this is... I have no doubt," he declares, his voice tight with apprehension. He turns to Hyunjin, whose eyes are fixed on the cursed fragment a few feet away. But instead of their usual crystal blue, they shimmer with a bright amber hue, a telltale sign of a loss of control. Hyunjin shuts his eyes tightly, fighting against the onslaught of disturbing images flooding his mind. He feels the creeping sensation of tiny toothed imps devouring his flesh in the depths of Purgatory, a sensation he fights against with every fiber of his being. Is it the curse or is it just him?
Passing the fragment to Chan, Felix approaches Hyunjin; and he gently shakes his younger brother from his trance, their eyes meet, and Felix is struck by the vulnerability in those familiar baby blues, a contrast to the centuries of resilience he's come to expect.
"Brother, what’s—how do you feel?" Felix's voice is soft, a rare tenderness breaking through his usual stoicism. He sees the innocence in Hyunjin once more, a vulnerable human amidst the vast expanse of their immortal existence.
“Afraid, brother,” Hyunjin confesses, his voice laced with raw emotion. He blinks back the bitterness in his eyes, unable to maintain the eye contact with Felix. “I can’t go through this again. I–I can’t, I’ll die, Felix. I’ll die first.”    Felix's voice cuts through the chaos, gentle yet firm, as he addresses his brother. "Hey now," he begins, his words carrying a sense of his own certainty, a vow to himself amidst the uncertainty surrounding them.
"I’ll die before you go through that again."
Hyunjin meets Felix's gaze, feeling a rush of emotions within him. Even that has become foreign after being gone for so long; feeling emotions he'd forgotten the weight of. In that moment of silent connection, he senses the weight of their bond, built over countless centuries of shared trials and unspoken understanding. Despite the shadows of their tumultuous past looming over them, Hyunjin finds safety in the unwavering intensity of Felix's gaze, a silent promise of protection and support. This rediscovered depth in their relationship speaks volumes, highlighting the profound significance they both place on each other's well-being.
━━━━━━━━   The tension in the room is filled with anger and resentment as Chan confronts his younger brother, his voice echoing off the stone walls. Hyunjin's defiance matches his elder sibling's intensity, his eyes ablaze with righteous fury.
"Are you mad, brother?! You're in bloodlust!" Chan's words cut through the air like a whip, each syllable dripping with disbelief and frustration. He can't comprehend Hyunjin's actions, can't fathom the depths of his rage.
"Now you've killed her son?! Amelia's brother?!" Chan's accusation hangs in the air, a damning indictment of Hyunjin's actions.
"Did her mother not take our parents from us first?!" Hyunjin's retort is sharp, laced with bitterness and grief. To him, his actions are justified, a reckoning for the injustices inflicted upon their family.
But Chan's anger simmers, threatening to boil over as he struggles to contain his emotions. With a roar of frustration, he hurls a nearby chair against the wall, the sound of splintering wood punctuating the heated exchange.
"Those were my parents too," Chan's voice is raw with emotion, his eyes flashing with a mix of pain and fury. "Do you not think me furious as well? Do you doubt that I too, want to drink from their hearts and watch them fall to my feet?!"
Hyunjin stands his ground, undeterred by his brother's outburst. He remains unshaken, fueled by a burning desire for justice.
"Yes, Christophe, I do!" Hyunjin's words are a challenge, a testament to his unwavering conviction. "I doubt you want to do anything more than run with your tail between your legs, defending a traitorous witch, the very daughter of the woman who murdered our parents!"
Meanwhile, on the other side of the closed door, Amelia stands frozen, her hand hovering over the doorknob. A cool hand touches her shoulder, and she turns to find Felix by her side. His silent guidance urges her to stay back, to let the brothers work through their grievances without interference.
As they move a few steps away from the door, Amelia embraces him, softly crying into the fabric of his blouse. Felix's thoughts churn with concern. The arguments between his brothers have become more frequent, fueled by Hyunjin's growing impatience and resentment. His thirst for vengeance risks engulfing him, driving them to move twice in the last four months alone.
Felix knows Hyunjin cannot be contained, his actions driven by a primal need for retribution. Yet, despite his own fury towards Amelia's family, he understands the futility of their situation. They are newborn vampires--outnumbered, outmatched, and outsmarted without a plan.
But what troubles Felix the most is Chan's hesitance, his reluctance to act. And as they stand in silence, away from the fight unfolding on the other side of the door, Felix can't shake the feeling that something is amiss, something he can't quite put his finger on…
   ━━━━━━━━
"Santiago," Chan's voice cuts through the tension, his gaze fixed on the archdemon who is still engrossed in his task. With each passing moment, Santiago's words grow more rapid, fueled by a sense of passion that borders on obsession. Chan moves closer, reaching out to get Santiago's attention. "Santiago, hey–"
The statue begins to shift, its movement accompanied by the harsh scraping of rock and the unsettling rumble of the earth beneath their feet. Hissing echoes around you as the creatures in the soil turn aggressive, some leaping into the air with fangs bared. Hyunjin reacts swiftly, his movements a blur as he dispatches several of the creatures with deadly precision.
"Protect this at all costs," Chan's command is clear and direct as he locks eyes with you, a brief flash of amber in his gaze before he blinks it away. He presses the beret fragment into your hand, urging you to keep it safe.
“Come on, hurry!” Santiago hurries down the stairs into the tomb.  You tuck the fragment into your bra and the rest of you have no time to think, and you follow behind, risking the chance that being in the tomb of the very first demon in creation would be safer than being on Abysmora's grounds, exposed.
If there was anything lurking in this strange place, they certainly know they have unwelcome visitors now.    Jisung's condition noticeably improves as the darkness envelops them, the sickness that had plagued him fading into the blackness. Yet, amidst the near pitch-black surroundings, a distant blue glow emanates from a room at the far end of the underground tunnel. Backed by a surge of adrenaline, you act swiftly, your fingers darting like arrows to ignite the sconces along the walls. Each flame catches, casting a blue hue that bathes the chamber in its glow.    As the dim blue glow from the sconces barely penetrates the darkness, Jisung finds himself momentarily awed by your ingenuity. But any sense of accomplishment is swiftly overshadowed by the atmosphere closing in around you. The tomb of the first demon ever to exist feels suffocating, each breath tainted by the heavy, musty scent of centuries past. With each inhale, Jisung's heart flutters nervously.    In an attempt to summon his conjure to navigate the path ahead, Jisung encounters an unexpected resistance, as though an invisible force is constricting his abilities. A dryness creeps into his mouth, he can’t be powerless yet?! How is this possible?! You were able to light the way without hesitation.
"Now what?" You whisper, your voice barely audible over the silence. Turning to seek guidance from Santiago, you find him vanished once more.
"What the–"
"Little witch, we can’t trust him," Felix's voice cuts through the darkness, his hand pulling you closer to the rough stone wall for protection.
"But he said–"
"It doesn’t matter what he’s said," Felix's tone is firm, his words tinged with urgency. "We can’t trust him."
With no other options available, Hyunjin strides ahead, his figure disappearing into the hallway, with Jisung following closely behind. There is no turning back now, no room for hesitation. You’ve come too far to retreat, your only choice is to press onward.  The confines of the tomb seem to be closing in on Chan, the primal instincts of his wolf beginning to overwhelm him. Sensing the impending shift, he knows he must act quickly, not willing to risk losing control in such close quarters, especially with you nearby.
With a determined step backward, Chan starts to unzip his hoodie, preparing for the inevitable transformation. His voice carries a note of urgency as he speaks to Felix, his brother, and you. "Felix, you and little witch go on ahead with the others. I’ll catch up with you soon."
Felix puts his arm around your shoulders and obeys his elder brother’s command.
As Chan's metamorphosis reverberates through the ancient confines of the tomb, each sinewy shift heralds the awakening of primordial forces. A chill snakes down your spine at the power unleashed, but with Felix's presence guiding you onward, there's little room for fear, only purpose.
Stepping into the chamber's heart, you feel a lack of control, like you've stepped into public in the nude. This feeling sticks to you as if you're an insect on fly paper, the discomfort follows you. Your gaze is drawn to the raised platform, where a mummified figure cradles a flower in its desiccated grasp. Against the backdrop of darkness, the bloom's vibrant hues stand in defiance, its petals swirling in an ethereal dance.  On the opposite end, Jisung stands watchful, his focus unwavering as he hovers over the coffin. Bathed in the soft azure glow of the chandelier above, the scene unfolds like a tableau of strange beauty, casting shadows that dance across the chamber's walls.
Your breath catches as you draw near, the allure of the flower irresistible. Its petals, delicate yet sinuous, seem to pulse with a life of their own, their crimson hue a vivid sign of its unearthly vitality. And at the heart, a pool of crimson gleams with luminescence, a symbol of the bloom's power.
"This is it," you murmur, your voice a mere whisper amidst the hallowed silence of the tomb. "The Blood Bloom."
Jisung's brows furrow in disbelief, his head shaking in denial. “The legend I remember said it grows in the soil of Abysmora…”    Despite his hesitance, he leans forward, sensing the same energy that grips you both.
As a sudden stillness envelops the chamber, Jisung's instincts flare, a warning pulsing through his veins. With a sense of alarm, he whirls around, calling out for his missing companions. "Felix? Hyunjin?" His voice echoes off the stone walls, met only by silence.
Your palms grow clammy, fear prickling at the nape of your neck. "What's happening? What's wrong?" you stammer.    "Oh look, you found it!"     Santiago's voice cuts through the tension, his arrival heralded by a sense of impending doom. Panic floods your veins as you instinctively back away, only to be ensnared by a vice-like grip from behind. Your breath catches in your throat, your thoughts racing to the safety of your unborn child, as fear tightens its grip on your heart.
"H-Hyunjin..." The name escapes your lips in a breathless whisper, finally realizing the scent. Your body tenses, every nerve on edge as you struggle to keep your composure.
Before Jisung can react, Felix is upon him, his strength overwhelming as he wrestles the younger man into submission. You look to Santiago, the sight before you twisting your stomach into knots. His head lolls to the side with a sickening crack, a grotesque contortion of flesh and bone. As his eyes roll back into his skull, his skin begins to slough off like molten wax, revealing a smaller, naked figure beneath.
This new form is like something out of a nightmare, its skin slick with a viscous substance that oozes and drips. The creature's features are twisted and deformed, elongated limbs and sharp, angular joints giving it a disturbed appearance. Its eyes, once human, now gleam with a endless black, reflecting the depths of its sinister nature.
As the demon's gaze fixes upon you, a shiver runs down your spine, fear gripping you with icy fingers. As Jisung struggles against Felix's overpowering grip, his frustration mounts with each futile attempt to break free. Heat radiates from his palms, a manifestation of his inner turmoil, but it's as if an invisible barrier stifles his efforts, rendering his conjure useless.
“The audacity only a Han would have, trying to use your conjure here, now don’t you know better? Then again, you want to die, don’t you?” The demon's voice drips with malice, taunting Jisung with cruel words.
Jisung refuses to dignify the demon's words with a response, his jaw clenched tight in defiance. Beneath his poker face, a sort of fear dances in his eyes. The demon's insight and access into his psyche unnerves him, exposing vulnerabilities he'd rather keep hidden.
“I have a name, you know.” The demon's grin widens, revealing a mouth lined with jagged, razor-sharp teeth. “Do you want to know it?”
“Oliver,” you breathe, the name escaping your lips like a curse, triggering a flood of memories from your night terrors that you'd rather forget.  "She's smart, isn't she?" Oliver's voice drips with malicious intent, each word laced with venomous glee. The knowledge that you know his name seems to egg on his perverse joy, a sickening trophy of the power he holds over you, a feeling he rarely gets to feel in his own existence. In the dimly lit chamber, his grin casts twisted shadows across the walls.
As your gaze darts nervously around the room, searching for any sign of escape, the sound of sloshing footsteps draws your attention to another presence lurking in the shadows. With a sickening lurch of your stomach, you realize that you're not alone, the presence of another demon sending a wave of fear over you.
The unnamed demon drags a large and furry form into the chamber, its tortured cries echoing off the walls as it's callously thrown against the unforgiving stone. Your heart sinks in your chest at the sight.
"NO!" Your voice rings out in a desperate plea, the words torn from your throat in a frantic rush. "Hyunjin, let go of me! Stop! This isn't you! That's your brother! Felix! Felix, it's me! Y/N! You're stronger than this! All of you are!" But your cries fall on deaf ears, drowned out by the cruel laughter of the demons that surround you.
"Chan—Chan, please," you plead, your voice barely a whisper amidst the chaos unfolding around you. Exhausted and defeated, you sink to the ground, your body wracked with sobs as despair threatens to eat you alive and spit you back out with no remorse.    "Y/N, stop," Jisung's voice cuts through the noise, his tone firm as he locks eyes with you from across the room. His gaze speaks volumes, silently urging you to quell your desperate pleas. In this moment of peril, communication is reduced to silent exchanges, a shared understanding passing between you both.
With a deep breath, you stifle your cries, recognizing the urgency of the situation. Any hope of escape hinges on maintaining composure, lest you risk losing control of your conjure before it can be wielded as a weapon against your captors.
Exhausted and defeated, you offer no resistance as Hyunjin releases his grip, allowing your body to crumple to the ground. His derisive laughter rings in your ears.    Meanwhile, Oliver's attention drifts to the Blood Bloom, his excitement obvious as he revels in the discovery.     “They really found it, the Blood Bloom!” His voice echoes through the chamber, a frenzied tirade of anticipation as he fixates on the object of his obsession. But his excitement is short-lived, abruptly cut off by a sudden surge of malice directed at the lesser demon.
"What are you waiting for?! Bring the Mistress!" Oliver commands, his impatience boiling over as he demands action. With a hurried nod, the lesser demon scurries away, his footsteps fading into the distance as he disappears into the darkness.
Lying on the dirt-covered brick floor, you succumb to silent tears, the weight of anguish pressing down on you like a leaden blanket. With jittery hands, you crawl forward, the distance between you and the wolf reduced to mere inches. As you nestle your face into the coarse fur of the muzzle, a gentle warmth caresses you, soothing the raw edges of your fractured spirit.
Suddenly, in the darkness, amidst the faint scent of earths and decay, you feel it—a tender brush against your nose, followed by two more delicate licks. Slowly, you open your eyes, greeted by the shimmering gold orbs of the wolf before you. It's a curious sight, this peculiar hue, but within those luminous windows to his soul, you find an unexpected solace—a glimmer of Chan's inherent spirit shining through.    You continue to feign distress, your sobs a desperate symphony masking the turmoil within. Each movement is calculated, every tremor carefully choreographed to draw attention away from your clandestine actions. Your fingers venture into the wolf's mouth, inching closer to the razor-sharp teeth that threaten to sever skin from bone.
As your wrist hovers over the waiting fangs, fear coils in the pit of your stomach, a visceral reminder of the perilous dance you've chosen to partake in. But you steel yourself against the rising tide of panic, a vow echoing in the recesses of your mind.     You'll fight tooth and nail, even if it means staring death in the face, for you know that within the pits of Hell lies the flickering ember of hope.
With a nod of assent, Chan's lip twitches in acknowledgment, a fleeting moment of connection. As he closes his jaws with painstaking care, the taste of blood blooms in his mouth, on his tongue, along his gums. Through gritted teeth, you endure the searing pain.    Jisung's mind races as he formulates a plan to wrest control from the clutches of Oliver. With each passing second, the grip of the demon's influence tightens around the minds of Felix and Hyunjin, reducing them to mere marionettes in this macabre play.
"Felix," Jisung breathes, barely audible in the hushed chamber, "Can you hear me?"
The vice-like hold tightens, and Felix's response echoes through the silence.
"Loud and clear, mate," he replies, the words filled with a predatory glee that reminds Jisung of exactly how different they really are from one another when it comes down to being factory reset to pure instinct.
‘Shit’. A curse punctuates Jisung's thoughts; reaching them in this state seems impossible. Oliver's conjure has rewritten their essence, transforming them into instruments of darkness. To break this unholy connection, the source needs to be severed, and at this moment, Oliver stands as the puppeteer, feeble or not.
As Chan discreetly drinks from you in his wolf form, Jisung's mind churns with frustration, the invisible chains of restraint still boggling him. 'If he has me restrained, there must be a physical block somewhere' he muses, a spark of realization flickering to life amidst the darkness. 'So how is he doing it? Where is it?'
A sweeping glance around the chamber reveals the answer, hidden in plain sight. The talismans, hanging down from the ropes strung along the ceiling, catch Jisung's attention. They're no ordinary charms; they bear the unmistakable markings of Korean origin, Bujeok, but warped and twisted into a perversion of their intended purpose.
These were crafted with him in mind, designed to stifle his magic and render him powerless.
'Bingo'    He knows what he must do to break free from Oliver's grip, to reclaim control and turn the tide of this deadly game.   Jisung's words slice through the air with a cunning edge as he probes for weaknesses in Oliver's facade. "Possessing the minds of vampires is light work, what’d you do, a blood bind of some sort?" he questions, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Oliver's response is swift, a mixture of amusement and hubris. "Well, aren’t you an arrogant little witch?" he retorts, unknowingly stepping right into Jisung's trap. "Demons do more than blood bind to have others do our bidding."
A smirk plays at the corners of Jisung's lips as he goads Oliver further. "I guess you haven’t figured out how to get a Han to do your bidding though, so you had to use these guys," he gestures disdainfully toward the vampire restraining him. "I mean, I get it though, you don’t look capable of doing it yourself."
You listen with bated breath, the cool touch of the earth grounding you while Chan's watchful eyes mirror your own tenacity.
With calculated steps, Oliver descends from the platform, each movement purposeful and deliberate. A glint of steel catches the dim light as he approaches Jisung. As the blade he wields grazes Jisung's cheek, a thin rivulet of blood appears, tracing a crimson path down his face. Oliver steps back, grinning while Felix looms ominously behind Jisung.
In a mocking tone, Oliver scoffs, "Miss Edith couldn't care less about the likes of you."
Despite the threat at his neck, Jisung remains steadfast, his gaze averted from Felix's predatory presence. "You're a bad liar," he counters, a beacon of defiance in the face of imminent danger.
Oliver's smirk fades into a scowl. "I'll have your best friend drain you dry until you're nothing but a lifeless husk."
Jisung's laughter rings out, carrying a hint of madness. “Yeah, but then you’ll have a mighty angry vampire that can conjure on your hands, and how will you handle that? Oh fuck, you can’t--”
“You’ll just piss off your Mistress, and I get the feeling that’s a habit of yours—what was your name again?”    The demon's rage is evident, his fists clenched at his sides as he discards the knife, the sound of its impact echoing through the chamber as it hits the ground. His bluff has been called; a demon under another's command lacks the authority to make unilateral decisions, especially ones as significant as ending the lives of captives. Captives that they’ve taken the time to carefully ward against.
For reasons unknown, they need him alive, at least for the time being.
"You'll regret this," Oliver seethes, his departure swift as he hurries to investigate the delay in the other demon's return, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the chamber.   Hyunjin stands frozen, his gaze vacant, like a puppet abandoned by its puppeteer. Felix, unmoving, maintains his vice-like hold around Jisung, his thoughts seemingly distant despite his physical grasp.
With resolve sparking in your weary eyes, you snatch up the knife, ready to act.
"Little witch, hurry," Jisung urges, his voice barely above a whisper, directing your attention to the talismans hanging from the ceiling. "Cut them down—they're sapping our power."  You swiftly ascend the stone platforms, a strength from an unknown place guiding your every move as you slice through the ropes with the knife. With each talisman that falls, dissipating into wisps of blue smoke, a surge of hope fills the air. Chan, his wolf form a blur, disappears into the darkness, tracking the demons' elusive trail. Your focus wavers momentarily, but Jisung's urgent plea snaps you back to the task at hand.
"No time, keep going!" he insists, spurring you onward. With steady hands, you continue your circuit around the room, severing the final ropes. Jisung, eyes closed in concentration, channels his purifying energy, causing Felix to recoil and collapse, overcome by the searing sensation of his blood boiling under his skin. As Jisung kneels beside the fallen vampire, a grimly determined spirit, unflinching and serious, settles over him.
Frustration tinges his voice as he assesses the situation. “Fuck, they’re in deep.”
You wave your hand in front of Hyunjin’s face but he doesn’t even blink.  “What can we do?”
"Nothing, yet. We've gotta kill that bastard first." Jisung replies, scanning the room for any signs of their next move. Striding over to the mummified corpse, he delivers a swift kick to the wooden coffin, and you wince, splintering it open. With practiced efficiency, he breaks off a jagged piece of wood, handing it to you before keeping one for himself.
“But if we have to protect ourselves,” He gestures to the two vampires, “This is the only chance we’ve got.”
You gaze at the stake in your hand, horror coursing through you at the thought of wielding it against those who have become your kin, your protectors.
"Listen," Jisung's voice breaks through your turmoil, his tone resolute as he senses your hesitation. “If their souls get away from us again, I can’t help to get ‘em back.  Death is a mercy, but it’s our last resort.”
You agree, though as you look at your friends, lost and locked inside of themselves, you wonder if you’ll follow through with such a promise if the moment were to ever present itself.    Retreating toward the coffin, your gaze fixates on the flower delicately held within its grasp. Without much thought, or perhaps with thought you aren't conscious of, you extend your hand, fingers brushing against the petals, taking it into your grasp. Half-expecting the tomb to quake and crumble around you, like a scene ripped from the pages of a thrilling adventure, you're startled when the chamber remains still.
"In my dream they wanted to stop us from getting this, I don't know why," you assert, locking eyes with Jisung, an unquenchable fire burning bright within you as you secure the flower in your pocket. "The odds are now in our favor."
You dart down the corridor, Jisung hot on your heels, fueled by your sudden fearlessness. As the cavern splits into two diverging paths, you and Jisung find yourselves back to back, each scanning for a sign of which route to take.
Jisung's senses, honed by experience, detect a pulsating energy emanating from the right tunnel. He purposefully directs you away from it, "Go Left!" he calls out to you, his voice echoing down the corridor like a solemn decree. Without a moment's hesitation, you veer down the opposite path, placing your trust in his keen intuition as he forges ahead toward the heart of the mysterious power. In the glow of his flickering flames, Jisung continues on, his back pressed against the unyielding stone walls, each step plunging him deeper, and he can feel himself descending, guided by the flames in his palm, taxing his magick as a necessary means of sight...  You creep, as light as you can on your feet down the hall, and though you don’t sense much, you feel like you’re moving towards something, someone important. A thought crosses you, and you recognize the feeling from before, when you could sense Chan's presence.  You're just not sure how the honing mechanism works in your body. You come to a stop, straining your ears in the silence to hear anything.  How could a place so evil be so silent? Maybe that was a part of its sinister nature, you’re in a constant state of paranoia, questioning everything you encounter.
That’s when you hear it.    A cacophony reaches your ears—a wet, slurping noise interspersed with sharp cracks and snaps. Despite the unease creeping over you, you find yourself moving forward anyway, your feet carrying you around the corner even as your instincts scream at you to flee.
As you round the bend, the sounds abruptly cease, leaving a heavy silence in their wake. With shaky hands, you summon a burst of flame, its flickering light casting shadows across the room. You shield your eyes from the sudden brightness, snapping your fingers again to maintain control over the fire with an extended palm, its glow offering a glimpse of the scene before you.
With a sigh of relief, you realize it is Chan, still in his wolf form, perched atop the body beneath him, methodically tearing away its limbs. Despite the gruesome scene before you, you don't recoil in horror. Instead, a strange understanding dawns upon you—a glimpse into Chan's cryptic intentions. He's systematically dismembering the body.   Catapulted into action, you scour the area until your eyes land on a discarded plank embedded with rusted nails. You don't carry natural nightvision like he does. With a snap of your fingers, flames dance along its surface, casting a flickering glow that barely illuminates the chamber. You hope, to be able to talk about how much you've improved with Jisung once you're all out of this mess. To thank him for everything's he's done for you to get this far with your conjure. Armed with a knife of strangely high quality, the one Oliver had dropped earlier, you set to work, slicing through the demon's flesh with surprising ease. It’s as if its appendages were made of gelatinous cartilage rather than solid muscle.
With a final, resolute stroke, you lock gazes with Chan, something primitive passing between you two. Taking a deep breath, you shift your focus to the grisly sight before you: the half-mauled neck upon which Chan still labors. You issue a directive, "The leg," you command, indicating the limb lying closest to you. You direct Chan to the leg on your side, trading places to continue the task. You hack away at the remaining flesh of the neck until the head is brutally separated from its body. As the final blow lands, the detached leg collapses to the ground with a sickening thud as the wolf by your side finishes alongside you.
Chan nudges your wrist, smearing your hoodie sleeve with the dark ichor of the fallen demon. Bewildered, you meet his gaze. "What's wrong?"
The massive black wolf pads over to the plank, its end nears the final embers of its burn. With a sagacious air, he settles down, resting his head upon his paws. You nod in silent comprehension, scrambling to your feet and surveying the room for flammable materials. Hastily, you gather anything combustible, stacking them in the center of the chamber—a rickety wooden stool, dusty tomes whose contents held no value, and any other debris within reach.
Chan prowls around the scattered body parts, a low growl rumbling from deep within his chest, and you begin to deduce the demon isn’t gone yet.  "Let's go," you command, stepping backward as Chan joins you at the entrance. With a steady focus, you close your eyes, channeling the power within you. In an explosion of heat and light, flames engulf the chamber, forming a barrier that forces you to retreat, the intensity making you stumble and fall to the ground. Though the flames lick at your skin, they do not scorch, leaving you breathless as you gaze at your hands.    How did you just do that?!    A sharp itch on your forearm draws your attention, prompting you to hastily roll up your sleeve. To your astonishment, you find a series of canine tooth marks left by Chan's earlier bite, unhealed, the crescent pattern etched into your flesh. Frustration bubbles within you as you scratch at the irritated skin, rising to your feet just as the flames begin to dwindle.
"Fuck, Chan, what is this?" you demand, only to find Jisung's figure illuminated by the dying embers, his eyes glinting an unnatural complete black in the dim light.  He grins wickedly as he snatches your wrist tightly, looking down at the bite. “I don’t know, looks pretty bad though.”  Before you can react, he painfully twists your wrist, and darkness consumes you, consciousness slipping away as you collapse into oblivion.

🧛‍♂️ VAMPIRE! STRAY KIDS SERIES
Chris // Changbin // Jisung // Hyunjin // Seungmin // Minho // Felix
Tumblr media
If anyone ever were to ask Hyunjin, he’d say he would have never changed his job for anything else in the world; not only he loved working as a baker in his small village, but also he loved working during the night.
There was something different – something clean and pure, about the scent he could breathe while going to work, not to mention how he loved the small town’s alleyways being somehow deserted, the only exceptions were the guards patrolling the streets during their night shift.
Hyunjin’s routine was rather simple: he’d go to work at sunset, bake every kind of delicious kind of bread and sweets, and then wait for Felix to arrive to the bakery in the early morning in order to open the shop. He didn’t have many friends, but the few he had were extremely important to him – strangely enough they were all vampires; he would make sure to see them every now and then but most importantly, he often took some time to pet almost every stray cat he met on his way.
That’s who Hyunjin was: a pure and innocent soul who loved tranquillity and hated every kind of unexpected. At least, until you came around.
The bitter cold of an autumn night seemed to cut your cheeks as you strode through the narrow alleyways of the unfamiliar village; you briefly cursed to yourself, since you’ve never pushed yourself too far in order to hunt. Your left forearm was tightly clutched against your chest as you waited for the wound to close, glad that vampires could heal way much faster than humans did; honestly, if only you were safe and sound at home and you weren’t chased by a group of soldiers, the wound would have healed definitely faster.
A low mumbling suddenly caught your attention; it was definitely too close to you to avoid, and you wondered if it was another soldier that was humming to song while waiting for you, happy that you were finally trapped.
Ready to figure out if you had to fight once again for your life, you decided to face your fate and abruptly turned left, stopping in your tracks: a tall boy with blonde hair and still sleepy eyes was opening the backdoor of a shop, his head turned towards you and quickly studying your frame with an alerted expression.
The fact that his eyes were staring at the wound on your forearm definitely came in hand; with big and hurried steps, you closed the distance between the two of you, grabbing the hem of his dark green cape and asking him to help you with the most suffering voice you could manage. The boy was startled by the sound of the soldier’s footsteps approaching, and driven by a completely unknown reason, let you in the shop.
Despite the pleasant scent of yeast and bread invaded your nostrils as soon as the door closed, you couldn’t bring yourself to step away from it. Few minutes passed, and it was as if you could feel the tension that the blonde boy was radiating from his body.
«Could you please relax?» you whispered, turning your head left before placing once again your ear against the door.
«Sorry.» you heard him mumble, and without knowing the reason, your lips curved in the hint of a smile you kept for yourself. Luckily enough, the guards quickly gave up on their task to look for you, and soon enough, the small bakery’s kitchen was illuminated by the dim light of oil lamps.
«Who are you?» the boy’s voice caught you off guard since, not only he was extremely pretty, but you were not afraid to admit you could have listened to his voice for hours; you introduced yourself – action which he immediately reciprocated, but he kept suspiciously staring at you.
Hyunjin crossed his arms and walked towards you with quick steps, only to lean towards your face in a studying manner; now that he finally could see, not only he was surprised about your beauty, but also incredibly anxious about your glimmering red eyes.
«A vampire?» you watched as Hyunjin’s eyebrows furrowed in an incredulous expression which eventually turned into exasperations; you tilted your head, wondering what was so disturbing in your presence to make him react like that.
Vampires were not only a common presence to which everyone had become accustomed, but they were also an important resource in everyday life: thanks to the fact that vampires had much more strength than human beings, they could take care of the most strenuous aspects of the work of each day. Humans and vampires learned how to live together, but sadly, sometimes it happened for some vampires to lose control and therefore, the cases of homicide due blood thirst weren’t rare.
«Why were you being chased?» Hyunjin asked while sitting on a stool, and you couldn’t help but found funny how restless he looked.
«I fed from someone, and then everyone went crazy.» you shrugged, honestly unaware about who you fed from; you only knew she was a girl with black hair and fairly tasty blood.
«Who was it?» Hyunjin asked, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
«I don’t know,» you shook your head, «she lived in a yellow house near the church.» you explained, hoping that the house’s colour would suffice for Hyunjin to identify who she was.
Instinctively, your brows furrowed as you heard Hyunjin’s heart pace dramatically quicken; the colour gradually disappeared from his face, before his eyes burned into yours.
“Yellow house”? Of course he knew who you had fed from, since there was only one yellow house in the whole village.
«The major’s daughter.» Hyunjin mumbled before abruptly standing up, «you can’t stay here.»
«What?» you shrieked incredulous as his hand gently but firmly pushed on your back in order to make you move you from the doorway; it was pretty clear that Hyunjin wanted to push you out and never see you again, «But, Hyunjin, I’m hurt!» you tried to play the victim, since you didn’t know whether it was already safe for you to walk back home.
«Oh, you’re hurt.» Hyunjin’s panic momentarily dissolved from his eyes, before gently grabbing your forearm and studying your wound, «You can stay here, but just for tonight.» you immediately nodded, not knowing where did the sudden change of behaviour come from, but being incredibly grateful for it.
Hyunjin treated the wound on your forearm – which eventually closed few minutes later after he had finished, and after meticulously washing the blood away from his hands, he started working, occasionally glancing at the window and talking to you the less as possible.
Tumblr media
«Hyunjin!» you gently called out while repeatedly knocking on the bakery’s back door, aware that he was already inside; you frantically glanced around, hoping that he’d open the door before the guards catched up on you.
Hyunjin opened the wooden door few seconds later, a wet cloth hanging from his hands and some flour smeared on his cheekbones; he didn’t have time to question what happened, since you quickly walked in the shop and closed the door behind yourself.
«Please, don’t tell me you did it again.» Hyunjin sighed, throwing the wet cloth on his shoulder while re-adjusting his apron; you found it impossible to hold his gaze, and so you frantically went from studying the pattern of the wooden floor, to studying the countless pots and jars placed on the shelves.
Hyunjin simply sighed, his eyes continuously glancing at the window before pointing you towards the stool right next to his work counter. A month had gone by incredibly quickly, and you found yourself asking for Hyunjin’s protection for at least five times; despite the fact that anytime you came around he was incredibly anxious, he quickly got used to your presence, getting flustered every now and then since you basically never talked but kept studying him as he worked.
Sometimes, Hyunjin thought that you were pondering whether eat him as well or not, but the truth was that to you, he was incredibly handsome; there was something about Hyunjin’s expression when he was focused about what he was doing – sometimes so focused that he forgot about his surroundings, that you found incredibly alluring.
Hyunjin’s blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail, delicately framing his features, but occasionally, some strands of hair would fall into his face and therefore, he was forced to wash his hands and tie his hair all over again; you’d be lying if you didn’t think about tying up his hair and running your fingers through it, but anytime you caught yourself having those kind of thoughts, you’d be irremediably ashamed of yourself for fantasizing about something like that in the first place.
On top of all, Hyunjin had the habit to scratch his face every now and then, meaning that he’d dirty his features with flour, making him look even cuter.
“Get a hold of yourself,” you thought, “you’ve seen him five times.” A gentle cough snapped you out of your thoughts, and you caught Hyunjin staring at you with a puzzled expression and a hint of a blush on his cheeks.
«I said, why do you keep attacking people?» his attention was caught once again by the dough he was preparing.
«I’m a new born,» you shrugged, «I still have to learn how to control myself.» you admitted, hoping that Hyunjin wouldn’t ask any further question; you saw him furrowing his eyebrows in confusion, and you folded your hands on your lap, aware that he was about to ask something you didn’t really want to talk about, despite the fact that you were being happy about the fact that he was trying to make actual conversation.
«Shouldn’t the person who turned you teach you about that?» he scoffed; Hyunjin didn’t know everything about vampires but, thanks to his friends, he knew enough things to make him sleep at night.
Generally, when a vampire turns a human into a vampire, said person should meticulously follow him, teaching him how to properly feed but also teaching him how to quench his blood thirst, preventing him from going insane.
As your eyes met, you completely forgot what both you wanted to say, and the fact that you were reluctant about talking about your past. Hyunjin was looking directly at you, his gaze steady and his expression somehow gentler than you were used to; the glimmering light of the oil lamps seemed to halo him, and he seemed dazzling, like sunshine, or perhaps ethereal moonshine.
«I think…» you trailed off, unsure about the right words to use in order not to scare him, «I think, the original purpose wasn’t turning me into a vampire.» you heard Hyunjin’s heart quickened again and you guess he immediately understood what you were trying to say; if it weren’t for the fact that his face paled once again, you would have found the fact that he instinctively ran a hand through his blonde hair and irremediably dirtying it with flour incredibly cute.
«I’m sorry,» he said, his eyes shut close as if he could go back in time and prevent himself to ask that question; before you could answer, his head snapped towards you, «Can you eat human food?» his vampires friends ate it even if it wasn’t particularly tasty, but still he didn’t want to say it out loud.
When Hyunjin saw your unsure nod, he told you to wait, before disappearing behind the wooden curtain that connected the kitchen to the front part of the bakery. You complied to his request, your eyes gradually widening in confusion as you couldn’t understand the source of the noises happening from the other side of the wall; he seemed like he was cooking something, but what could it be?
Few minutes later, the sweet scent of chocolate filled the air, mixing itself with the scent of fresh baked bread and cakes; Hyunjin re-appeared few seconds later holding two fuming cups of hot chocolate, placing both of them in front of you on his work counter.
«It’s to make up for my stupid question,» Hyunjin admitted, placing another stool in front of you, playing with the handle of his cup, «I probably shouldn’t have asked.» the wild rhythm of Hyunjin’s heart was matched by yours, and you definitely didn’t miss the soft blush on his cheeks – partially hidden by some uneven stripes of flour.
Hesitantly, you shook your head, mumbling that it was fine, that you wouldn’t have talked about it if you didn’t feel like it, «Plus, you’ve been helping me this whole time.» you sighed, occasionally sipping to the hot chocolate Hyunjin made, preventing your mind to wander too much about the times where you were still a human and therefore, you could enjoy human’s food.
Hyunjin had finished all the commissions for the day, and instead of going home, he decided to actually try to get to know you better; now that he knew you were a new born, he realized that he would have started to see you pretty often and much to his surprise, he didn’t dread the thought as he did at the beginning.
Of course, he still didn’t like people showing up unexpectedly and therefore ruining his adored routine, but you didn’t have much of a choice, and the fact that you decided to see both him and his bakery as “your safe place”, somehow made him happy.
Both you and Hyunjin talked a lot; by the time the morning lights started to painting the sky, you learned everything about him and Felix – the other boy running the shop, and something about his friends as well.
Therefore, Hyunjin learned a lot about you as well: not only you were a Duchess living in the Capital which loved to spend her times in flower fields away from her house, you were also obsessed by sweet things. Whether they were cakes or biscuits, you loved the flavour they left on your tongue and consequentially improving your mood; Hyunjin was listening to you with a gentle smile, exclaiming a «you’re in the right place, then!» while laughing, as he heard about your preferences towards any kind of sweet food.
«I’ll see what I can do, next time you’ll come back.» Hyunjin shrugged, collecting the now empty cups; despite the fact that you immediately told him that you didn’t want to bother him, he easily silenced you saying that «it’s not a big deal.»
When Hyunjin closed the shop, you said your goodbyes and you walked towards the inn you were staying in, while he immediately walked all the way to his vampires friends mansions, eager to tell them about you but also asking for advice.
Tumblr media
«What do you mean, “help me”?» you questioned Hyunjin with a dumbfound expression; he simply smiled, uncrossing his arms from his chest and nodding towards his work counter.
As you made your way towards it, Hyunjin grabbed one of his spare aprons from your stool, making you wonder whether he had been thinking about it for a while.
Not only Hyunjin’s apron was a little too big for you, but you were forced to admit that you didn’t have the faintest idea about what you were supposed to do; you stood next to Hyunjin, meticulously imitating his movements and following what he told you, trying to finally learn how to make cookies.
Much to your shame, Hyunjin kept chuckling every now and then at your ministrations, noticing how you looked both incredibly cute but also incredibly out of place; Hyunjin knew that nobles never worked a single day in their life – let alone cook, but still, he thought it could have been fun.
However, Hyunjin couldn’t prevent the soft laughter from escaping his lips at your frustrated expression as you were trying to cut the shortcrust pastry while holding the cookie cutter in reverse.
«Wait, you’re doing it wrong,» Hyunjin’s gentle voice distracted you, and before you realized, he was standing behind you. His chest was pressed against your back, and his arms circled your frame, his left hand was placed on the counter, and his right one was on top of yours, turning the cookie cutter in the opposite direction, «try doing it now.» despite Hyunjin told you to do that, his hands moved yours in order to cut three flower-shaped cookies, showing you why you couldn’t do it.
It was as if you had completely lost control of your body, Hyunjin’s touch was gentle and yet, it was more than enough to set your soul on fire. During the two months you had seen each other, neither of you had ever tried to touch each other, and judging by Hyunjin’s quick heartbeat, he must have realized the same.
It was as if you could picture his embarrassed face as you closed your eyes; with a shy smile which he couldn’t see, you whispered to try again right before he could apologize. This time, Hyunjin’s large hand was simply placed above yours as you moved the cookie cutter as he showed you earlier, happy that you managed to make it.
«I did it! When are we going to cook them?» you asked, turning around in his arms without thinking too much about what you were doing; it was only when your noses brushed against Hyunjin’s chin that you realized how close you actually were. Hyunjin’s hands were still on the counter, meaning that he was caging you, and his eyes were cautiously studying your movements.
Despite how close you were, neither of you didn’t do anything to move away from each other; it was almost as if you could read in Hyunjin’s eyes the same emotions you were feeling and the same questions you were asking yourself.
Is it okay for me to kiss him? Will I put him in danger if I let myself fall for him? Would it be okay for him? Will he ever return my blooming feelings?
As Hyunjin carefully inched closer to you and you closed the remaining space between your lips; the two of you realized that you had found your answer.
As you expected, Hyunjin’s kisses were slow and gentle, his lips tasted just like the caramel pearls he kept eating every once and then; his hands remained placed on he counter while yours were shyly placed on his apron. Hyunjin tilted his head to deepen the kiss, action which you immediately mirrored, smiling in the kiss as you heard his soft content sigh in the moment your tongues met; his large hand cupped your jaw, and the natural warmth of his skin was enough to send shivers down your spine.
Despite the kiss lasted for few solid minutes; as Hyunjin placed his forehead against yours and stared at you with a soft smile, you couldn’t help but think that you wanted to kiss him all night long.
«We should probably bake those cookies,» Hyunjin said with a smile, and the fact that his voice was a little bit raspier definitely didn’t go unnoticed, «or Felix is going to get really angry.»
When morning came, you walked back to the inn with a content smile and your lips hovering above your lips in the attempt to make the feeling of Hyunjin’s touch linger on your skin.
Tumblr media
After the two of you kissed, things between you completely changed. For a start, Hyunjin told you about his vampires friends, saying that they were more than willing to help you completely adapt to your new life without you risking to get executed because you couldn’t control your thirst.
Also, you noticed how for Hyunjin had became incredibly difficult to keep his hands off of you; the two of you never did anything beside kiss, but still, that was how the both of you occasionally spent your time after Hyunjin had finished cooking all his commissions for the day.
Hyunjin loved to kiss you while gently making you walk backwards until your back was pressed against the shelves, but he also loved to kiss you as you were comfortably sitting on his – completely cleaned, work counter and he was standing between your legs.
Hyunjin yawned loudly, snapping you out of your thoughts; blonde hair fell in front of him as he was kneading, and since he couldn’t tie it back up because his hands were covered in flour, he just settled for blowing some air against it or move his head; you chuckled to yourself, before eventually walking up to him and collecting the leather string he used as a hair tie which had fell on the floor.
«Lean back a bit, you’re too tall,» you joked, and Hyunjin complied; he widened his legs so that he could be smaller, and gently tilted his head back while balancing himself on the counter. With gentle fingers, you adjusted Hyunjin’s hair into a ponytail, running your fingers through the blonde locks more than necessary, enjoying Hyunjin’s content sigh at your gentle touch.
Hyunjin’s unexpected moan at your unintentional tug as you kept fixing the string had definitely caught you off guard, and your heart started picking up pace at the hypothesis that maybe, he liked his hair to be pulled during other situations as well.
Honestly, it didn’t take you too much to find out that Hyunjin indeed loved for his hair to be pulled during sex; anytime Hyunjin’s hair tie loosened, you’d offer yourself to tie his hair for him, purposely giving his hair a soft tug once or twice as you were tying up the leather string. To be honest, you knew you were riling him up; his kisses would grow more passionate than the gentle and loving kisses you were used to, and you couldn’t find any reason to complain. One night, as Hyunjin had finished with his commissions, he had backed you up and hoisted you on the counter, asking for permission with shy but bold touches; as you were kissing, you guided Hyunjin’s left hand under your skirt while you gently pulled on his hair, and that was all it took for Hyunjin to lose any inhibitions he could have had. Hyunjin was a passionate lover, and it didn’t take too long for him to make you come; you’ve haven’t had intimate relationship with anyone for years, and it was almost as if Hyunjin knew exactly what to do or where to touch in order to make you go crazy with pleasure. You obviously couldn’t know, but it was the same for him.
Despite you were seated on a wooden counter, you still balanced yourself with one arm draped around Hyunjin’s shoulders, while the other alternated between running on his toned chest or scratching his back while trying not to be too rough. Needless to say, Hyunjin’s hips stuttered anytime you gave his hair an occasional tug, his head thrown back and luscious moans escaping his lips as his hands tightened around your waist.
As Hyunjin’s hand sneaked under your thigh in order to grip on the counter – and giving you the sensation that he was sinking deeper inside you, a sudden sensation spreaded from your abdomen all over your body, and Hyunjin was quick to capture your soft moan with his lips, finding it a sound too sweet for anyone else to hear.  Hyunjin came few thrusts later, and as your sweaty forehead were pressed together, you giggled together, your hearts beating fast and your breath ragged.
«So,» Hyunjin started, sighing before quickly pecking your lips, «you really thought I didn’t realize you pulled on my hair on purpose?»
Tumblr media
Four months later, you were sitting in the expensive living room of Hyunjin’s friends; you were comfortably sitting on an armchair, while he settled for sitting on its armrest, your left shoulder touching his back somehow was comforting you as you had to repeat what had happened to you.
If you were to be honest, you already knew that Hyunjin’s friends would have been as gentle as him, but still, you were surprised about how welcoming they were being.
«It happened the same to some of us,» Chris had explained, while comfortably sitting on the couch in front of you, «beside having Hyunjin, you also have us, now.»
«You’re not alone in this, anymore!» one of them – Jeongin, eagerly said, and you felt yourself almost tearing up due to the genuine affection you were feeling in that very moment. It was something strange and unusual, and something you had never felt, not even during you human life.
«I guess you’re hungry,» Chris said again with a soft smile, satisfied at your nod, «The first lesson will be: feed on Hyunjin.»
«What?!» both you and Hyunjin exclaimed at the same time with incredulous faces.
«Nothing will happen,» Seungmin chimed in, walking from the bookshelf he was leaning against to the couch, «you’ll naturally stop yourself. If you don’t, there are seven vampires in the room to come to your babyboy’s rescue.» he said with a malicious smile, ignoring Hyunjin muttering that he “was not a babyboy.”
Eventually, you stared with horrified eyes as Hyunjin diligently folded his sleeve until it rested around his elbow, placing his forearm in front of you.
«Don’t tell me you trust me with this?» you questioned him, since you didn’t trust yourself in the first place.
«You’ve been to the shop countless times by now,» Hyunjin explained with a shrug, «you could have easily killed me long ago.» something in his eyes made you nod; you briefly made eye contact with Chris which gave you an exhortative smile, before closing your eyes and sinking your teeth into Hyunjin’s forearm.
Needless to say, his blood was delicious; strangely enough, it somehow seemed to quench your blood thirst even faster than anyone else had. As you savoured his blood in your mouth, Seungmin words came into your mind, making you realize that not only you felt already full, but it was probably because you were feeding from someone you were sharing a deep bond with.
As cliché as it was, you and Hyunjin were in love, and not only he was willingly offering his blood to you, but in the back on your mind, the fear of hurting him was preventing yourself from giving in to the blood thirst. Repeatedly licking over Hyunjin’s wound, you waited for it to close before you felt a hand affectionately ruffling on your hair.
«Are you okay?» you quietly mumbled to Hyunjin, which was gently smiling at you; he nodded immediately, his eyes looking at you with an enamoured expression.
«Thank you.» you finally said to Chris and the others, which gently smiled at you.
«Don’t mention it,» Chris shrugged, «we’re family.»
Tumblr media
As much as you wanted to be the one who turned Hyunjin, you didn’t trust yourself enough to do that and so, when Hyunjin finally decided that he wanted to share his eternity with you, Chris had been the one that turned him; you politely waited for Hyunjin to wake up, holding his hand or gently playing with his hair in the attempt to make him feel loved despite you knew that while you were turning you couldn’t feel anything.
«I can’t believe caramel pearls won’t be that tasty anymore.» Hyunjin’s said as soon as his transformation has came to an end; he was staring at the ceiling, and you chuckled, sitting on the floor with your chin resting on the palm of your hand, your elbow leaning on the soft blankets.
«And here I thought you’d say you loved me.» you joked, waiting for him to look back at you. As Hyunjin’s glimmering red eyes met yours, you felt butterflies soar in your stomach at how incredibly handsome he was.
«Of course I love you.» Hyunjin pouted, effortlessly making you get on the bed by pulling on your wrist.
«More than caramel pearls?» you teased, your head resting on his chest.
«More than caramel pearls.» Hyunjin chuckled, hugging you close to him.

The black vehicle you were in rolled to a stop in front of a lofty mansion surrounded by trees that had shed their leaves, their scraggly branches looking like bony, needlelike fingers reaching out in different directions. The whole place had such an eerie feel to it you wondered if the driver had taken you to the wrong place by accident. You were scheduled to have dinner at a mansion with some businessmen, but you weren't quite sure this was the right one.
"It looks abandoned." You analyzed aloud after stepping out of the vehicle. "I don't think anyone lives here."
You turned around only to find that the car had pulled away and was already at the end of the driveway. Your mouth dropped open in disbelief. Seeing as you had no way to get back, you decided to at least knock on the door and see if anyone happened to occupy the home.
The place looked uninhabited and dilapidated. The wooden siding appeared weathered and worn and vines had wound their way up the front of the home. The boards on the porch groaned under your feet as you advanced towards to the front door, giving it a few knocks.
You waited for an answer, but didn't get one, so you knocked once more. Still no answer.
Why would you be scheduled to have dinner at an abandoned house? Could there have been a mistake?
You were fully preparing to walk away when the door slowly creaked open, a middle-aged man sticking his head out.
"Oh. Hello, I'm-"
"Y/n L/n." The man cut you off. "They've been expecting you. Please, come in."
The man, who you assume was a butler, pulled open the door, allowing you to walk in. He then led you into a dining room.
Like the rest of the house, the dining area was dimly lit. The table was draped in a red cloth and decorated with black candles, pearls and vases. Something that caught your attention was that there were only three chairs at the table; one on either end and one sitting in the middle.
"Please, have a seat." The butler pulled out a chair for you.
You thanked him, taking your place at the table. Your eyes wandered around the room, taking in the gothic-style decor, noting how some items looked straight out of the 1800s.
Two men emerged from the entryway and into the dining room. One was tall, slim, and had long, dark hair. The other had a strong build, a slim waist, and blonde hair.
Their appearances threw you off, as they both looked young. You wondered if these two were the people you were supposed to be meeting with. You watched as they each took a seat at either end of the table, the blonde on your left, the dark-haired one on your right.
"Hello. You must be Y/n." The taller one smiled softly.
"Yes." You nodded. "I am."
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Hyunjin."
"We've been looking forward to this meeting." The blonde spoke up, his Australian accent prominent. "I'm Chan."
"It's a pleasure to meet you both."
"It certainly is." Hyunjin grinned.
"Let's get this dinner started, shall we? How about we bring in the appetizers?" Chan suggested.
"That sounds good."
He snapped his fingers and called for who you assume was the butler. Sure enough, the older man who answered the door minutes earlier came in with a rolling cart carrying three plates and two bottles of alcohol.
"Serve the lady first." Chan instructed.
The food and beverage cart came to a stop beside you and a plate was placed before you.
"Wine or champagne?" The butler questioned.
"Champagne please."
"Excellent choice, madam." He grabbed one of the bottles, popping the cork before pouring some into a glass.
He made his way around the table and served the two men of the house before exiting the room leaving the three of you alone.
The atmosphere was uncomfortably awkward. Just who were these guys? They were quite young and appeared to be in their twenties you assumed, maybe they're the business owner's sons. They had to be. That would be the only reasonable explanation.
Picking up your fork, you took a bite of the food that was served, letting out a quiet hum of satisfaction.
"So, Y/n, your family has done a lot for the business." Chan spoke up, cutting through the deafening silence that was hanging in the air.
"Thank you."
"We're both wondering, what are your future plans?"
"Well, I'm not too sure at the moment. My father has been giving me small tasks for the business, but I'm not so sure I want to take over."
"That's understandable." Chan nodded. "It's nice to have options."
"What about marriage?" Hyunjin inquired.
You were caught off guard by his question.
"Marriage?" You choked out.
You missed the way Chan glared at Hyunjin from across the table.
"Of course. An heiress to a large family business should be looking for a husband, no?" He raised a brow, taking a sip of wine.
"Well, as I said, I'm not sure if I want to take over the business." You decided to gloss over the marriage part, hoping he would drop it.
"And marriage?" He inquired. "A young woman your age should be thinking about settling down."
"That's a bit old-fashioned, is it not?" You countered.
"It is." Chan cut in rather firmly. "It's very old-fashioned."
Hyunjin glared sharply at the blonde across the table, the eldest's eyes narrowing in warning.
"You have a beautiful home." You spoke up, hoping to steer the subject away from marriage as well as loosen some of the tension that seemed to be looming in the air. "It's really nice. Though, it seems like a lot of space for just two people."
"Yes, it often feels empty here." Chan commented somberly. "All this space and no one to share it with."
"Perhaps I could give you a tour." Hyunjin offered with a charming grin, but Chan knew he had an ulterior motive.
"Perhaps after dinner we can both give you a tour." He cut in.
Hyunjin gripped the base of his wine glass in agitation, his patience being tested and pushed to its limits by his older counterpart.
"I would love that." You smiled, completely oblivious to what was going on.
"I should have said this earlier, but you look ravishing." Chan complimented, trying to keep the atmosphere amicable. "That color suits you very well."
"Oh." You brushed your hair back. "Thank you."
Chan swallowed at the sight of your exposed neck, his fingers curling as he gripped his knee in an attempt to ground himself. Hyunjin seemed to be in the same boat, looking as if he could pounce at any moment. Of course, Chan wouldn't let that happen.
"I apologize for being so awkward." You spoke up, shifting in your seat. "I wasn't expecting to be having dinner with the sons of the company owners."
Chan let out a short chuckle of amusement.
"We are the owners, love." Hyunjin answered.
Your eyes winded as a wave of embarrassment hit you. "Oh. I'm so sorry. You're both so young, I just assumed-"
"It's a common misconception." Chan cut in calmly. "It's no problem at all."
Though slightly embarrassed, Chan made you feel better, his tone holding no malice whatsoever. Reaching for your flute of champagne, you took a sip, your mind running through topics to talk about in hopes to fill the eerie silence that seemed to keep settling over the vast dining room.
Hyunjin's dark eyes were trained on you as you took a sipped your champagne, his tongue darting out to lick his lips as he imagined what it would be like to sink his fangs into your flesh, his thirst starting to override his conscience.
Chan leered across the table at his housemate with a stern expression on his face, silently telling the younger vampire to behave. They'd discussed this prior to the meeting, yet Hyunjin was going against everything they talked about. He could see the temptation on the younger man's face and the way he was slowly breaking down, succumbing to his thirst.
Hyunjin glanced over as Chan shook his head.
"Don't even think about it." He whispered under his breath just loud enough for his friend to hear.
Hyunjin merely rolled his eyes. He was always bad at following rules and even worse at controlling his thirst.
Chan observed his younger comrade, watching the way his jaw clenched, his nails digging into the wood of the dining table, Chan could hear the timber cracking under the inhuman grip of Hyunjin.
The eldest cleared his throat, grabbing the attention of the dark-haired man and momentarily snapping him out of whatever daze he was falling into.
As dinner progressed, there was little talk of the business and what the future held for it.
Once dessert was served, Hyunjin's self-control was hanging by a thread and Chan was very much aware of that, you on the other hand were oblivious to quite literally everything. That's why when Hyunjin's brown irises started swirling with that all too familiar red hue that Chan decided to do something.
"Excuse me for a moment." Chan slowly pushed himself up from the table, giving a tight smile. "Hyunjin, may I speak to you alone for a moment?"
"What ever for?"
Chan's hand came down hard on Hyunjin's shoulder, clutching the fabric of his jacket.
"I think you know."
The younger male pushed himself up from the table reluctantly following his housemate out of the dining room, leaving you alone to wonder what sort of disagreement the two might be having. The entire time you'd been there the atmosphere was less than amicable, a tenseness accompanying the false friendliness.
"I have to have her." Hyunjin all but growled under his breath once the two males were well out of earshot.
"You can't. We talked about this beforehand."
"I just want a taste." He took a step forward only to be stopped by Chan's body.
"I won't let you."
"You want her too." He pointed out. "I can see it on your face."
Chan's jaw clenched in response. "That may be true, but unlike you I know how to control myself."
"Come on, Chan. I know you can smell her from here."
Hyunjin was provoking him and Chan knew that, but it wouldn't work.
"I'm going back out there and you can't stop me. So don't get in my way."
At that, Chan grabbed Hyunjin's collar, roughly jerking him forward
"I'm much stronger than you. I could easily take you. Remember that." Chan reminded lowly in Hyunjin's ear, though it sounded more like a threat.
The youngest's tongue poked the inside of his cheek in agitation as his eyes glared sharply at Chan who was really testing his patience.
"I said don't get in my way." He hissed, baring his fangs.
"Very well, then. You know what has to happen." Chan told him, his voice eerily calm but almost patronizing at the same time.
"Don't you dare."
"It's for her safety."
Chan stood over Hyunjin, chains in his hands, watching as his friend struggled under the restraints that had been wrapped around him.
"I hate you." Hyunjin spat.
Chan wasn't phased in the slightest by the harsh words spilling from the younger's lips only tightening the chains in response.
Hyunjin writhed under the shackles, his fangs bared as he tried to free himself.
"Better not let Y/n see you like this." Chan taunted with a smirk. "She'll think you're a monster."
"I'm gonna kill you."
"I'd like to see you try."
Hyunjin jerked on the chains once more, trying to sit up, only to be held back. He let out a low growl, annoyed at his confinement.
"This for your own good, Hyunjin. I can't have you hurting our guest."
"You just want her all to yourself."
"Maybe, but I also don't want her drained dry by you. She came here for a business dinner, not to be our dinner."
With Hyunjin confined to the bed and the threat now taken care of, Chan slipped out of the room and returned to the dining area where you sat.
"Sorry about that."
"Where's Hyunjin?"
Chan let out a regretful sigh. "There's something I need to tell you about him."
"What is it?"
"He's very dangerous. You shouldn't be around him."
"He is?" You asked, softly.
"Yes. You'd better stay close to me."
"Where is he?"
"Don't worry about that. He's not nearby, which is all that matters." He told you. "Now, how about that tour? I would love to show you around."
You momentarily wondered what was so dangerous about Hyunjin and considered excusing yourself, but Chan had such a comforting and welcoming energy you couldn't possibly say no to him.
"Okay."
"Wonderful." He smiled, offering you his hand. "Shall we begin?"
You took his hand and allowed him to lead you out of the dining room and into the massive living room, the couch and chairs made of maroon velvet. Upon closer inspection you were able to see intricate swirls and curls that were carved into the dark cherry wood lining the top of the backrest. A dust-free coffee table sat in front of the couch, a modern abstract art sculpture placed in the middle.
"The furniture is beautiful." You complimented. "Thank you. It was passed down to Hyunjin and I."
"You're lucky to have such beautiful furniture. These pieces are like something straight out of a castle."
"Ah, well, we like the gothic, vintage aesthetic."
Chan continued on, leading you to a study, then an art studio which he said belonged to Hyunjin. Some of his works were hung on the walls, most of them depicting landscapes and other scenery painted with watercolor or oil paints while others were sketched with pencil.
You walked in step with Chan as he strode down the massive corridor lined with vintage paintings and vases on pedestals. You came to a stop, taking a moment to admire the plants.
"Beautiful flowers." You commented, gazing at the vase full of crimson blooms.
"Do you know what the meaning of red roses are, Y/n?" Chan inquired.
You shook your head. "I don't."
"They symbolize passion, romance... desire." His gaze trailed over, eyeing you up and making you shy away from him.
"I see." You murmured, feeling your cheeks burn. "I need to use the lady's room, if you don't mind. Where can I find it?"
"Ah, of course. It's just down the hall. Turn the corner and keep going until you reach the door with the purple flowers beside it."
You responded with a quiet thank you before scurrying off. You didn't actually have to use the restroom, you just needed to go somewhere private to collect yourself. Both Chan and Hyunjin have been extremely charming and flirtatious since you arrived at the manor, this attention being something you weren't used to and it left you feeling a bit overwhelmed.
The hallways in the mansion were like a maze. Each door looked the same, making it harder to keep track. Even with Chan's instructions you weren't sure where the restroom was.
The door with the purple flowers. You repeated mentally, looking at each vase that lined the hall, stopping when you spotted the violet-hued blooms, the only problem was the flowers sat between two doors.
Maybe it's this one.
You reached out and twisted the knob, pushing the door on the left open, but it wasn't the restroom you found.
To your surprise, Hyunjin was splayed out on the bed, his lithe body wrapped in chains. He jerked on the metal restraints, growling as he tried and failed to escape.
When you entered the room, his head lifted, his crimson irises boring into you. You stepped back, startled by the unnatural and unsettling sight.
"Hyunjin?"
His eyes gleamed at the sight of you.
"Y/n." He purred. "There you are."
"I was just looking for the restroom." You squeaked out. "I got lost."
"Seems you have."
The way he was looking at you made you feel as if you were a piece of meat, prey that was seconds from being devoured. Before you could even try leaving, Hyunjin spoke up.
"Come closer." He said, his voice silken and sultry.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why?"
"Chan says I need to stay away from you."
"Well, Chan's a liar. He's even more dangerous than me."
"What do you mean?"
"Come closer and I'll tell you."
You looked at him warily.
"Come on, Y/n. I won't bite."
Your foot moved forward as you took a step towards the bed, your heart pounding in your chest, hammering against your rig cage. Hyunjin could hear it loud and clear, his mouth watering as he thought about the delicious blood your racing heart was pumping through your body.
Everything in you screamed at you to turn around and leave, but something about Hyunjin drew you to him and you couldn't seem to stop yourself. You came to a stop beside the bed, making sure to keep your distance as you took in his restrained form.
"Come a little closer." He breathed.
"Why are you chained up?" You asked, ignoring his request.
"Lean down and I'll whisper it to you."
Slowly you began to lean down closer to Hyunjin, his sanguine irises seeming to glow as the space between the both of you diminished, then just before you could get too close, a hand reached out to grab hold of your arm and jerk you back away from the dark-haired male. You bumped into a firm chest, causing a grunt to slip from you.
"What are you doing in here?" Chan asked.
It was then that you realized it was him who had grabbed you.
When did he get in here?
"I'm sorry. I went in the wrong room." You apologized.
"You need to get out." He told you sternly, leading you towards the bedroom's entrance.
"I knew I should have locked the door." He grumbled under his breath.
"Y/n, don't let him take you." Hyunjin called from the bed.
You turned to Chan. "What's he talking about?"
"Nothing. He's not in his right mind."
"He's a wolf in sheep's clothing." Hyunjin continued.
He was lying through his teeth. Chan was responsible and fully capable of controlling his bloodthirsty tendencies, but Hyunjin wanted you so badly he was willing to say whatever to get you to trust him.
Chan was quick to push you behind him.
"Leave." He demanded.
You took a hesitant step back, watching the way his eyes never left Hyunjin's, the two glaring at each other with such anger, it permeated the air. In that moment, you could have sworn you saw Chan's eyes flash the same crimson hue as Hyunjin's.
You slowly started backing towards the door, the animosity so palpable it was nearly suffocating you. Your hand reached for the doorknob.
"Don't leave."
It was Hyunjin that spoke.
"Stay and watch the show."
You turned to see a dark and amused smirk on his face. Chan grabbed him by the collar, the chains jingling in response to his harsh actions.
"I can't believe you." He growled. "This was supposed to be a civil dinner and you can't go five minutes without thinking about feeding."
Feeding?
"You wouldn't have to worry about that if you just let me do what I wanted. You're always getting in the way!" Hyunjin hissed, two sharp fangs on display making you gasp, your back hitting the door as you stepped further away from the two.
"Well, when letting you do what you want could cause harm to our dinner guest, I have to step in and intervene."
"I wasn't going to kill her. I just wanted a taste."
"What's going on?" You finally asked, having had enough of this odd behavior.
There was something that you didn't know and you hated that they were arguing as if you weren't standing right there in the room. Not only that, but you were starting to get scared and wondered if you were in danger.
"I didn't want it to come to this." Chan sighed, turning towards you, his irises matching Hyunjin's. "Unfortunately, you've walked into a house of vampires."
Your body went cold, limbs going numb as you felt the blood drain from your face.
Vampires.
As outlandish and impossible as it sounded, it made sense. The eerie vibe that seemed to loom over the mansion, the antique decor inside, Hyunjin's glowing red eyes, and both boys' odd behavior. It all added up. You knew the truth, but you couldn't seem to process it.
"Look, you've scared her." Hyunjin remarked from his restrained position.
"You're the one who scared her." Chan snapped, agitated at his younger housemate for ruining the evening.
Out of all the questions and phrases swarming around your jumbled and confused mind, the words that came out were, "I need to leave."
Before you could even reach for the doorknob, Chan was standing before you, stopping you from doing anything.
"Not so fast."
You stiffened, fearing the thought of what he might do to you and what he was capable of.
"You can't leave without letting me explain."
"Then explain."
Chan gave a glance to Hyunjin before pulling you out of the room, ignoring the younger vampire's protests as he did so.
"I'm sorry you had to see that." He apologized once you were standing out in the hallway.
You didn't respond, instead taking a step away from Chan in hopes to put a little distance between the both of you.
"Despite what you saw, Hyunjin knows how to control himself. However, some days are a struggle—especially today. I had to chain him up in order to keep him from doing something stupid. Our plan was to have a nice meal with you and discuss business."
"You didn't exactly do that."
"No, and I blame Hyunjin for that. He was getting way off topic earlier."
Though Chan seemed to be the most level-headed between the two, you didn't want to let your guard down completely. After all, these are vampires you're dealing with. If there was some truth in those not-so-fictitious stories, then Chan and Hyunjin's kind were very persuasive.
"You're not going to hurt me, are you?"
It was a stupid question to ask. He could very easily lie and say he would never lay a finger on you.
Chan seemed taken aback at your inquiry, his expression showing the slight offense he had taken due to the query. "No. Of course not."
You studied his features, gazing warily into his crimson irises. He could sense your unease and was quick to return to his normal appearance, not wanting to make you any more uncomfortable than you already were.
"I promise. You have my word, Y/n."
A beat passed before you nodded. "Alright."
You hoped you wouldn't regret that.
He took a single step forward and it took everything in you not to back away.
"I didn't even ask if you were okay." He tilted his head to the side, one of his hands coming up to cup your cheek as he scanned your face, concern etched onto his alluringly handsome features.
You had to admit, despite knowing Chan and Hyunjin were both vampires, you couldn't deny the fact that they were both incredibly good-looking and charming.
They could drain you dry in less than a minute. A voice in your head reminded you.
But the way Chan's thumb dragged along your bottom lip so delicately was making you think differently.
Hyunjin, who was just on the other side of the door, could hear how fast your heart was beating. He jerked on the chains in another failed attempt to break or loosen them, growling in agitation when they didn't budge, only rattling due to his abrupt movements.
"I know what you're doing!" He yelled from inside. "You want her all to yourself!"
"I would suggest continuing the tour of the mansion, but I think it's best we send you home." Chan mentioned, dropping his hand from your face, choosing to ignore his younger counterpart's comments from inside the room.
Home. You liked the sound of that.
This day had been far too strange for your liking.
"What about him?" You asked.
"I'll deal with him later. A blood bag is all he needs to calm him down."
The mention of the bodily fluid made the corner of your mouth twitch downward in distaste. He spoke about it so casually as if it was a normal thing—well, for them it was.
"Follow me." Chan extended his hand, but you didn't take it.
He slowly retracted his outstretched palm, resting his hands behind his back and striding down the hallway.
Back in the living room, Chan offered you a seat on the sofa. You obliged, keeping your hands folded in your lap and your eyes fixed on the floor. The feeling of the couch cushion sinking next to you grabbed your attention. Sitting right beside you on the sofa was Chan, his deep brown eyes gazing at you, scanning over your features.
He brought his hand up to your face, his thumb caressing your cheek, a gentle smile on his full lips, which you noticed were incredibly pretty.
"I'm glad you're okay, my sweet."
The term of endearment made your heart flip despite being on edge around him.
Your gaze stayed locked on Chan as he leaned in and pressed a delicate kiss just underneath your ear, hesitant in his actions as if to test the waters. Your mind screamed danger but you couldn't seem to move away. You wondered if he was capable of compelling people like the movies depict or if he was just that charming.
His kisses moved further down your neck, nearing your carotid artery. Your breath hitched in response, worried of what his true intentions were.
"I won't hurt you." He assured gently, pressing another kiss to your skin.
The sound of a car horn outside made Chan pull away. He got to his feet and moved over to see who it was.
"Oh." Chan peered out the window. "Looks like your ride is here."
Though he proved to not be a threat, you couldn't help but feel a sense of relief.
"I should go, then." You responded, keeping your voice even so as not to give away how eager you were to leave the mansion.
Despite your efforts to appear calm, Chan could hear how rapidly your heart was racing and he knew it wasn't from the kiss.
He led you over to the front entrance and allowed you to step outside where you muttered a goodbye over your shoulder and got inside the car, not closing the door just yet.
"Come back soon, yeah?" Chan grinned, waving at you from the doorway.

Kinktober 2022 Mini Masterlist
A soft moan of his name falls from your lips as you feel his hips roll into yours once more. The image on the mirror in front of you becomes too much, watching as his hands roam your body, one coming up to fondle a breast in one hand while the other snakes around your waist, holding you to him. Your head tilts back to rest on his shoulder, exposing the delicate skin there, and allowing for him to lean in, nipping along the column of your neck as his fangs graze the tender flesh beneath him.
“See?” He hums, eyes darting to your own in the reflection of the mirror. “See how well you fit into my arms? Like you were made for me.”
In time with his words, Hyunjin begins to roll your nipple between his fingers, eliciting another beautiful moan from you which graces his ears. Every sound, every hitch in your breath, he hears, and to him, there is nothing greater than knowing the effect he has on you. You are his, and nothing is going to change that.
“Your body sings to me, My Dear,” he whispers into your neck, moving to nip at the shell of your ear in the next moment as he rolls his hips into yours yet again. “You are the greatest indulgence I have ever had the pleasure to experience in my life.”
The way you arch your back, breath hitching as he hits a certain spot inside of you has his chest swelling with pride. Your next words only serve to fuel his ego even more.
“Only you can make me feel this good,” you breathe, meeting his gaze once more in the mirror.
Even you cannot deny the way his eyes flash, tinting red beneath the moonlight as your words settle into every fibre of his being. His cock twitches, and his resounding snarl cause your walls to squeeze around him so deliciously.
“That’s right, My Dear,” Hyunjin’s voice rumbles out as he feels something within himself snap at your words. Finally, you understand that the two of your are meant to be, that you are the only one for him and he is the only one for you. He emphasizes his words with sharp, deep thrusts into you, making you feel every inch of him buried in your tight walls. “Only I can touch you. Only you get to feel me like this.”
“Hyunjin,” the way you sigh his name, your eyes fluttering closed in bliss, has him picking up the pace, his thrusts becoming sharper and much quicker than before, needing you to feel every ounce of love he’s pouring into each movement.
Biting down onto the skin of your shoulder elicits another moan out of you, though he makes sure it’s not enough to break your flesh. So badly does he want to indulge himself - to indulge in all you have to offer him, and he to you - but he holds himself back. As he’s been doing all night. You are still only human, and he would despise himself were any harm to come to you, especially by his own hands. You are his precious flower, and he would hate to see you wilt. You’re not ready for that yet.
Luckily, over the years, Hyunjin has been able to master his own strength. He knows exactly the right amount of pressure to use to make sure his partner is experiencing the most out of their encounters. He knows exactly how rough he can be before breaking them. The only problem is, you make it extremely difficult for him to remain in control.
All he wants to do is ravish you. To drown you in a pleasure only he can provide for you, until all that’s left is his name on your lips, and your body craving his touch.
You, who fits so delicately in his arms as he continues to sink his cock deep within your warmth, your essence weeping onto his thighs with every thrust. You, who cries out his name so sinfully as he moves his free hand down to flick at your swollen clit, your mouth parting as your whole body begins to tremble in his arms.
You, who has captivated him since the moment you first met, and has altered his very being so much so that he would die were you not around.
Desperately, your one hand reaches around to grab at the skin of his hip, pulling him even closer to you with every thrust he makes. Your nails bite into his flesh, causing another rumble of content to build within his chest as he surrounds you in him - all of him.
What he doesn’t expect, however, is for your other hand to creep up your own body, moving to settle on top of his that’s still squeezing and toying with your one breast. Slowly, you drag it up your body, and he lets you, watching with a newfound intensity shining within his eyes as he meets your gaze in the mirror.
The pleading look you send him, desperate in all the ways he loves, nearly sends him to his knees.
Hyunjin smirks, loving the way he sees your hand fall from his own just below your neck, only to settle on his wrist in the next moment. You tilt your head back even further onto his shoulder as his fingers dance along the sides, moving to cover the entire area with the palm of his hand.
“Please,” you beg, your gaze never leaving his for one second. “Make me yours.”
A growl tears from his lips as he nearly comes right then and there from your words alone. You really have no idea the effect you have on him, do you? How much your words mean, especially in this moment. The fact that your love him enough, that you trust him enough to even let him anywhere near your neck during such an intimate moment has him going crazy.
You’ve already let his fangs dance along the skin of your neck, even if it was only teasingly, but now you want him to actually hold you? To put your life in his hands - quite literally - as he makes love to you like this where you can watch every little detail?
Hyunjin thought he was in love with you before, but this only serves to strengthen it until it pulses right beneath his skin, echoing through every part of his soul. You are perfect, and he will never forget the vulnerability you continue to show all for him, and for him alone.
“You’re mine,” his voice is but a snarl as he closes his hand around your neck, squeezing at the sides to restrict your airflow slightly.
He’s gentle. Surprisingly so, given the situation, and you know he’s holding himself back. Yet one look into his eyes and you understand that were he to unleash himself fully on you right now, you would not survive the night. Not that you’d really be complaining; seeing him go feral - truly feral - over you is a sight you long to behold.
Perhaps another night, then…
Still, you cannot deny the way your head spins from the feeling of his hand around your throat. A whole tremor wracks your body, and you can tell you’re close. The way he’s pounding into you, combined with the sensations of his hands on your body is making you see stars.
From the look on his face, you can tell that he’s close, too.
“Come with me,” he rasps out, releasing his hold on your neck so you can breathe properly once more, yet not bothering to move his hand away just yet. “Please, My Dear, come for me.”
His eyes lock onto your face as he flicks your clit a few more times, and just as he feels your walls spasming around him with the first signs of your release, he smirks.
The hand he still has placed around your throat moves, tightening its hold on you once more, but this time, it’s stronger. This time, he doesn’t treat you as if you’re the most delicate piece of glass that could break at the slightest touch. No, this time, when he squeezes, your eyes roll into the back of your head, whole body trembling as your orgasm washes over you, needing to lean against his chest for support.
“Fuck- that’s it,” he hisses, feeling the first signs of his own release chasing after yours as he stills inside of you. “Just like that.”
Releasing his hold on your neck carefully, Hyunjin is quick to replace the spot his fingers once were with his lips, sucking on the delicate skin there as he feels your blood rushing through your veins. He can practically taste your blood on his tongue, a fact which makes his whole body shake, holding you even closer as your walls convulse around him, milking him for all he’s got.
It takes a whole minute for your vision to clear, your chest rising and falling with each uneven breath you take. Your one arm comes to settle on top of his which has found its way back around your waist, while the other comes up to tangle in his hair. In an instant, you pull him in for a kiss, tilting your head to the side as you need to feel his lips on yours once more.
Again, Hyunjin cannot help but think how perfectly you fit into his arms, his body practically caging you into him. Like you were made for each other.
Slowly, he pulls out of you, a strangled moan leaving your lips as he does so. He grins.
“Don’t sound so disappointed, My Dear,” in a flash, he’s picked you up and placed you on the bed, hovering over you with that all too familiar smirk residing on his features. “I’m nowhere near done with you yet.”

Parings: Vampire Chan x Female Reader (established relationship) Word Count: 2.3k Genre: Vampire Au, romance, smut Warnings: 18+, Minors DNI, unprotected sex (don't be stupid), vaginal fingering, swearing, biting/marking A/N: This is a one shot of a series I did it can be read alone but would make much more sense if you read the whole series. You can find that here but it isn't essential.
After months together and your grandmother's gift to you, you have decided you are no longer afraid to let Chan mark you as his forever.
Music pumped rhythmically as you made your way into Ordinary for the first time in a long time, the décor hadn't changed and neither had the atmosphere for heavy drinking and wild dancing it seemed a strange place to be meeting for a date but Chan had assured you that it would be the perfect location and you trusted his judgement. He had long proved his sentimentality when it came to anything or anyone he treasured and, while he did have to remind you, it had been at Oddinary that you had first caught his eye. You also knew he was always incredibly romantic and very old fashioned when it came to you and your relationship. He had been cautious to move your relationship along physically after he realized your fears of him marking you, using the excuse of not wanting to lose control and do anything against your wishes, and for a while you had been content with just kisses, cuddles as sweet words but now you wanted so much more.
Making your way through patrons that were littering the walkway by the bar you felt eyes following you, you paused once you reached the corridor leading from the main bar to the kitchen and bathrooms before venturing down the dimly lit hall until you reached the very end knocking you knuckles against the door casually. A small window in the door slid open and piercing blue eyes met your own you smiled and nodded politely waiting for him to allow you entrance.
"Good evening Miss" a gruff voice answered as the door swung open to reveal a very tall thin gentleman.
"Good evening" You nodded and smiled again passing by him easily and making your way into the basement of the establishment. Chan had previously mentioned that Oddinary had catered for both humans and Oddinaries alike but not that there had been an entirely separate bar in the basement for that reason. Entering the actual club you heard the soft sounds of piano floating gracefully through out the room, red velvet drapes and dark jewel toned leathers gave the room an old world elegance that was jarring from the upstairs neon lights and pumping noise music. A few Oddinaries were seated in booths around the edge of the room including your precious Chan. Chan stood the moment he saw you enter it was his typical gentlemanly ways coming out, and it always caused you to smile, he was always able to sweep you off your feet especially when he looked like he stepped of a movie screen in his back suit and crisp white shirt.
"You look beautiful" he smiled brightly at his eyes sparkling in the low light as he took in the navy dress you had worn for him.
"Thank you Channie, you look rather gorgeous yourself" you giggled as he kissed your cheek and guided you to your seat.
"Apparently I clean up nicely when I let Hyunjin and Jeongin dress me" he admitted smirking, as he noticed you staring at him, which had the desired effect as you felt your cheeks warm up under his heated stare.
"You never did tell me why you wanted to meet here and not just at home?" You murmured as a Nymph girl appeared at your table bringing a suspiciously familiar purple shimmering drink "Is this?"
"Yes it is and no I didn't did I?" he watched as you took a small sip from the glass his eyes burning your skin where they lingered.
"Are you going to tell me now?" you teased gently biting your lower lip as you placed the glass back on the table your fingers stroking the cold surface slowly collecting the condensation on your fingertips.
"I wanted to give the boys time to all clear out of the house" he shrugged his eyes flicking between your fingers and your face "The last thing I want is any interruptions tonight my love"
"Ever the planner" you smirked feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement light up in your blood, knowing Chan would feel it too, you were pleased when he had to stifle a groan as you pressed your thighs together to feel the tiniest amount of relief.
"And you are being a rather naughty girl tonight love" You have spent far too much time with Hyunjin and Changbin he faux scolded taking a mouthful of the gin he had left sitting in front of him.
"What time did you tell the boys they needed to be out?" your voice almost a whisper
"They should all be upstairs did you not see them as you came in?" he chuckled darkly as your eyes widened slightly "Minho will be very disappointed that you don't take your safety and surroundings seriously"
"I felt eyes, I knew they were harmless and I was distracted by this incredibly attractive Vampire I was meeting here" you pouted looking away from him.
"Well I don't like the sound of that I better get you home so you are safe" he smiled suggestively standing and reaching for your hand which you gave him automatically. "Shall we love?"
You giggled as he led you back up the stairs but instead of leaving through the front bar he led you through the rear doors and straight to his car his hands wandering your shoulders, arms and back the further from the bar you got. Opening the door for you, as always, he assisted you inside before kissing your knuckles again and making his way to the drivers side beaming as he drove the pair of you home. The tension between you only grew during the short drive, you hand resting on top of the hand he had resting on your fabric covered thigh. Pulling up to the townhouse your nervous excitement only grew, the anticipation of Chan finally touching you the way you had wanted him to for weeks was almost too much for you.
Leading you into his bedroom you dropped your bag and keys on the desk under the large window only to find yourself tugged backwards pressed against Chan's hard chest.
"You can stop me anytime you need my love" he whispered seductively kissing the shell of your ear "But from the way your heart is beating I'm going to assume you are not going to want me to"
"Chan please don't stop" you gasped his hand sliding up your body pausing to gently squeeze your breasts before making its way around your throat holding you firmly to him "want this please"
"You are perfect baby" he chuckled letting you go suddenly leaving you blinking and unbalanced "I'll give you what ever you want as long as you will be a good girl for me" he spun you around to face him claiming your lips before you had a chance to focus on his face. His kiss was all consuming as though he could steal your breath from you as his plush lips glided against your own. Kissing his way down your jaw to your neck you couldn't help letting your head fall to the opposite side.
"I'll be so good Chan" you whined while he grazed the skin on your neck and shoulder with his teeth nibbling and kissing everywhere he could reach which only made him smirk against your skin sliding the strap of your dress from your shoulder.
"Can I take this off of you?" he teased lightly pulling on the zipper at the back of your dress with one hand while the other stroked across your waist.
"Yes please" you whimpered feeling almost drunk on how intense the emotions you were feeling were becoming and the feel of his hand on you. Agonizingly slowly Chan lowered the zip slipping the fabric off your body with ease leaving you in nothing but your underwear. You could hear his breath suck in sharply as he took in your mostly naked body, instantly taking the upper hand you placed your hands on his chest carefully backing him up to the bed and gently pushing him to sit.
"Love?" he murmured lowly watching you straddle his legs your hands moving to push his jacket from his broad shoulders.
"Let me help you Channie, just want to be your good girl" you cooed looking at him with your best doe eyes, starting to unbutton the shirt he was wearing fingers stroking the skin you exposed making him groan beneath you. His hard chest was a work of art and you had a sneaking suspicion the rest of him would be too as you dragged your fingers toward the fastenings of his pants.
Chan stopped you continuing by capturing your chin between his fingers holding you in place with just enough force for you to know he meant it. Pulling you in for another passionate kiss his tongue tracing the seam of your lips asking your entrance, which you gave him easily, his tongue gliding with yours as he deepened the kiss further. Lifting you from his lap he carefully laid you on the bed hovering over you as he continued to kiss you, his hands mapping your skin and making you feel as though you were on fine. You gasped as his fingered teased the edge of your underwear hooking his forefingers in the waist band he tugged them leisurely down your legs flinging them somewhere for you to find later.
"Do you still want this?" he whispered against your lips his fingers expertly slipping between your open thighs and caressing your wet slit.
"Please, yes, please" you whimpered bucking your hips slightly towards his fingers "want you Chan, only you"
Chan growled lowly letting his fingers dip between your lips and feeling how slick with arousal you were for him easily slipped a single one inside you as his thumb began its tortuously slow pace of circling your clit. Your head was spinning, you already felt like you were on fire with how much you wanted him but now you could feel how badly he desired you and it was launching you almost over the edge without him doing anything more than tease you then he added another digit to your entrance making you arch off the bed with pleasure.
"Oh gods" you moaned loudly grasping his arms and shirt so hard you though you might tear the fabric.
"Can you feel that baby? feel what you make me feel? feel what I want to do to you?" He groaned as he felt your orgasm approaching as your walls tightened around his fingers.
"Yes.... Chan... I feel it...please I need more...please" you begged from beneath, hips cantering against his hand looking for more friction.
"Good girl baby, beg for me" he growled increasing his pace and bringing you so close to the edge you were dripping onto his hand unable to do anything but arch and moan beneath him. He pulled himself away from you leaving you dazed and confused as he rapidly undressed himself before returning to you "What do you need baby?"
"You Chan. I need you" you pleaded hands moving to cup his face "Only you Chan". You watching his eyes darken until they were almost black as he slowly leaned into to kiss you again, his hard length sliding between your folds before sheathing himself inside you making you cry out in bliss as he stretched you around him.
"You're so beautiful" he moaned pounding into you remorselessly his hips slamming against yours "All mine" you mewled helplessly letting him have you however he wanted the combined emotions of the two of you causing you to lose all self control as you came hard on his cock moaning his name loudly. He slid himself from you making you whine at the loss of the feeling of him inside you, he gently repositioned you onto your knees pushing himself back inside your swollen entrance.
"Chan" you gasped desperately feeling him even deeper inside you than before he dick perfectly rubbing against your g spot as he thrusted into you slower this time. Clawing at the sheets you almost came again when he wrapped one large hand around your throat and pulled you up against his chest. You could feel how close he was as hip hips began to stutter as he continued burying himself inside you.
"Good girl, are you ready? are you sure?" he ground out between his gritted teeth.
"Please" you whimpered again overwhelmed by what you were feeling his love for you, his lust, his need to keep you with him forever and your need to stay with him. Your heart felt like it was going to burst with how intense everything felt now that you you truly understood what it meant to be his mate. Less than a second later he tilted your head to the left and you felt a sharp pain as his teeth pierced the skin of your neck, the pain faded almost as quickly as is occurred replaced instead with intense pleasure which caused you to scream as you came so hard your vision went white causing Chan to follow you over the edge filling you with his seed into your convulsing core before everything went dim. It was like everything faded away and it was just the two of you left in the world as you opened your eyes to find Chan already tending to the wound on the bottom of your neck.
"I am so sorry my love, forgive me" he murmured sadly kissing your forehead.
"I don't understand" you croaked your voice hoarse from overuse.
"I took too much, I should have made sure that Felix or Han were home to keep you safe" his voice shook as he continued to dress the wound that you realized you would wear forever.
"I am always safe with you, Chan and I always will be" you smiled reaching for his face to get him to kiss you again.
"I hurt you though" he sadly attempted to argue.
"No you didn't I'm fine I promise" you soothed peppering his face with kisses "Now please hold me" you pouted, making him sigh in defeat and gently take you into his arms pulling you to his bare chest.
"I love you" he kissed your hair as you listened to his breathing.
"I love you to Chan, forever" you smiled knowing that this was just the start of the next part of your life together.

I felt his cold lips peck my forehead through my hair and I shivered even more than I did before. I felt so weak, but I wanted nothing more than to disappear underneath his protection.
"I promise." He said with brooding strength in his voice.
He cradled my head in his chest as my tears failed to stop. My life had been threatened more times than I was comfortable admitting at the time. Falling from that window made me believe that it was truly the end. And the only one who could save me actually did. He was right there, holding my almost-naked body.
"Hyunjin," Taehyun whispered, "I think you should take Beomgyu home tonight while Yeonjun and I fix the room."
"Are you sure?" Hyunjin asked.
I was asking the same thing as I didn't understand why I couldn't be there.
"Yeah, I think it's better for him to be with you right now... Sure you sent Felix away, but there's no guarantee that he's actually gone."
That line put an anxious thought in my head. Felix will always be lurking. Perhaps one is likely to try harder when there's nothing to lose (not even a life) and everything to gain.
"You're right," Hyunjin squeezed my arm, "Are you sure you're okay?"
I lifted my head up to look at Taehyun. He silently nodded.
"I'll take care of him."
Taehyun was entirely right about sending me to Hyunjin's house. I felt so safe in Hyunjin's dark, candlelit room and big soft bed. I lied down immediately and Hyunjin joined. We were facing each other and he looked at me with only kindness in his eyes. For once, he didn't seem so distracted or preoccupied. He was completely focused on me.
"You're so intense." I said quietly.
"I don't mean to be. Intensity is in my DNA."
I chuckled at his charming joke. Despite that, I knew he was serious. He only ever cracked a few jokes around me and they were sandwiched between some of the most traumatic moments we've shared together. He was twisted. That's why I liked him so much.
"I wish I could know what's going on inside that head of yours. I can only get words and scattered phrases, never a full thought."
"Well, I was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age. I've been off my meds since I ran away," I admitted, "So honestly, I wish I could read my mind too... And I wish..."
I trailed off as my eyes fell from his eyes to his lips. They were full, pink and alluring.
"You wish?"
"I wish I knew why you liked me."
And his lips spread into the most comforting and endearing smile, hiding his deep red eyes from view a tad.
"I like you because you're good. You're good and pure. You're beautiful," He grabbed my hand and interlocked his cold fingers with mine, "And you give me something I could never give myself in a million years."
"What's that?"
"Your warmth." He said as he kissed the back of my hand.
That was the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me. And to make it more romantic, I actually believed him. Even if he was lying, I would've been able to take that and pat myself on the back with it. He's right whether it's true or not.
"Last night, Beomgyu, something happened in the kitchen. It's a bit of a long story, but," He said as he slowly separated his hand from mine and held his palm up to show a rough, reddish mark, "I did this because I was craving your warmth. Craving you."
Sirens and alarms went off in my head. To say he was craving me wasn't the best choice of words considering the events of the last few days. My gaze trailed down his arm to notice that he failed to mention the clear bite mark on his wrist.
"Excuse me?"
"Not like that. I meant I wanted to hold you. Like how I'm doing now."
I stared at his mildly burned palm until he lowered it to a comfortable spot on my chest.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, it didn't hurt that badly."
"No, Hyunjin, are you okay," I pressed, "You shouldn't hurt yourself..."
His face fell. He avoided eye contact for a moment while he circled his middle finger around a spot on my chest. He was thinking, calculating. Until he looked back up at me.
"I guess you're right."
"You've saved my life three times, Hyunjin. Don't forget to save yourself sometimes too."
His eyes bounced between mine and my lips. That was until he nuzzled the icy tip of his nose to my nose and flirted his lips onto me. They were soft and pillowy, perfectly pressing into my lips. I closed my eyes and focused only on the sensation of his kiss. I centered my senses on the delicate touch.
Suddenly my body completely surrendered to him. The hand that rested on my chest snuck it's way to my neck and tugged lightly on my hair. Our kisses became deeper as I wrapped my arms around his back and pulled him closer to me. He softly sucked on my bottom lip, but I winced at the feeling of his fangs.
"I-I'm sorry, did that hurt?" He asked.
"Only a little bit... I've never made out with someone like you."
"I've never made out with someone like you either," He swiped a strand of hair from my forehead, "Someone whose mind I couldn't read."
"Does it matter that much?"
"I don't know what you want from me, Beomgyu."
Oh. I was beginning to understand his logic. For centuries, he'd been the perfect partner because of his powers. He was romantically, platonically and even sexually flawless. All of a sudden, he was powerless against me. He was just as clueless as me when it came to the other's pleasure and desires. And honestly, his vulnerability got to me, making my heart beat faster and harder.
"Then just kiss me and let me take the lead."
His face, that was once so shy and unsure, glowed after I said that. He kissed me deeply, fangs muffled by his soft lips. I hummed in satisfaction before turning Hyunjin to his backside and toppling him.
I snuck my hands behind his neck and played with his long, black hair. He hummed into my lips and the soft, seductive sound had butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I sank my body into his even more. That's when I felt the throbbing bulge between his legs.
He put his arms on my back, fingertips pressing threw the fabric of my shirt.
"Do you want me as much as I want you," He asked, sliding his hands down my back and resting at my hips, "Because I really want you, Beomgyu."
"I do." I said as I dragged my hands to the neckline of his sweater.
Before I knew it, his hands were unbuttoning my pants and I was lifting up his sweater. I sat up and looked down at his pale, sculpted abdomen. Tracing my fingers along the grooves of his stomach, I felt my dick harden in my pants. I was silently begging him to remove them faster. So I tore his sweater over his head to reveal his bare chest.
I let my fingers explore his body, the chill heightening my senses. Hyunjin grabbed my hand and brought it up to his lips.
"How do you want me, Beomgyu," He asked as he kissed my fingertips, "Something tells me I'm not as flexible as you are."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I think you're a switch," He grabbed my wrist and pulled me down so my face was hovering over his, "And I'm not."
"Maybe you can read my mind."
He smirked as he gently cradled me under him in a seamless move. He kissed me from my lips to my cheek, jaw and neck until he got to the collar of my shirt. All the while he was using one hand to tug my pants off.
"But," I said breathlessly, "It's been a while... So, I just-."
"I'll be gentle."
He successfully pulled my pants off and revealed my hard-on in my underwear. it was a vulnerable place to be in, half naked under him. And there wasn't a hint of regret. When his cold fingers traced up my thighs, I felt my body tense.
"But you have to relax," He whispered, kissing my thighs and inching closer and closer to my cock, "And trust me."
Hyunjin's lips met the hem of my underwear. His skin ship was teasing me so intensely, I thought I was going to explode. Then again, it'd been so long since I'd been touched like that.
"I trust you." My voice shook with anticipation.
He kissed my clothed shaft until he reached the tip before sliding down my underwear. He stared longingly at my dick. I saw his mouth twitch in want. I just said that I trusted him, but I didn't trust him not to hurt me during a blow job.
He slipped my length in his mouth, swallowing me without me feeling any sharpness. All I felt was his lips and tongue. And eventually the back of his throat. I gasped at the feeling.
"Fuck," I moaned, combing my hand through Hyunjin's hair to keep his head steady, "Stay right there."
And he did, letting my tip slide in and out of his throat. My hips bucked up and my grip on him lightened so he could breathe. I was gasping for air myself. His mouth was the most pleasurable organ my sex had felt in so long. I was left whimpering when he finally let up.
"Was that okay?" He asked with a perfect combination of sensual innocence.
"Mhm." I moaned.
"Can you reach under your pillow?" He asked.
I reached my hand up until it ran into a small bottle. It seemed I pulled out a very fancy bottle of lube. It was shaped like a human heart with a dark red tint on the glass. He took it from my hand and popped it open.
"Hyunjin, can I tell you something?" I asked as I watched him lube up his index and middle fingers.
"Of course."
"When I first came over, I opened one of your drawers."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah... And I saw those glass anal beads."
He chuckled lowly, using his dry hand to brush his hair back from his pretty face. God, he's gorgeous.
"So what? Do you wanna use them?" His question was serious and flirtatious.
"Not yet... Right now, I just want you."
He snuck his lubed fingers to my hole and traced the sensitive circle. I was quickly realizing how good it felt for him to touch me and how my body reacted so naturally to that supernatural human. His eyes trailed up my body, taking in my wet, throbbing cock.
"You're practically drooling."
"My apologies, is it not attractive," He asked cutely, slowly sliding his finger tip inside me, "Your body is perfect, I can't help but salivate."
His spit slicked my ass even more, but the praise is what melted me around his finger. I whimpered and whined as he steadily pumped his finger inside me.
"S-say it again. Please." I begged helplessly.
"Say what," He smirked, bringing his free hand to my dick and stroking it confidently, "That your body is so perfect, I think it was made for me? You were made for me to make love to."
"Fuck." My voice shook on the stimulation.
His finger penetrated deep enough to massage the most erogenous spot inside. Paired with his stroking, I was reaching my climax quicker than I had anticipated.
"H-hyunjin," I squirmed a bit, gripping the sheets at my sides, "I'm s-so close."
With that he quickened the pace of his stroking and eased another finger inside me. He fingered me so perfectly, fast enough to get me off yet slow enough not to tear the sensitive skin. Just when my pleasure was at its peak and my moans became more desperate, he wrapped his mouth around the tip of my cock. His tongue licked and sucked on the tip while he hand rubbed the shaft.
Overwhelmed with pleasurable stimulation, my body jerked and twitched uncontrollably. My moans filled the room, my legs were shaking and my vision was blurred from the sensation.
"I'm gonna cum." I muttered between moans.
And I shamelessly let my orgasm fill his mouth. It was the release I needed from all the madness around me. It kind of baffled me that Hyunjin, of all people, was the one to relieve the stress. At that moment, I questioned how we ended up there. How I went from an insufferable human, to the warmth he didn't know he was looking for. Though it happened to me in real time, I couldn't fathom the possibility of us being intimate like that.
He took his hand off of my dick and took down his pants while his other hand occupied my ass. He gently spread his fingers and loosened me up even more. His pants and underwear were finally off and his long, veiny cock got comfortable between my legs. Hyunjin spit the cum from his mouth onto his hand and stroked his dick.
"You don't mind me fucking your cum back into you, do you?" He asked so casually.
"I don't mind," My hoarse voice whispered as I reached my hand to his chest, "I just want you.”
I was ready for him and whatever he had to give me. He used his fingers to guide his dick inside me. I felt my hole stretch to his size and I grabbed onto his arms for leverage.
"Relax, Beomgyu," He said, crimson eyes piercing through his long, black hair, "Let your body get used to me."
With that I did what he said. I let out a deep breath I didn't know I was holding. It quickly became easier to penetrate deeper. And it felt so fucking good. The slow insertion allowed me to feel every pulsing vein and twitch. He took his time thrusting into me. Every push and every pull fulfilled desires I didn't know I had. It felt right to be full of only him.
After getting to a comfortable heartbeat pace, he lowered his chest to mine and hovered his face over me. He slipped his arm under my neck and held me close. I held him too with my hands on his back. I faintly felt a rough texture line the space of his back. I didn't question it, I just held him as he made love to me.
"You feel so good." He panted, resting his forehead on mine.
"So do you." I moaned.
His pace quickened. My moans got louder and more desperate, but I could tell that he liked it. He growled into my lips. That was the first time I didn't mistake his lust for me with hunger. Even when he let up from my lips, winced at the pleasure and exposed his fangs, I trusted him.
I brushed his hair from his face as he pounded into me. He looked so beautiful. His eyebrows were pulled together in want and he wanted me. He didn't break eye contact with me. He was throbbing inside me, I could tell he was close to climax.
"Beomgyu," He gasped, "Can I finish inside you?"
I nodded. Hyunjin thrusted in me even harder. My hoarse voice only got worse with how vocal he made me. The closer he got, the more desperate he looked. He rested his head in the nape of my neck, clearly letting his dick control his body. He was fucking me relentlessly and it felt so damn good.
"I fucking love you, Beomgyu." He groaned as cum filled my asshole.
My heart was pounding but I couldn't tell of it was a result of having sex or hearing him confess that to me. It was probably both, but the latter worried me. And I was only worried because that was such a loaded thing to say in the heat of the moment.
He pulled out of me and rested on my heaving chest for a moment before laying down beside me. He kissed my shoulder and wrapped his arm over me, still panting.
"Are you alright?" He breathed out.
"You love me?"
"Oh, you heard that?"
"That sounds like a 'no.'"
He grabbed my chin and made me face him. I couldn't resist his gorgeous face that had his hair plastered to his forehead by sweat.
"I do love you, Beomgyu," He said seriously, "I always have. That's not just something I say when I have sex. I mean it... But I am sorry that that was the first time you heard it."
"It's okay. Because I love you too," A sweet, close-lipped smile graced his face, "But I love Taehyun too."
"I know you do. And that's okay. I'm not in love with Taehyun, but I do like him a lot. Especially with you."
"How are you and him so cool about these things? Why am I the only one whose nervous about this kind of relationship?"
"It's okay to be nervous. But, frankly, I don't think you have to be. We love you. Let us love you."
I curled into Hyunjin's body and he held me in his arms. I silently wished that Taehyun was with us, but I knew he was a lot more prudish than Hyunjin and I. But if he had been there to hold me as well, it would've felt even better. Naturally, I just assumed that we would have our time together soon.
"All of this love talk makes me think though."
"Think of what, my love?" He asked.
"Don't you think one day you'll get tired of saving me?"
"Oh, Beomgyu, I could never get tired of saving you. As long as I can, I will," He kissed my forehead, "I love you."

Since you brought up the Eyes on Fire duo, what do you imagine with this song?
alright this has been chilling in my drafts for awhile. gonna just dump it all out into one chunky, unedited and grammar-ed paragraph for you luce 😘 happiest halloween my spooky buddy 🧛🏽
This gives me post baseball scene vibes. But for our duo I’m thinking meeting with pack daddy...and he finds out about Minho which causes a fight. It's storming and Minho drives by a drenched Hanji who is angrily walking into town to see his human besite, Jeongin. Minho tucks him into the car, wraps him in a spare sleeping back he has in the back. Jisung is eerily quiet, in a way that makes Minho upset. Not with Han, but for Han. Minho tells him he has to drop something off at his house and then he can take him to Jeongin's. The rain slackens the closer they get to vampire's house. When they pull up at the gothic queen anne there is an equally broody vampire waiting. Raven haired Hwang Hyunjin perches in front of his painting on the porch. Hyunjin rolls his eyes at the sight of Minho and Jisung in the passenger seat. Minho squeezes his knee, "stay in the car pup." Jisung nods, burrowing further into the nylon of the sleeping bag. Minho retrieves a small handheld cooler from behind Han's seat. He gives the werewolf a tight smile before exiting the vehicle. A bright white blonde that Han has seen occasionally on campus bursts out the screened door, greeting Minho with a dazzling smile as he ascends the stairs to their home. Minho passes the elvish looking vampire the cooler and their eyes flick to Jisung. Han startles when the Lee Felix shoots him a brilliant smile and waves eagerly. Minho is quick to jerk the younger man's hand down. Whispering something to him as another stockier man joins Hyunjin on the porch. They tussle a little bit, Hyunjin slaps the other guy across the face with a peach toned paint, causing him to toss his head in Jisung's direction and Han realizes it's the college soccer star, Changbin. "Figures the elitists are all vampires." Jisung mumbles to himself, realizing he's outnumbered by vamps at school. Only himself, Seungmin and Chan attend college on campus verses online like the majority of the pack. "Did you call us the elitists?" Minho chuckles, slipping back behind the wheel. "Uh...yea. I didn't come up with the name. That's just what everyone else on campus calls you." Jisung mumbles quickly, staring at the zipper to the bag before chancing a peek at Minho. Who is staring at him with warm eyes. "Feel better pup?" Glacial fingertips reaching out to stroke Jisung's scalding cheek. "Hmm, you're a little warmer than normal." Han shrugs him off, all too aware that they have an audience. "I will be once I get to Jeongin's." Minho huffs a laugh but doesn't protest, he simply buckles himself back up and reverses out of the driveway. Han tries not to think too hard about Minho's hand on the back of his headrest. He's in enough trouble with his dad already, his feelings for the bloodsucker need to be smothered. Even if Jisung's brain wishes it were his lips smothering the frosty lips of Minho, instead of his growing feelings.

Kim Seungmin is in front of a very annoying and ridiculous dilemma. And all of that is linked to the pathetic fact that he is starving.
Everything is Lee Minho’s fault, to be honest. For decades actually, everything has been his fault, because Seungmin would have never been starving, pacing in front of the back entrance of a hospital if it had not been for Minho’s fault. He is starving because he has been pushing that moment for days now. Maybe at some point hunger will take over his phobia of blood and he will just jump on the first person that goes by. Or he will die of starvation. Like he could die. Fuck Minho.
Usually Minho would concede his part of responsibility in all this situation, and he would be the one to deal with the whole starving part but right now Minho has a new boy toy and has disappeared. Seungmin knows very well how all this will end up because he has been Minho’s boy toy at some point, a very long time ago, a century ago and sometimes he feels like throwing up when he thinks about it. Sure it was great at the beginning, but then it was not and Seungmin was stuck.
Stuck in the body of a twenty five year old, stuck between the eternal dilemma of drinking people’s blood or fading away in slumber in a dark place, preferably a coffin. And both sucks because Seungmin has always had a very deep phobia of blood and now he is eternally being confronted by him. Why was his twenty five years old self so damn stupid?
He feels sick, as much as he can in his vampire form at least. His body weakens and even in the night time he feels like the public lightning is hurting him, he has trouble focusing on his vision and his head hurts so much it gives him dizziness. Fuck.
It could be very easy actually, he could find one random person and suck their blood out, and all the symptoms will be gone and he will be fine to go for a few weeks again, but his phobia is just plain stupid. The idea of drinking blood out of someone makes him feel even sicker, it paralyzes him. It is probably due to the fact that he can feel the person alive, the pulsing of their blood in their artery, and the warmness of it and the body, yeah, he can not do that. He can drink out of blood pocket, the one thing Minho promised he would always make up for. Seungmin will make sure Minho will never see the end of this.
Minho did leave some indications on how he gets the blood pockets usually, the hospital he goes to and how he gets in it but contrary to Minho, Seungmin has a conscience and maybe a faint reminder of a soul. Or maybe Seungmin has not been a vampire for long enough (just a few decades, not even a century). Anyway, he is not strong enough to do all this and now he is thinking about all the humans that could die because of him stealing some blood.
Seungmin takes a moment to realize that his canines are puncturing his lower lips, blood drips out of it. His senses are all over the place now. He does not hear the door opening, but he hears the pulse of blood running in a human body and the sound of his heart beating, it makes him crave with thirst and hunger and disgusts him at the same time, chills going down his spine. He does not control it when he jumps on the poor person that has just gotten out of the hospital.
The person screams when they both fall down the floor and he only hears them like their voices are an echo because all he hears is the blood. There is no control left in his own body, just hearing himself at the very back of his mind crying because he hates it so much, hates losing any kind of control, hates hearing blood like that, but there is nothing he can do about that.
As he can see himself getting closer and closer to that poor person throat, himself is experimenting an outer body experience, he hears the person scream and he feels them fight back the weight over them, helplessly because even running out on his last forces he is still stronger and faster than this human person could ever be.
"Please don't do that," the person implores under him, "Lee Minho sent me here!"
The name acts like an electro shock for Seungmin although he does not let go of his grip, because damn this human smells so delicious and he is so hungry he cant think, and his fangs are out. However his vision refocuses a little and he sees behind him a young boy, probably around his age (when he got turned.. at least), with black hair tied on a bun on his head, a medical white coat and a terrorising expression on his face. Seungmin feels so bad and so hungry, it feels like he is going insane.
"What?" He stutters.
It is ridiculous how hard it is to speak like that.
"Lee Minho?" The person says again, "if you let go of me I promise I got the... thing you're looking for."
It takes everything, absolutely everything in Seungmin to be able to do as said, but he still manages to get off them. Very quickly they crawl away from him, it still feels very bitter to be the reason of someone's else fear, Seungmin thinks. The person searches in their lab coat pocket and then takes something out of it. Seungmin recognises the blood pockets that Minho usually stock in their fridge.
"Please dont bite me," the person whispers, handing out the blood pockets.
Seungmin considers them still on the ground in front of him, curled up over themselves only their arm extending. They are looking at him with pleading eyes. He takes a step forward and they curl up even more, he sighs and very quickly takes the blood pockets. He does not even bother and bites into the plastic immediately.
He lets out a content sigh when he feels finally the energy coming back in his body and the fog in his brain finally lifting up. Once he is done with the first pocket he gets back to his senses and suddenly realises that the person he had just attacked is still staring at him in the exact same position as before.
"I'm sorry," he mutters.
He feels ashamed of himself now. He does not know this person at all and he probably just gave them the worst fear of their life.
"Its okay," they answer although nothing in voice sounds like they are okay, "Minho warned me it could happen."
Seungmin rolls his eyes.
"You do that often?" He wonders.
"Only for Minho."
Seungmin swallows down the amount of inappropriate questions he has in his mind, although he is almost sure Minho's current boy toy's name is Jisung.
"He gives me money," he adds quickly.
"That's... okay?"
"I just didnt want you to assume stuff. He flirts a lot but it's not like that."
Seungmin stares. He can hear their heart beating faster.
"Okay," he says again.
He also notes that the stranger is very cute. Scrap that brain, he pesters at himself. The person stands up suddenly.
"I gotta go back to work."
Seungmin stops sipping on his blood pocket, "you work here?"
"Yeah, how do you think I get these?"
"But..."
They shrug, "I need the money. And you need food or else you'll do exactly what you just did to me. And its fucking scary."
"Right. Thanks."
"I'm Hyunjin by the way."
"Seungmin," he stutters.
"Well.. so, maybe I'll see you around?"
Seungmin is not sure exactly what this question involves exactly but it makes him smile slightly, "yeah. Sure."
Hyunjin smiles and waves him goodbye and goes back inside the hospital.
Maybe, just maybe, Seungmin does not hate Minho as much as usual today.

Carrier
Sonar
<< first | previous | masterlist | next >>
Stray Kids Urban fantasy AU (feat. Ateez from time to time) | A “carrier service” exists, seemingly only to get people (usually women) home safe after the trains stop running.
Heavy on bad boys with hearts of… some kind of shiny metal, probably.
Warnings: smutty stuff [fingering (f rec), the inherent eroticism of vampires], toxic masculinity but make it mystical.
=====
Hyunjin could not believe his luck. His day to day, or - more accurately - night to night, searches for a willing donor weren't exactly difficult. Even before his little accident, he hadn't had much trouble picking up. But afterwards? He could convince anyone of anything.
Not that he liked to. He was a monster, but he wasn't completely without morals. He avoided using his tricks unless it was absolutely necessary.
Sure, the standard he held himself to was low, but at least it existed.
Which made the current situation all the better.
He didn't know why the woman under his hands and against his body was so hot, or why she smelled so strongly of roses, but it just made him all the more hungry.
He groaned as her fingers slid into his hair, tugging slightly as the two of them moved approximately in time with the beat of the dance mix blaring through the club.
Hyunjin bent forward, pressing his lips against her neck. She rewarded him with a stuttered curse. Smiling into her skin, he let his hands slide down her sides, toying with the hem of her top.
"I just want to eat you up," he murmured.
He felt the vibration of her moan more than he heard it. It made him press himself more firmly against her. He slipped one hand under her top, splaying his fingers out to feel more of her just a little too hot skin. Carefully, he hooked his pinky into her waistband.
Maybe that's what made her start trembling. Or maybe it was his other hand, now cupping her chin, pressing just ever so lightly against her throat.
"Will you let me?" Hyunjin asked, nipping at the skin of her neck. He was drowning in her floral smell now, tasting roses and vanilla on her skin.
She nodded. More than that, she let one of her hands fall to his wrist, pushing his lower hand even further downwards.
Hyunjin groaned again, willingly allowing her to guide his hand.
"Right here sweetheart? You want me to take you in front of all these people?"
She was practically throwing herself at him, but he was begging for it anyway.
"Let's go somewhere a little more private," Hyunjin suggested.
It wasn't that he didn't like the idea of showing off. He just didn't want any interruptions or witnesses.
"Where?" She asked, sounding breathless.
"Follow me sweet thing."
=====
"Give me something Seungmin!"
Felix was scanning the crowd inside Sonar. He cursed his inability to hone in on scents like Jisung or Changbin.
His talents were a little more… ephemeral and vague. Given that Spring was only just starting, he was nowhere near the top of his game. Still, he could sense that something was off.
"Do you know how many fucking people are in that club right now? Give me a minute for christ's sake."
Seungmin was right. Felix knew he was right. He took a deep breath, trusting the nerd on the other end of the phone call to do his thing.
Still, he watched the crowd intently. Taking another deep breath, he shut his eyes and desperately tried to remember what she had been wearing.
He cursed his stunted senses. Compared to the others, he was the worst option to track someone down. He had just wanted to take a little bit of the heat off of Jisung, and no way in hell was he about to involve Changbin.
"Seungmin, I need something. I don't see her anywhere."
"I am trying, okay?"
Felix groaned. He didn't know why or how, but he was certain that he needed to get some sort of explanation to Little Turtle tonight. If not tonight, then certainly before she had to call for a carrier again.
"God damn it, I'm such a fucking idiot!"
"What's up?" Seungmin asked.
"Her phone number is literally in the system," something else occurred to Felix as he spoke, "and you have the ring map!"
"That only works if she's wearing it," Seungmin pointed out.
"Check it anyway. And send me her number."
Felix disconnected the call, and waited.
=====
Tempawan allowed herself to be led out of a side exit. Had she not been so focused on the man leading the way, she would have noticed the “authorized personnel only" sign.
But at the moment, she was shameless. In the purest form of the word: without shame. She knew that relief from her strange fever was only moments away.
She quickened her pace just a bit when he pushed the door open. Surging forward, she pressed her lips against his.
They stumbled out, into the back alleyway, lips and limbs intertwining further with each passing moment.
"I don't know how adventurous you usually are," Hyunjin mumbled against her lips, "but I am really tired of waiting, sweetheart."
"Then don't wait."
Hyunjin didn't typically like mixing food with pleasure. It wasn't really his style. It felt childish to him in some way.
But when the meal was so eager, who was he to deny that hedonistic streak?
"Then don't wait” the words echoed in his brain.
Hyunjin groaned, biting at her lip in another kiss before speaking up.
"Are you sure? I'll have you right here if you let me."
"Fuck," she panted, losing herself in the way his fingers were slowly sliding up her thigh, under her skirt, "please. Give me everything."
=====
“Pick up pick up pick… fuck!” Felix cursed at the pre-recorded voicemail greeting. It hadn’t even rang. Desperate for help, he decided to call in back-up.
At least this call rang. It was quickly answered as well.
“Hey,” Jisung sounded so casual it made Felix a little jealous, “how’d the talk go?”
“I can’t find her.”
There was a beat of silence while Jisung thought of something suitably vague to say.
“I mean it’s a big place…”
Felix huffed, shaking his head.
“It feels wrong. Do you think you could come and… you know,” he hated to lean on stereotypes, but here he was, “smell her?”
“How does it feel wrong? What’s going on?”
Felix felt like crying. Fighting down the frustrated tears that threatened to well up in his eyes, he cleared his throat.
“I don’t know! I just…" he took a breath, "it feels wrong. Something is wrong and I don’t know what it is. I don't know how to help.”
“Woah, hey,” Jisung tried his best to sound comforting, “don’t worry about it, okay? I’m on my way. Five minutes, okay?”
“Okay.”
Felix didn’t waste any time making his third call.
“Please tell me you have literally anything for me, Seungmin.”
“Her phone is dead,” Seungmin responded, “last pinged location was inside Sonar. And it looks like she isn’t wearing the ring.”
“Fucking hell!”
Seungmin kept quiet. Felix was typically the calm one. The one who could get the others to relax. Seungmin had never seen, or rather, heard him like this before.
Felix took deep breaths, trying to recompose himself before speaking again.
“Listen, pretend I’m Chan for a second, okay?”
“Okaaayyy?”
“Fucking find her,” he spat out the words, “and get me that fucking ring.”
"How am I suppo-"
Felix hung up on Seungmin.
=====
"You're so wet for me sweetheart."
Hyunjin had Tempawan facing the wall, one hand braced against the bricks, the other two digits deep inside her.
"Please," she begged, trying to keep somewhat quiet, "please please please please…"
"Don't you worry sweetness," Hyunjin whispered into her ear, "I'll give you everything you need."
Her knees buckled. Despite her increased appetite as of late, this was different. This man somehow was making her a complete mess. The others were usually so busy chasing their own release that she often left feeling unsatisfied, even as her temperature evened out.
But this man…
"Fuck," she whimpered, "I'm… please…"
"You're okay sweet girl," his voice dripped directly into her ear, "just cum once before we really start."
It didn't take much longer for exactly that to happen. Hyunjin felt it all. The tightness around his fingers, the jerk of her body against his. He bit his lip, enjoying the sounds she made as she slammed her hands against the bricks in front of them.
"You did so well," he kissed her shoulder, letting her catch her breath, "so good for me sweetheart."
Tempawan lifted her head, tilting back to settle the back of her head into the crook of his neck. She heard him groan, pressing his lips against her own neck.
"Can you keep going, sweetness?"
"Yes," she was still breathing heavily, but she needed more to satisfy the icy feeling under her skin, "please…"
"Perfect," he withdrew his hand from under her skirt. Carefully, not wanting to leave any residue on the outside of her clothing, he lifted it to his lips.
Tempawan turned her head and watched, a little in awe of the way he was enjoying himself. The way he was enjoying her.
"Good god sweetheart," he whispered after sucking his fingers clean, "did you know you taste like vanilla ice cream?"
And roses, he thought to himself.
"Are you willing to let me have more of you, sweet girl?"
"Please," she was willing to beg for it if she had to, but she suspected that she didn't.
Hyunjin gripped her waist, turning her now to face him.
"What a goddess you are," Hyunjin whispered. "Do you mind just a bit more foreplay, sweetness? I'm a bit of a biter."
"It's fine," she breathed, tensely waiting to feel him. "Bite as hard as you like. I just need you t- fuck."
He didn't need to be told twice. Leaning forward, he entered her, in more ways than one. In the only way that truly matters to a vampire, he entered her. Feeling the shock run through her body, he groaned as he felt her tighten around him.
Dipping his fingers back under her skirt, he felt her twitch around his digits again. Clamping onto her shoulder, his fangs broke her skin easily. He didn't know which sensation was more responsible for how she jerked against him.
At first, it was perfect. Roses and vanilla beans, silk and nectar.
Then something hit Hyunjin’s throat. A grassy taste that he knew was not hers.
That’s fine, he thought, I’m not the arbiter of her relationships.
=====
Jisung pushed through the crowd, tracing the faint trail of familiar mangosteen and… something less familiar, like a minty, fruity cocktail.
Chan followed close behind.
Jisung had tried to create a good enough excuse to stop Chan from coming along, but given the choice between Chan and Changbin, this had seemed like the better option.
Felix brought up the rear, feeling knots in his stomach as they moved. Despite the crush of bodies, there was a distinct chill that Felix felt the further they walked.
Jisung paused, reorienting himself. He knew what it looked like, but he didn’t care. There was something about that minty scent that was familiar, and it made him nervous.
“What’s wrong?” Chan asked as Jisung swiveled his head, trying to catch the direction of the smell.
“There’s a lot going on just…” Jisung closed his eyes, concentrating. A second later, his eyes opened again, shining a brighter yellowish color, “that way.”
=====
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!”
Hyunjin’s eyes opened, lifting to see Jisung staring at him and Tempawan. He couldn’t help but smile, teeth still buried into her neck.
Then he saw Chan and Felix.
Quickly, he released his jaw’s grip on her.
“It’s just a hickey,” he whispered into Tempawan’s ear as he maneuvered behind her to face the others. “So you’re the one she belongs to, huh?”
She giggled, then shook her head. Eyes landing on Jisung, she smiled slowly. She felt incredibly warm and… snuggly? God I’d love a nap.
“You’re a real… fuck…”
Her knees buckled.
“Felix!” Chan called.
“On it!”
Jisung could have reached her first, but he was busy being held back by Chan. Hyunjin watched the four of them. Felix, tending to Tempawan with the knowledge of a field medic and the bedside manner of a therapist. Chan, barely struggling to hold back an increasingly feral Jisung. Jisung, working himself up and ranting.
“That’s the motherfucker Chan! I should have killed him! Let me the fuck go!”
“Not happening.”
Hyunjin could have left, but the fact that Chan was there had piqued his interest enough to stick around. For now at least.
“If it makes you feel better,” Hyunjin offered, “I wasn’t planning on killing her.”
“You could have fooled me,” Felix muttered before turning towards Chan and Jisung, “we need to get her to Minho.”
“I will end you!” Jisung was tearing at Chan’s hand. Literally, he could feel it in his bones. The ache was starting. His jaw ached with the slow elongation, and his voice was getting hoarse and deeper. “Let me go!”
“No,” Chan said, paying no attention to the claws digging into his skin. Readjusting his grip on Jisung, he locked the slowly transforming man against himself with one arm. Chan dug his other hand into the inner pocket of his suit jacket. He pulled out his cell phone.
"I think I'll just be going," Hyunjin nervously chuckled and started shuffling backwards.
Chan didn’t look up as he searched through his recent calls.
"Lix, can yo-"
"Got it," the blonde responded. He slammed a hand against the ground and his eyes fluttered shut.
Call Hyunjin a cat, because he was certain that one day his curiosity would get him killed. He already knew what Jisung was, and he had an idea about Chan. But the soft looking blonde one? He had no clue.
He didn't even notice the tendrils of roots that were winding around his ankles. Not until they constricted, causing him to lose his balance.
"You need to get over here…" Chan spoke into his phone, "make an excuse… Jisung needs your pills…"
To his credit, Jisung was still giving his all to get out of Chan's grip. He was well into the non-verbal stage now. His hands were closer to paws, which actually made it easier for Chan to hold him.
"Sonar, back alley… oh, give yourself an extra dose on your way… LT is here."
He dropped the phone back into his pocket.
"Felix? Can you keep an eye on Jisung?"
=====
Changbin stood up, sighing dramatically. To all the world, he looked like a man who had been called in to do inventory. Internally, he was panicking.
"Seems like they need an extra hand," he made the excuse easily enough. Half-truths were simple like that.
Hongjoong, who would describe himself as currently being in his cups, let out an annoyed sound.
"Sure, just take all the eye-candy away. First that girl, then Felix, now Bin."
"Hyung…" Mingi groaned.
"Sorry man," Changbin chuckled, "sounds pretty serious though."
Yunho stood as well, much to Seonghwa's annoyance.
"You need an extra hand?"
Changbin shook his head, pulling his coat on.
"No, nothing like that," he pulled out his wallet and dropped some bills on the table, "we've got a system. Anyway, that should cover a few rounds. Might be back later."
Changbin forced himself to move casually as he left.
"Mingi," Seonghwa spoke softly, just loud enough to get the younger man's attention, "how do you feel about espionage?"
=====
Chan had let Hyunjin go. Or rather, Chan had made Felix let him go. Or rather, Felix had begrudgingly followed Chan’s order to let him go. Hyunjin nervously kept an eye on the wolf that was now tangled in city-toughened roots as Chan led him to the open end of the alley.
"It seems like you know one of my boys."
It wasn't phrased as a question, but Hyunjin knew when he was being interrogated.
"Know is a strong word," Hyunjin explained, "we run into each from time to time."
Chan tilted his head, looking as unbothered as anything. He reached into his jacket again, this time pulling out a simple black cigarette case.
Hyunjin noted the silver reinforcements on the corners of the case. Old, probably expensive when it was made, and even more so now.
Hyunjin glanced up and down the alley, wondering how far he would make it if he made a run for it.
"I wouldn't recommend it," Chan interrupted his thoughts.
Hyunjin didn't recall Chan lighting his cigarette, but there it was.
"Jisung doesn't willingly change very often."
"Honest to god," Hyunjin sighed, "I don't know what his problem is. He's got some kind of grudge."
Chan nodded. He believed what Hyunjin was saying. Or at least, he believed that Hyunjin believed what he was saying.
"I won't blame you if you don't want the job. Cohesion is the goal, but I'll settle for civility."
"Not to be an asshole," Hyunjin couldn’t help but huff, "but that's more on him than me. I barely know the guy. As far as I know, he just hates vampires."
=====
"Sorry man," Felix muttered towards Jisung.
Jisung growled in response. If not for the somewhat muddy tendrils wrapped around his snout, he would have snapped at him.
When Chan and Hyunjin had walked a bit further down the alley to talk, Felix was left to tend to Tempawan and keep an eye on Jisung.
Not that Felix had to do much. Tempawan was stable enough for the moment, and Jisung was immobilized.
"Do you know that guy?" Felix asked.
Jisung huffed, then whined. He wriggled in his earthy bindings, snuffling as he tried to get closer to Tempawan.
"She'll be 'right mate," Felix reassured him.
=====
"You have got to be fucking kidding me!"
Jisung couldn't exactly laugh, but his tail twitched at the way Changbin unknowingly mimicked him upon his arrival.
"Changbin, relax…"
Chan held a hand against Changbin’s chest. Changbin was keeping a remarkable amount of calm, all things considered. He was barely trying to get around Chan.
"Re… relax? Do you know who this motherfucker is?"
"We've talked."
"Oh! Oh, you've talked!" Changbin balked, "I see, I mean as long as you've talked I guess that's fine."
Hyunjin kept silent, mentally cataloging people he had possibly wronged to be called a motherfucker twice in thirty minutes.
"Just go help Felix."
For the first time, Changbin actually took in the scene at the other end of the alleyway. The little remaining calm he had dissipated as soon as his mind processed what he saw.
He took a step towards the three figures on the ground, then turned to look at Hyunjin.
"What did you do?"
Hyunjin was mesmerized by the green that sprung up in one of Changbin’s irises. It was a shade he knew all too well.
"I… nothing…" Hyunjin wasn't used to feeling off-balance.
"She's fine," Chan answered the real question. "Go help Felix and Jisung."
"She better be more than fine," Changbin growled, casting Hyunjin a lingering and exceptionally dirty look, "or it won't matter how much you two have talked."

"This is my sister."
The words hang in the air, heavy with the weight of revelation and disbelief.
"Wait, what?" Chan is the first to react. He shoots up from his seat, his eyes darting between Lyra and you, disbelief etched across his features. He begins to pace around Lyra, as if inspecting her for any signs of deception.
Hyunjin, never one to waste time, swiftly moves to restrain her. His fingers curl around her throat, and panic wells up within you. Instinctively, you rush to her defense, your heart pounding in your chest, but then, something in Hyunjin's gaze stops you. He holds out his other arm behind him, a silent plea in his eyes, asking you for permission to continue, to trust him.
In that charged moment, you realize that Hyunjin, despite his cold exterior, is not driven by blind impulse. He is asking for your trust, your faith in his judgment. The room seems to freeze around us as emotions swirl in the air like a turbulent storm.
“You’re soaked.” You chuckle, “What did you guys do?”
“I can’t tell you that, it’s a secret, like between siblings.” Hyunjin chuckles, amused by your curiosity.  “Do you have any siblings, pretty witch?”
“I did…but we were separated when my parents were killed.”
You take a hesitant step back, your nervousness evident in the gulp that you can't suppress. Felix approaches Lyra from the other side, his brow furrowing with a mix of confusion and wonder. He tilts his head as if studying her as if she were an alien, a species he had never observed this closely before.
"How do we know this isn't a trick? A demon could pull something like this off," Jisung finally voices his doubts. While the brothers react more on instinct, their inner circle threatened by this unexpected reunion, he chooses to articulate his concerns. After all, these people were your siblings in all but blood, and this stranger's sudden appearance raised questions of authenticity.
"This is definitely a wolf, that much I'm sure of," Hyunjin's lips twitch, his fangs momentarily exposed.
"Of course, I'm a wolf, you dead piece of shit," Lyra retorts, her voice strangled as Hyunjin's grip tightens. Yet, Felix's hand gently rests on his forearm, urging him to soften it a little. Hyunjin complies, his shoulders relaxing, but he maintains his guard.
“Your parents were killed by hybrids, out in the woods by Lake Carter, yeah?” Felix's tone remains serious.
Lyra blinks a few times, struggling to find her voice. Instead, she offers a slow nod, her chest heaving with increased effort. Felix steps back, shaking his head as he studies her from head to toe.
"The rogues that broke off from the Equinox clan to become hybrids and feed on vampires," Felix's mind races as realization dawns on him. "You were bitten that night..."
"Wh-what?" You stammer, "Nana said you were at your friend's house that night!"
"I was," Lyra admits, her voice soft and trembling. "Raina, she lived across the lake from the vacation house. They thought it would be easier than leaving all three of us with Nana."
Chan walks up to stand alongside Hyunjin, gently nudging his younger brother while nodding toward their captive wolf. Hyunjin reluctantly releases her, allowing her feet to fully touch the ground. She rubs her neck, taking in a deep breath, and then turns her gaze toward Chan, Hyunjin, Jisung, Felix, and you.
"I don't understand..." You speak up.
"Raina and I liked to have adventures. We were young, naive, stupid," Lyra begins, her voice carrying a hint of regret. "Nana told us about what was out there, but we lived in the city. We barely saw any of that. We were curious, I guess, and went out looking for adventure..."
"And you found it, in the form of being bitten by a rogue wolf under a full moon. So why come back to stay with the clan?"
“Cause I brought her in.” Leo's voice reverberates through the room, drawing the attention of everyone present. He stands at the foot of the stairs, arms crossed and his expression stern. "Whether she liked it or not, she was a wolf, and a part of our clan. She would've died out there, alone, if the pack hadn't found her. Now, come on, Lyra, we've got to prepare dinner." He gestures for her to follow him, and he hobbles up the stairs. She ducks her head and follows closely behind, and the hatch slowly closes, enveloping them in dimly lit darkness once more in the windowless basement.
"Felix, you just weren't going to tell me, tell any of us, that the Equinox clan are the ones that fucking killed Mariela and physically traumatized you?!" Your voice quivers with a torrent of emotions as you take a few steps toward the white-haired vampire. He watches you, his expression stoic, blank, and unmoved. It's unsettling when Felix is like this; it makes you feel like you're on the outside. He's carefully considering what to say, what he can say.
"You told Mother, you told us that you didn't know the name of the clan, that they kidnapped you, brother," Chan reminds Felix. He, too, begins to question the details of the story he was told so long ago. He vividly remembers risking his own life to let out their cattle, being the one to stand up for his brother who held this secret for centuries.
Every family has its secrets, but why lie about something like this?
"Because had I told our mother and father, they would've died chasing down the vengeance I wanted for myself," Felix finally snaps. His voice quivers, and he's literally shaking. "I waited years and years, I killed every Equinox rogue I found until I found them, that night..." His voice trembles on the fringes of insanity as he explains, "And I listened to them choke while I chewed on their windpipes, and to this day, I will never taste a revenge so sweet."
The room falls silent. Felix, realizing he's on the precipice of emotions he'd rather not face, turns away from everyone. He walks over to his sleeping bag, wordlessly picks up his book, and begins reading it again as a form of distraction. Nobody sensitive to the approaching Dawn could leave the basement; right now, the sun was either up or close to it.
"Okay, so now I can't sleep," Jisung says, sitting cross-legged on his sleeping bag.
"Take off your necklace; you'll be out in no time," Hyunjin comments, slinking into his sleeping bag and lying on his stomach, propping himself up on his elbows as he speaks.
"Not true. When I take it off, I actually get less sleep. It's like an ancestral chatroom in here every time I close my eyes without the thing."
Hyunjin squints in confusion. "A what room?"
Jisung delves into an elaborate metaphorical explanation, leaving you deep in thought. Chan notices your distant expression and pulls you aside, his features etched with concern. "Hey, are you alright?"
You let out a sigh, finally releasing the tension that had been building within you. "Yeah, I just... I'm in shock, you know? I hoped my siblings were out there, but now... I just have so many questions, and not nearly enough time to ask them."
"This is a really big deal, and if you need us to stay another day, little witch, we can make that happen."
You look down, your fingers absentmindedly rubbing your arm as you consider the idea of delaying the journey. "I don't know what I want."
Chan empathizes with you, his thumb gently stroking your cheekbone. "Don't you think she should know she's going to be an aunt?" He offers you a small smile, and it prompts a bittersweet chuckle from you. A couple of tears escape your eyes, which you quickly try to wipe away. "Aww, my little witch, and my even littler witch," he coos with a hint of sadness, pulling you into a tight hug. When he releases you, he gazes into your eyes, his hands resting firmly on your shoulders. "Go on, I'll be here when you get back. I won't even go into my death, I promise."
His gentle encouragement is enough to persuade you to ascend the stairs. You carefully open the hatch just enough to slip out and then close it tightly to keep the others below in darkness. Chan remains at the stairs, looking up at the sealed door, pondering how drastically life keeps taking sharp, unexpected turns. He always knew to expect the unexpected, but at this rate, he's left wondering who's going to show up next? What's going to happen next?
"Do you believe that story?" Hyunjin's voice cuts through Chan's thoughts. The eldest sibling descends the stairs and goes over to his own sleeping bag, sitting atop it, lost in thought. He glances at Felix, who has already succumbed to his daytime death, his body stiff and cold within his sleeping bag.
"I'm really not sure, Hyunjin," Chan admits. "I know just about as much as the little witch, apparently."
"Who knew Felix had that much anger in that little body?" Hyunjin chuckles, shaking his hair out of his face as he adjusts himself to lie on his back, hands crossed over his chest as he stares at the ceiling.
"Yeah, who knew..." Chan murmurs, tracing invisible patterns in the dirt floor pensively.
━━━━━━━━
You stand in the center of the room, feeling oddly out of place as the pack congregates in hushed conversations. When you emerged from the basement, a few of them left, their curiosity or distrust leading them elsewhere. Among the wolves present, Lyra, Leo, and two others remain. Lyra's gaze falls upon you, a mixture of concern and hesitation shimmering in her eyes. She doesn't know what to expect from you; you share blood, but you're practically strangers now. Would you side with the fiery red-haired vampire and his suspicions? There are others in the room, too, and their identities and your purpose in traveling to Abysmora are shrouded in mystery.
"Y/N, what have you gotten yourself into?" Lyra voices her thoughts aloud, partially by accident, as you approach her. Leo regards you suspiciously but remains silent, sitting across the table from Lyra, granting you privacy for the impending interaction. Her voice quivers with emotion as she rises to embrace you once more. You laugh, tears of happiness now streaming down your face as you hug her tightly. Leo quietly excuses himself, leading the other two wolves outside, leaving you two alone.
"Hold on..." Lyra takes a step back, her hands gently cupping the firm roundness of your tummy through your tight embrace. Her eyes reflect those of your mother, and you wonder if others can see the same resemblance in your eyes. "Are you pregnant?"
You cast your gaze downward at your belly, still coming to terms with the surprise yourself. You cradle your hands around your rounded bump. "I guess I am," you admit, your nerves palpable.
"You guess?" Lyra's voice carries a mixture of surprise and amusement. "I knew I smelled something, but I couldn't place it. It didn't make sense."
You pull a face. "You can smell it? Like, my body?"
Lyra laughs softly, her eyes dancing with newfound knowledge. "Your scent changes when you're pregnant, subtle shifts in your pheromones. I can smell things like that now," she says, tapping her nose with confidence. You both share a lighthearted giggle as she reaches across the table, enveloping your hands in hers. "There's so much I want to say, I just don't know where to start," Lyra admits, her gaze sweeping around the room as if seeking guidance. Finally, she looks up at you and asks, "Why are you going to Abysmora?"
With a deep breath, you begin to recount your journey, revealing the complex web of events that led you to this moment. Lyra listens with unwavering attention, her eyes widening with each revelation.
"So, we have one more stop before we get to Abysmora," you conclude. "Santiago told us the pack would lead us across the territory to the next drop-off point. I just never expected it to be you."
Lyra exhales deeply, a whirlwind of thoughts racing through her mind.
"I don't know about the others, but that redhead... I don't like him."
You chuckle, sinking back into your chair as you feel the tension dissipating. "I didn't like Hyunjin at first either. But can you blame him? He was in purgatory for almost a thousand years. When you win his trust, he's loyal, and actually really funny sometimes, too."
"I smelled another wolf, but there was so much vampire funk I could barely make it out. So he's the one that's the father, huh? The wolf vampire one?" Lyra's still in the process of piecing things together, her mind tracing back to the basement.
"Yes, his name is Chris, but some of us call him Chan. That's his Korean name," you respond, leaning forward and lowering your voice. "And he can hear very, very well, and he's still awake downstairs."
Lyra matches your hushed tone, leaning in closer. "If you're having his child, that makes me the aunt, and we're family now, so I don't give a damn what he hears." She nods with an exaggerated smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling. You playfully swat at her, her sharp tongue and attitude mirroring your own.
She deftly dodges your playful assault with a hearty laugh. "My goodness, Y/N, the life you've been living! It's something right out of a storybook..." Her voice trails off as she recalls the earlier encounter. "The white-haired vampire, what's his name again?"
"Felix."
"Yeah, him." You sense Lyra's mood shifting toward concern. "How did he know about...you know..." She can't bring herself to utter the words aloud.
You realize you've given her the general outline of what's transpired, but the gritty details and conversations have yet to be revealed. Some of them, you've decided, you'll intentionally keep to yourself.
After all, every family has its secrets.
"A long time ago, Felix was just a regular human witch," you begin, "and when he was younger, he fell in love with the daughter of some cult leader, a faction of your clan that broke off to become hybrids. I don't know the politics of it. They wanted to arrange a union, forced their mark on him, he escaped, and they murdered the daughter as a sacrifice to appease their twisted fucking god."
Lyra's eyes widen in horror. "Oh my goodness, they killed their own daughter?"
"You're part of this clan, and you didn't know?"
"I mean, I knew about the massacre of the Equinox by the hybrids, but I didn't know... What does that have to do with our parents?"
"Felix never got over it. He hunted them down and found them at Lake Carter, after they'd murdered a couple in a cabin, our parents.  He killed them, and pretty fucking viciously, but it was too late."
Lyra can hardly believe what you're revealing. She's transported back to that dreadful night, when she and Raina were wandering through the woods with their flashlights, the screams of their parents and the haunting howls breaking the silence of the night. She remembers running as fast as her legs could carry her, the terror gnawing at her heels, as if something was nipping at the straps of her backpack.
Her heart races, and she rises to her feet, clutching her chest with her hand.
"What's wrong?"
"I just...I need a moment. Information overload, you know?" She chuckles nervously, backing away and holding her head, as if experiencing sudden pain. Lyra turns away and hurries into a nearby room, closing the door behind her, which you hear lock shortly thereafter. The sound of running water from the sink reaches your ears as you cautiously approach the door, slowly.
Did you mess it all up? You had to tell her the truth, she deserved to know, didn’t she?
You tap your knuckles gently against the door.
"Yeah?" Lyra answers, her voice muffled as if her nose is stuffed, and the sound of running water comes to a halt.
You lean your temple against the wooden door, your knuckles resting against the wood. "I'm gonna get some rest. Pregnancy, it…takes a lot out of me," you say, your gaze drifting down to your growing belly. You twist your foot back and forth, a nervous habit, as you wait for her reply.
You straighten up as you hear the lock unlatch, and the door opens. Lyra's eyes are reddened, and the tip of her caramel brown nose appears irritated. She sniffs, stepping forward to envelop you in another embrace.
"I love you so much. I'm so glad we found each other again. I'm sorry; this is just a lot. Can we talk more tonight, after we both get some rest?" She steps back and looks into your eyes, her hands on your shoulders. You can feel your own emotions welling up again as you nod, and she pulls you into a tight hug.
After exchanging goodnight wishes, you return downstairs to the basement. Sure enough, everybody lies still, but Chan is sitting cross-legged on his sleeping bag, reading the cursebook that Felix had been so invested in. A source of immediate comfort, you scurry over to him, picking up the pace to cross the distance a little faster. You sit down and wrap your arms around his waist, laying your head on his shoulder as you hug him tightly.
He chuckles and closes the book, setting it down before wrapping his arms around you in return, holding you close, his head resting atop yours. "Well then, you seem chipper, how did it go?"
You sit up and look at him, “I think it went really well, but it was a lot for her, I could tell she had a ton of questions, but for some reason when we got to talking about our parents and Felix she got really worked up and left for the bathroom.”
“Hm,” Chan muses, “Did she know they were killed?”
You hesitate, “I don’t see how she couldn’t, she was there, in the woods, that’s how she got turned.”
“Maybe it makes her anxious? That’s pretty traumatic, and then finding out you’ve just met the guy responsible for killing the murderers? And he’s a vampire…travelling with your sister, that you haven’t seen in over a decade…” He motions that he could continue on and on, “D’you know what I mean? If I were a mortal, I’d be wrecked by that for a little while too.”
The corner of your mouth pulls your lips into a tight line, “But she’s a wolf?”
“And yet wolves are still mortals,” Chan says with a sad expression, “They grow old, and they die.”
You readjust yourself to sit shoulder to shoulder beside him as you watch Felix’s slumbering figure.  “Can I ask you something absolutely fucking ridiculous?”
He laughs, “And how do I answer you when you ask me that?”
“Oh right,”
“Always.” You two say simultaneously, sharing quiet laughter like close friends before the silence prompts you to actually ask your question.
“At the vampire den…why did you pick Felix instead of Hyunjin?”
Chan is quiet. You two hadn’t had a chance to talk about it since it happened, and with everything else going on, it just didn’t feel right to bring it up before.
“Well,” Chan starts, “For starters, I trust Felix to not murder you, or at least give me a little warning if he’s about to fall off the deep end.”
You nod in understanding, following along.
“Also, I know you two have become very close friends, you trust him too, I mean, would you have chosen Hyunjin instead?” He’s also watching his brother’s lifeless body across the room from where you two were.
“Absolutely not.” You say, which causes him to laugh.
“Right, that’s the logic I went with.”
There’s a bit of a pause between you both before he speaks up. “Why do you ask?”
You watch your words carefully; the last thing you want to do is trigger your hybrid into believing he’s some unnatural monster.
“I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t weird for you.” You say.
“Nope, was it weird for you?”
“No,” you laugh, “And that’s what’s weird because by the laws of humans, it should be weird.”
“By the laws of humans, you shouldn’t have come back from the dead,” he looks at you, a twinkle in his eyes, “My, isn’t it beautiful how we don’t have to go by them anymore?” He pinches halfway down one of your springy, black curls and pulls it up gently, letting it go and watching it bounce back into its natural coil. His eyes fall onto yours.
“Felix and I spoke afterward, don’t worry. He doesn’t think it was weird either.”
You know you won’t be involved anymore, but you still want to ask, you’re curious, and a little jealous, so you squeak, “How often do you guys like…go into those kinds of places?”
Chan can tell where you’re headed, “Well, my brothers and I don’t really indulge in those vampire dens anymore. Talking about hundreds, and I mean hundreds of years back, back when Hyunjin was around, we did it often. We were so driven by bloodlust, it was natural to just pass feeders back and forth, some of them barely hanging on to life.” He explains, “The more we mixed with humans, the less we gave in to those primal urges, until we learned to ignore them altogether.”
“But those urges are primal, right? They gotta be still lurking somewhere.”
Chan takes a moment to ponder, then shakes his head, “The need to feed communally doesn't really appeal to me these days. I don’t just ignore it; I flat out despise it. After I came back around that night, all I could think about was that pile of bodies Hyunjin had accumulated in such a short time.”
“Yeah, he’s a real... unique character,” you say, your gaze drifting over to the other lifeless body in a sleeping bag a few feet away from Felix’s. “But he’s trying, I can tell.”
“Yeah? You think so?” Chan says, impressed.
“Yeah, don’t you?”
“I can see it, I just don’t think he does. Hyunjin doesn’t give himself enough credit for the hard work, even before purgatory. Now, he’s had to dive deep into his darker side just to survive in purgatory; he's convinced that's all he is.” Chan says, “I'm genuinely worried about him.”
“Why’s that?”
“I dunno,” Chan says, narrowing his eyes, “I just have this feeling he'd sacrifice himself, just to end it all, but only if it meant the rest of us were safe.” He continues, “But Hyunjin doesn’t want you to know that, so the only way to catch him is to act like you don’t give a damn about what he’s up to. The moment he senses you’re watching him, bam,” Chan snaps his fingers, “He’ll flip the switch.”
“Won’t he hear you?”
Chan glances at you, a slight dimple forming on his cheek as his lips curl into a half-grin. “It's easy to forget you’re new to this,” he says, your innocence warming him in a way he’s not used to, deep in his gut. Chan feels an undeniable closeness to you right now. “They’re completely out of it right now. When they wake up, I’ll feel it—hard to explain, sort of like that feeling when you know you're not alone in a room? You sense another presence?”
“Yeah, I've felt that, even without conjure.”
“It’s kinda like that, but I don’t have to be in the same room to feel it,” Chan claps his hands together, and Jisung grumbles in his sleep, readjusting himself and turning over, pulling his sleeping bag further over his head. You stifle your giggle by clasping your hands over your mouth, and Chan joins you in a quiet chuckle, his hand covering his mouth too. He lowers his voice to a near whisper, “They can’t hear or feel anything right now. But their supernatural senses are razor-sharp, and they can spring to action in an instant if they sense danger. It’s a truly fascinating phenomenon.”
“And you? Are you the same? You always wake up when I’m having nightmares.”
“That’s because you’ve had so much of my blood, and I’ve had so much of yours, that I’m attuned to your body. I can feel when you feel fear, anger, or sadness. I’d say the more subtle emotions are harder to pinpoint, but my wolf goes dormant when I’m in my death.”
“Dormant? How?”
“My body relies on my vampire senses when I’m in my death. Even better, I can’t be sniffed out, making it harder to track me down.”
You yawn, and Chan shifts over, unzipping your sleeping bag that lies next to his. “Someone’s getting a bit sleepy,” he teases.
You groan, “I don’t wanna go to sleep, this is the first time in forever that we’ve been able to just enjoy each other.”
Chan laughs at your stubbornness.
I don’t want this night to end either, little witch.
He taps the sleeping bag, encouraging you to lie down. “I’ll even stay up and sing to you until you fall asleep. How’s that sound, baby girl?”
You turn to mush at the nickname and promptly settle into your sleeping bag, snuggling up and resting your head on your hybrid’s lap. He reclines on his arm, his other fingers gently stretching and releasing each curl of your hair, totally absorbed in the soothing rhythm of your heartbeat and the baby's in tandem.
Your eyes flutter open, and you look up at him with a quizzical expression. “You said you’d sing to me.”
Chan laughs, “My apologies! I got a little… sidetracked,” he grins, “Any song requests?”
“My Nana used to sing me to sleep every night. She would sing ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire’.”
He chuckles at the uniqueness of your request. “But it's October?”
“She sang it no matter the time of year,” you shrug, nestling even more snugly into his lap, “I don't know, something about it always made me feel safe.”
Chan massages your thick curls with the pads of his fingers, and you feel like a content lap puppy. The sensation is utterly calming.
“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire it is, then.”
━━━━━━━━
Felix regains consciousness first, as was often the case. The world and his place in it gradually return to him, and he slowly sits up, his senses reacquainting themselves with his surroundings—the scents in the air, the presence of people nearby. He spots the open hatch and, while he doesn't hear voices, the crackling of the fireplace upstairs reaches his ears. Quietly, he peels the sleeping bag off his lower half and vamp-speeds to the top of the stairs, cautiously poking his head up and around to survey the area before emerging fully.
The Equinox clan markings on the walls surround him, telling stories he couldn't decipher but carrying imagery that reverberates like a haunting echo from the past. He slips into the bathroom to freshen up for the evening, and his thoughts drift to his youth with Mariela.
Oh, to be that young and carefree again. The innocence of love experienced for the first time. Young love, untouched by the complexities of adulthood that rewires the mind. Devoid of the enigma that comes with living through centuries. To be able to run through fields of tall, wild grass in the sweltering summer heat, with the sun blazing in the sky above, each speckle on his face another memory of happier times basking in the sun.
Felix can appreciate that; the knowledge that his cherished summer moments will be etched onto his body for eternity.
He exits the bathroom, only to bump into Lyra, who seems to be heading in without checking if it's occupied. They stand face to face, speechless.
“You're Felix,” Lyra says, catching the silver-haired vampire off guard.
He doesn't show it.
“I am,” he replies, his voice resonating with profound depth.
“Thank you,” Lyra blurts out impulsively. She can barely hold eye contact with him. The way he regards her as if she's a peculiar rarity, with his head slightly tilted and his eyes scrutinizing her features. “For—you know—”
“Killing the murderers of your parents?” Felix vocalizes. He senses her discomfort at the mention of it. He doesn't want to upset her, but at the same time, he can't help but wonder if she might have been sent here, planted by Edith or one of her devout followers. It's too uncanny a coincidence for the little witch's sister to suddenly appear on their path to Abysmora, especially after the attempt on their lives at Lysandra's safehouse. “I didn't do it for you,” he admits, “But you're welcome.”
“Then why did you do it?”
The question halts Felix's departure. Lyra's expression is one of determination. Despite the underlying fear he still senses in her and the rapid rise of her pulse the longer he looks at her, she has a fire reminiscent of you, yet somehow distinct. Your fire is explosive and consuming, while hers feels like a slow burn, one that traps you when you least expect it, thinking it's safe to let your guard down.
“That's not really your concern,” Felix responds.
“I heard you were a witch,” Lyra tries once more to draw him into sharing more information, seeking closure for a chapter of her life that has always eluded her. “What changed?”
Felix shoots her a sidelong glance, now genuinely irritated. “You were once a witch, weren't you? Vampires can't perform conjure.”
“I'm still a witch, excuse you.”
Now she has his undivided attention. Felix tilts his head, perplexed. “That's impossible.”
“Says who?”
“Says the laws of bloody supernatural nature. Witch blood is nullified, except in specific cases like demons.” He explains, reciting from years of meticulous research.
“You're not only wrong, you're passionately wrong,” Lyra chuckles. “Where there's a will, there's a way.”
“Stop talking in circles, will you?” Felix says, briefly breaking his stoicism. He regains his composure swiftly. “How are you able to conjure as a wolf?”
“Any creature born to a witch parent has magic, but depending on your lineage, you might need to awaken it,” Lyra explains. “And it's not a matter of splashing cold water on your face; you have to sacrifice yourself and spend four seasons buried underground.”
Felix shakes his head. “I don't understand, sacrifice myself?”
“I just had to slit my throat, but you... you'll have to stab yourself through the heart with a wooden stake. You vampires are tougher to put an end to than we are, unfortunately.”
“You're mad, you're telling me to commit suicide. No vampire has been staked and lived to talk about it. Besides, just because it worked for you doesn't mean it'll work for me.” The idea sounds absurd, but Felix is definitely going to thoroughly investigate it.
Damn it, I don't have anything out here except that cursebook.
For now, he's stuck relying on Lyra's information. It's the first time he's heard of such a thing, and he doesn't need to attempt it to learn more.
“It worked for someone I knew a long time ago, a hybrid. He had to rip out his own heart from his chest. He was dead; I put him in the ground myself and covered his body. The next autumn, he came back, his clothes chewed through by insects. I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.”
Lyra has just become significantly more intriguing, and capturing Felix's attention can be a perilous gift. On one hand, you're on the receiving end of his unwavering focus, but on the other, you also become the object of his obsession when he veers into the realm of neuroticism.
“A hybrid?”
“Vampire and wolf. His father was a witch; the blood was in his veins—he just hadn't awakened it yet.”
Felix looks down, contemplating whether or not to allow the conversation to continue. Finally, he looks back up at Lyra, his eyes fixating on her neck. Something dawns on him. He can hear the blood, but it's not overpowering his thoughts. He's been standing here for a while now, and that insistent craving to devour... it's something he keeps restrained, but it's not even there. His thoughts are his own, clear and calculated, not the result of a blood demon whispering in his ear, coaxing him to kill.
It's almost... peaceful.
The thought of drinking her blood is actually somewhat repulsive, to be frank. He has tasted wolf blood when tearing through their bodies to murder them, and it was always bitter and pungent, like licking the floor of a barn. However, blood from a living mortal is blood from a living mortal, and in a pinch, it can suffice.
“Hey, bloodsucker,” Lyra snaps, “Eyes are up here, got it? You won't be taking any bites out of me.”
Felix's upper lip twitches. “I don't really want to,” he says slowly.
“Good. That makes two of us.”
━━━━━━━━
“So, how does it feel to be reunited with your sister, pretty witch?” Hyunjin inquires, shifting his weight from foot to foot and flicking his cigarette. His arms are crossed over his chest, and his hoodie is zipped up, the hood concealing his head. Two tufts of red hair at his bangs graze over his eyebrows.
His hair is getting longer.
And still, unrelentingly, the brightest of reds.
The others are in the process of packing everything, with Chan supervising, unloading some items to be left behind as their journey nears its culmination. They will need to rely more on their physical strength than on fully loaded backpacks. Chan follows Jisung outside onto the porch, and they both start sorting through the backpacks on the ground.
You and Hyunjin stand by where the trees demarcate the edge of the forest, their leaves barely brushing against the moonlight.
“It feels really good, but also really strange. What happens from here? I’m not making this trip just to see her again; we almost died—like—a few times.”
“If the pack's been up here as long as they say, she knows her way around.”
“So, what? She risks her life every time we have an annual visit?”
“You do that sometimes,” Hyunjin acknowledges with a nod as he takes another hit, “with family, especially in our world.”
Chan's earlier concerns echo in your mind as Hyunjin mentions self-sacrifice.
You watch him as he takes a drag, tilting his pouty lips skyward to blow the smoke away from you. The slice of moonlight through the trees accentuates the sharpness of his jawline.
“Hyunjin, you don't really think we're gonna die, right?” You can feel the idiocy of the question as soon as it escapes your lips. Nonetheless, he ponders it, deeming it valid and contemplating the possible challenges you all might encounter. Hyunjin has battled demons ranging from the size of kittens, swarming him and tearing his flesh with their razor-sharp teeth, to giants that dwarf him, slamming him against walls with a single sweep of their enormous arms. He glances over at Chan and Jisung; his older brother is talking while Jisung listens intently, a look of concentration on his face as he nods and occasionally adds his thoughts.
Hyunjin taps the cigarette, and ashes sprinkle onto the dirt below. “This is my last cigarette,” he declares, holding it between his fingers and studying it, the burning orange end nearing the filter at the opposite end. He drops it onto the ground below, extinguishing it.
“We probably won't die.”
And you believe him.
━━━━━━━━
Lyra steps outside, her packmates spilling out and gathering at the forest's edge, chattering like athletes preparing for a tournament. She notices Chan kneeling down, rummaging through a backpack, nodding in approval, and muttering to himself. Lyra takes a moment to study him, with his shaggy hair and all-black attire, the brim of his hat pulled low. He moves on to the next backpack, extracting a small wooden box of herbs.
"Hey," she says, stepping down off the porch to join him.
Chan places the box back into the backpack, stands up, and dusts off his hands. "Sorry I haven't had a chance to introduce myself; this is all so unexpected," he says, extending a hand. "I'm—"
"Chris, yes. I've heard a little about you." Lyra shakes his hand before taking a deep breath, clasping her hands together. "So, you and my sister—"
"Me and your sister...?" Chan waits for her to continue, and when she doesn't, he chuckles, inviting her to follow suit. It's all a bit awkward, and she's relieved that he seems to realize it too.
"Congrats?" She offers, still unsure how it happened, considering he's technically...dead.
"Thanks, it's been a journey. Still figuring it out, but yeah... you ready to be an aunt?"
"I think so?" Lyra laughs. "Is she a wolf? Do you guys..."
"Not too sure of the species yet, but we know she's a witch, though."
Jisung catches the tail end of their conversation as he returns, stuffing a few more items into his backpack and removing others. He tightens the straps, ostentatiously tugging at the strings to avoid being caught eavesdropping. He still hasn't told you or Chan that the baby is a wolf-witch hybrid.
Maybe it's best they find out on their own, he thinks to himself.
"Uh oh, girl dad!" Lyra teases.
Chan raises his brows, his eyes widening as he sighs. "Yeah, I'm, ah, gonna have to let little witch take the reins, or I'm killing every boy that looks at her."
"Come on, you're really gonna go murdering some kids?"
"Ah, you know, I do have the most humanity left out of my brothers," Chan nods, looking up as he comes up with a different plan. "Her Uncle Hyunjin can take care of it."
Lyra feigns offense as she shoves him, and they both share a laugh. "Okay, but my dad was the same way, and he was a witch! He would do little things, like making spiders fall out of their mouths, knocking them off their bikes. Guys were terrified of me! They thought I was bad luck or something."
Chan has rarely heard you discuss your parents, but when they died, you mentioned how young you had been. Lyra was older than you by a few years, well into her teenage years when your parents were murdered.
"Ha, I like the way he thinks. More subtle," Chan says, pulling his backpack over his shoulders.
"Oh, hold on, let me—" Lyra steps behind him, fixing and tightening the straps. It gives her a moment to ponder another question. "You called her a little witch? Felix said that earlier when he referred to her. Is that, like, a thing?" she asks.
"Yeah, I guess I sort of started that," he says, rubbing the back of his neck with a bashful smile. "I said it because I didn't know her name at the time..." Chan's mind starts to drift back to the first night he encountered you at the mausoleum.
"That's so sweet. You guys are like... a family," Lyra remarks. The more she converses with the brothers and hears the way they speak about you, the more she can see the depth of their affection for you, an unlikely bond formed among different beings.
"Not me, I'm more like a cat... I just come for the food and then I go back to my actual home," Jisung chimes in, finally joining the conversation with his usual humor. He places an enthusiastic hand around Chan's upper forearm.
"You ready?"
