Week 01 Maya Notes
Aet 326 Digital Production Art 3D:  
Week 01 maya notes To Do List:  1. download maya:  autodesk.com/education
2. create your class process blog (tumblr, blogspot, wordpress, etc)
3. Get comfortable navigating in maya, and create at least one abstract design using primitive polygonal geometry for practice
-Camera Navigation: rotate: alt + lmb (left mouse button)
pan: alt + mmb (middle mouse button) zoom: alt + rmb (right mouse button)
-navigating between cameras: hit space bar to move in and out of 4 panel view-or,
 to move to a different camera: go to the panels menu to select the desired perspective or orthographic camera that you would like to move to.-
F: frame selected -A: frame all
-ctrl+ alt +click and drag= zoom into marquee
Q: select tool.
Object Appearance
4: wireframe5: unshaded
6: textured
7: preview lights. (if no lights are in scene, then silhouette of your scene will be shown)
Transform Tools:-
Move tool: W-
Rotate Tool: E -Scale Tool: R
-change pivot point:= insert (pc) home (mac).  or just hold the “D” key -importing an image plane> go to desired orthographic camera: view>image plane> import image-
Duplicate: Ctrl + D 
Duplicate with transform: shift + D.  
object mode: the entire object-component mode: part of the object, such as faces, edges, vertices,F8= switch between object and component mode Right click on your object to select an object’s components, such as faces, vertices, edges, object mode-
center pivot: modify> center pivot.Delete History: edit>delete by type> history.
-How to make a custom shelf button: ctrl +shift + click on desired menu item.
Modifying your mesh:-with vertices selected, you may use the arrow keys to navigate your selection up down and around your mesh
Most of the modeling tools are in the polygons dropdown section.
Edit Mesh> insert edge loop tool.
Edit mesh> interactive split tool.
Edit mesh> extrude (you can extrude faces or edges)
Edit mesh> delete edge/vertexEdit 
mesh> merge vertex tool
double click on an edge to Select edge loop 
select> border edge tool
G= last tool used.
B=Soft select tool. (make sure to adjust the falloff radius)
 You can also get to soft selection by double clicking the select tool (the arrow in the toolbox)
