Final Render
Mitchell recommended changing the render settings so I decided to ditch the comped version as the character was created at a far lower res. Additionally his pose didn’t make sense for the scene.
If I were to do this again I would bring in a character made in Zbrush as they would fit better into the scene.
Printing
I printed my PDF on the large format printer. The print came out a bit choppy, but smoothed out towards the end.
Hanging
Before Oli arrived with the laser level I had hung the print in the classroom on one of the pinboards.
Class
Working with Mitchell, we hung our posters in line with the laser level and centered the posters using the tape measure.

28/11/2019 – Rationale
Cyberhouse
Liam Pattison
Design: The Farnsworth House
Designer: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Cyberhouseis my attempt at reskinning The Farnsworth House, presenting it as if it were the look of the near-future.
Taking cues from the cyberpunk genre and the recently unveiled Tesla Cybertruck, I lit the space with neon strips and a few spotlights. My goal with these lights was find a balance between function and the moody atmosphere that films such as Blade Runnerare known for.
I paired bright orange fabric with dark wood and chrome on the furniture. My reasoning for this was to create a sense of luxury, Mies van der Rohe’s layout would be considered excessive in a cyberpunk setting where the average person would be packed into a shoebox apartment.

Class
Oli’s examples rendered, testing perspective with PNG from Major Project.
Dressing the space, ambient light for the sake of clarity, will replace with more artificial lighting. Figure will be comped in after the final render in Twinmotion.

Class
In class I learnt how to use Twinmotion to make realistic environments. I had a lot of trouble with the program as I was saving the files to my personal drive as instead of the “D” drive – causing the program to not respond. It also prevented snipping tool from saving JPEGs of my later creations. I only learnt what was going on when Oli pointed out that the storage was maxed out.
Independent Study
For independent study I figured out how to render a section view in Indigo. For the final hand-in of the project I am keen to take advantages of the strengths of Indigo and Twinmotion by using Indigo to render the model and Quixel for the environment. After completing these renders I will comp them together in photoshop and then print them at A0 on the large format printer.

Class
During class I experimented with Quixel Mixer. Starting with their sample concrete texture, I made my own texture by deleting, adding new layers and changing the colour of existing layers. Once complete I applied the normal, displacement and texture to simple sketchup forms to test whether it worked in Indigo. Initially I had a hard time understanding whether the displacement map was working as normal maps can also cast shadow too. I overcame this with Oli’s guidance - image 5 shows off the displacement map best with the dips in the plane.

Class
In class I learnt how to use vector works to do technical (and not-so technical) drawings. In the first image I used the freehand tool to draw a section perspective of Farnsworth House, for the second I worked with classes to alter the properties of the shapes/lines. The third image was an incorrect perspective drawing and for the fourth I had to convey anger. I did this by using the freehand and polygonal lasso tool to create sharp, pointy shapes.
Independent Study
For independent study I traced over a google sketch (images 5-8) screenshot of the house in a section perspective using vector works. After printing it out onto A3 computer paper I then used a mechanical pencil to shade over the print out. Following this I used paper towels to smooth the tones out and suggest the quality of light that Farnsworth house is typically lit with.

In class I drew Farnsworth House from various angles and views. I think the most successful drawing was the elevation on page 3 as the proportions look accurate and clean. For the final two drawings on page 3 I tried to create a creepy and happy view of the interior without altering the design too much. I did this by varying my linework. For the happy version I drew the curtains in motion as if they very fluttering in a light breeze – I did this because curved shapes are more comforting than hard shapes.
