And in terms of 40K’s establishment of Erda as mother of the Primarchs:

I adapt that point slightly differently in Children of the Stars. Erda is mother of sixteen of the twenty (including the two lost). Alivia Sureka is the mother of four of the others, Corax, Curze, Magnus the Red, and Perturabo of Olympia. So of her children half do not fall to Chaos, the other half, OTOH, very much does.

Magnus only finds out he killed his mother after he shatters her soul right in front of the Emperor and daddy gets mad and briefly levitates off the throne to kick Magnus all the way back to the Warp. The Emperor, being a bit of a possessive asshole re-stitches Sureka’s soul back together when she actually did want to die and not come back, because he wants someone to talk to who understands things and Erda is........

Well, she’s much more like a good many of her sons in being a hyper-intense figure with high-strung emotions and enormous power and no sense of restraint whatsoever so the Emperor has no need for more of that in his life when the only Primarch who sticks it out through the Long War is Perturabo, the dour Commissar-Primarch.

And to avoid the whole ‘everything would have been hunky dory’ bit, of Sureka’s children, one is the dour martinet who decimated his sons as his ‘hi, sons, I’m dad’ greeting. One is an arrogant prick who doomed humanity because he believed himself the smartest man in the world and he wasn’t. One is Konrad Curze, who makes Vlad Tepes look like Mr. Magoo. And one is Corax, a brooding whiny emo.

Of Erda’s children, the Khan is actually the only well-adjusted and sane man in the entire family of Emperor, wives, and sons. So the bigger asshole of the two women has the only non-asshole son, while the relatively genteel and kind woman is the one who has sons who range from asshole to Sergeant First Class Philip C. Asshole.
