◇Harmonica’s Bar
When the street lamps fill with light, jovial voices can be heard from Harmonica’s bar.
Dale “That was a nice wedding...”
Ramsey "It was.”
Cain “Now those two are under the Toucan Island skies tonight.....Mm?..Is Kathy not coming in tonight?”
Cain looked around the establishment as he asked Hayden, the bartender.  Kathy, who usually hustles and bustles about the place as the waitress, was not there that night.
Hayden "The kids made plans to hang out today. I didn’t really make plans to open the bar, so Selena is also off of work. ”
Dale "Come to think of it, it was a little hard to get that door open.”
Hayden "Well, I guess it’s not so bad for the bar to have a “fathers’ night” from time to time.”
Cain “That wedding ceremony has me feeling strangely sentimental...It’s already time that our children are getting married huh...”
Ramsey "The children sure grow up fast.”
Cain “This feeling of heaven on earth, I’ve certainly felt it before.”
Dale "A heavenly feeling...How nostalgic.”
Ramsey "Nostalgic alright...Though I don’t think it’s that big of a deal...”
Everyone stared into space, looking back onto old times.  As if remembering something, Cain shot up suddenly.
Cain "Luke was a hell of a handful!”
Dale “Ah yea, he ran around the town making a big ruckus, falling down the stairs...Got a picture before taking him to the clinic for a sprained foot. Had to carry him home on my back...”
Dale held his forehead, letting out a big sigh.
Cain "Can’t go around carrying our kids anymore...”
Dale “Yeah...”
Ramsey "Should be easy for you, Renee's light to carry...On the other hand, Owen's nearly impossible...”
Cain "What’re you say’n, old man..? My daughter’s older now...d’get angry if I tried to carry her like that. ”
Ramsey "S’true...If Chloe gets much bigger, I won’t be able to take it anymore...”
Dale “Cherish the time you’ve got together.”
Cain "Wahaha! Chasing after Chloe’s good exercise for your legs!”
Ramsey "Hmph, it’s not like I’m out of shape..”
The echo of laughter fills the bar.
Cain "Oi, Hayden, Kathy still not married yet?”
Hayden "Ah, it seems there’s someone she likes...”
Hayden speaks slowly as he washes the glasses and dishes.
Hayden "She wonders if it’ll be lonely, once I’m finally on my own...She feels that she needs to stay, to repay some kind of debt...Won’t like to admit it, though. ”
Cain "What debts has she got? She paid them off by being born.”
Dale “Totally.”
Hayden "I said the same.”
I stay silent as I listen to each person at the bar.  With each day that passes, my memories grow a little hazy, but they never fade completely.  It’s both melancholic and happy...a strangely complicated feeling fills my heart.
A crackling sound could be heard from the glasses as the ice melted into water.
Cain "Hey you worked hard tonight, Hayden! Take a rest already! Let me help!”
Dale “Yea, give me something to do, too.”
Ramsey "I’ll also help out.”
Hayden "Ah, it’s okay.”
It’d grown past the time for shops to close, yet the lights of the bar stayed lit. Everyone continued to talk tirelessly about their past memories.

◇ Goddess Fountain
It’s a peaceful afternoon. The goddess is standing in front of the fountain as usual. Suddenly, a dazzing light shines brightly.
Harvest Goddess "Hm, it’s unusual for you to come visit." Harvest King looks around and notices that there are no Harvest Sprites around.  Harvest King "Sometimes it’s not a bad idea to make a change in scenery. Where are the little ones?"
Harvest Goddess "They left earlier this morning to go on a picnic."
Harvest King "Hmm ... is your physical condition better?"
Harvest Goddess "Yes, I’m feeling much better. That’s thanks to Finn, and you. And that one, of course."
The goddess smiles gently and directs her feelings of gratitude to the rancher who isn’t there. Harvest King folds his arms. Harvest King "They relied too much on us from the beginning. That was a mistake. ”
Harvest Goddess "You’re set in old ways, and just because you don’t like the human world.."
Harvest King  "It is not a matter of likes and dislikes, I just do not care. You’re too invested in them. If nature succumbs to the inevitable, it should be their own fault."
Harvest Goddess "............"
Harvest King "When the calamity came, they made a fuss. They cried, neglected, and abused us. We too cried, and hurt our hearts looking at the people who did not find it hard to trick and harm others. We wept at the fighting. And now; It's frustrating. "
Harvest Goddess "............"
Harvest King "... did I upset you?"
Harvest Goddess "No, I will not get upset just because of this."
While saying so, the goddess responds with her face turned away.
Harvest King "Why turn your face away? Look and face me."
Harvest Goddess "I do not want to."
Harvest King "You are always siding with the humans ... tsk ..."
Harvest Goddess "......?"
Harvest King "It’s nothing. Well then shall we return before the noisy ones come home?"
Harvest Goddess "People ... they sometimes do things that seem stupid, sometimes make mistakes or frustrate us... but I have the ability to see beyond their mistakes and to overcome hardships by trying again. Sometimes, I think that willpower is much more powerful than any God’s magic. I’m not embarrassed to say that I love that quality dearly."
Harvest King "Are you preaching to me?"
Harvest Goddess "I am speaking generally. It seems you’re not as bored nowadays, though. Many people visit the Heaven’s Seat.”
Harvest King "..Mn."
Harvest King disappears with a frowning face, and the goddess slowly closes her eyes. The Harvest Sprites come back with gifts from afar. Small hands hold mushrooms, tree nuts, flowers and so on.
Alan "Goddess ~ ♪ I'm here, I brought souvenirs!"
Ben "I found lots of places for a picnic."
Collin 'This is a flower that reminds me of the Goddess! ♪'
Edge 'Goddess, were you lonely?'
Harvest Goddess "Yes, I was looking forward to everyone's souvenirs."
Daren "I will make tonight's stew with this mushroom ~ ♪ ♪"
Harvest Goddess "That's wonderful. That's right..how about visiting with Harvest King?"
Alan "The Harvest King? Wouldn’t he get angry?"
Harvest Goddess "I'm sure he would be pleased."
The goddess gently looks around at the Sprites that go out with the finished mushroom stew. Then, she quietly closes her eyes again with the comfort of the sunlight.

“Grandma! I want to learn how to cook! Please teach me? I want to win the next cooking contest! ♪ ” Hello, I am chef Yolanda. Two days ago, my granddaughter Maya asked me to teach her how to cook.  However, it’s surely impossible for her to win. I have been the chef at Ocarina Inn for a long time now, and I have never seen anyone more clumsy.  Though I tell her this much, she still refuses to listen.  She can’t even make meals according to recipe without burning them.  Everyday, it feels like I’m eating charcoal; I don’t want to be sent to an early grave..What a troublesome child. A week has passed since I began teaching Maya how to cook. I was having afternoon tea with Shelly, when I told her what had been going on. After listening to my story, she simply smiled and said: “Everyone has their own strong suits and their own pace at which they walk. I believe that Maya is a lovely child. She is pure, cheerful, and warm to be around. Much like a sunny day..” Is that so? Still, the child cannot cook, I thought to myself while walking home. When I arrived, Maya and Renee were talking amongst themselves. ...“You think so, too?”  “Yes, Renee! Absolutely! Here, take this! For good luck! If you eat this, you’ll have the courage to confess for sure! ♪ ” When Maya hands over the cookie she made, Renee thinks to herself, “I’ll do my best..!” I announced my arrival.  Maya may just be as Shelly said after all. She has lots of friends.  She often gifts handmade sweets to them. Sometimes, I receive them too. She’s even made first-time dishes and given them away.  By the way..That girl. She can only make hot cakes properly. Ara.. Even so, an outstanding hot cake won’t win the cooking contest..I just don’t think she’s suited for competitive cooking. Ten days have passed since I have started teaching Maya to cook. The contest is a week off.  My apprentice, Chase, was watching us and offered his suggestion: “Stop. I’ll teach you. It’s a waste to make Yolanda devote her time to you any further. I’ll show you that it’s impossible to try.” If possible, I hope my granddaughter could become a child that can cook properly. Perhaps there are people who just have no talent. Or..perhaps I’m losing my touch. I decided to leave it to Chase. A few days later, I checked on how the two were doing in the kitchen. I could hear shouting.  “I made it just as you said!! Stupid Chase!”  They’re fighting again... Chase doesn’t seem to be good with his social skills.  “I told you not to make it like this! Why are you even bothering with the contest? You’re terrible at cooking!” “Uwwaaaaahh...If I win, I.. I want the person I like to eat what I make..! I want to confess to them!!”  Oho...So that was the reason for this trouble. Chase fell silent. His attitude is cold, but he made a troubling face. “Hm.. Maya, do you remember when you first made hot cakes?” I want to cry as I watch Chase tell his story. “Didn’t you tell me you made those hot cakes to cheer Yolanda up? When you make something for someone, think only of them.” “Chase...” “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t cook with anyone in particular in mind. But will you make it? That kind of dish. Don’t you cook because you want people to be happy by eating?” Arara...Chase is too obvious. He's said something unusual and turned red. I should leave them be. I’m glad that my apprentices have become more dependable.  It’s the day of the contest. The winner wasn’t Maya, but was Chase instead. I judged both of their dishes, but the difference was clear. However, Maya’s omelette rice was beautiful, with a nice, simple, and warm taste. It seems she made it for someone special.  Maya doesn’t have any special training, and is still bad at cooking. However, maybe that is for the best? Through all of this I learned something important. No, Chase made me realize this properly. I am truly blessed with a gentle and adorable granddaughter and a reliable apprentice. I am so happy.  I will go have tea with Shelly today as well.  END From the official bokumono-wakuani page!

◇Strange Large Capital
A boy was walking restlessly around a street corner.  Everything he saw filled his shining bright eyes with unusual curiosity.
Taylor   “What a large city!~ There’s sure to be many different items here.”
He wandered around until he came across a sign that resembled that of a general store’s. The boy entered the store.  The store owner calls out to the boy.
Shopkeep   “Hey, welcome! Are you here on errands, boy? That’s great!”
Taylor   “I’m not a boy, I’m a farmer! I’m looking for a tough kind of seed that’ll grow in the poor soil of my fields back home. Do you have anything that’ll work?”
The boy searched the shelves of the store enthusiastically, taking a serious look at each product.
Shopkeep   “Hmm...for poorly fertilized land..Wouldn’t tomatoes or be good?”
Taylor   “Tomatoes and potatoes? Okay! Then I’ll buy as many as I can.”
Shopkeep   “ …Mm, you know...earlier, a young woman came in looking for the same thing.”
The man folded his arms and looked at the boy with a pensive expression. Upon hearing the shopkeep’s words, Taylor looked up in surprise.
Taylor   “Really?! Was she pretty, with long and dark hair?”
Shopkeep   “Ah, yes, she was very beautiful - with a beauty mark under her left eye. Do you know each other?” Taylor   “Yea, that’s my big sis! ♪ She also went searching for seeds that would grow in poor soil.”
The boy grinned after learning what his sister was up to. The shopkeep was surprised to learn that the small boy and young woman were both brother and sister, but continued to recount what happened at the time.
Shopkeep   “I see...But I was out of stock at the time, so I had to send her along to the next town.”
Taylor   “Eh? Do you not get these seeds often?”
Shopkeep   “It depends on the amount I can buy when I barter. If it’s too expensive or I can’t profit, it affects the stock.”
Taylor   “Oh...~ Well, if you don’t your customers will be in trouble!”
Shopkeep   “Kid, even if you say that, the selling price will rise if the purchase price rises, and so on. The seeds go to waste like that if they’re not bought.”
Taylor made a pondering gesture after hearing the store owner’s story.
Taylor   “…So you can’t do business by selling seeds cheaply.” Shopkeep   “Eh, boy? Do you buy and sell these seeds? Then go down to the market! You have to buy cheap to make a profit.”
The shopkeep speaks heartily and lets out a loud laugh. The boy felt like he was being made fun of, but took the suggestion seriously.  Taylor   “Well...I want to sell it cheap for the customers, but it’d be disappointing if I didn’t make a profit...And the customers will be unhappy if the prices are too high. I want to make the people happy.”
Shopkeep   “You are quite young, to be thinking about all those difficult things at once like this, boy. ”
Taylor   “I told you I’m not a little kid! My name is Taylor.” Shopkeep   “Okay, Taylor. I want to propose an offer that will let you make cheap purchases, and increase your profits. I’ll provide a free service for you.”
Taylor   “What kind of free service?”
Taylor looked up at the store owner inquisitively, his interest piqued by the owner’s offer.
Shopkeep   “I don’t receive many phone-ordered delivery requests...I think customers will be convinced to buy despite rising prices if they can save time on travel expenses.”
Taylor   “..A delivery service! That’s it! Cool! Wow mister, can I really do that for you?”
Taylor clasps the owner’s hand excitedly.
Shopkeep   “Hahaha, it’s not a big deal.  When I was younger, I had your energy and enthusiasm..But now, I am old, and I’d like to retire this year. The people in this world who do business need to be energetic and wise.”
Taylor   “Ah, I will have to learn more!”
The shopkeeper is delighted to hear that the boy is eager to learn and discuss the ways of the world of business.
Shopkeep   “The most important rule of business is to be genuine. Sincerity is key.”
Taylor   “Sincerity?”
Shopkeep   “I’m talking about the heart. You don’t just deal with things and money, you interact with people, too. It’s important to build relationships and trust with your customers. Make sure you understand that. When you do, you’ll become the perfect businessman♪”
Taylor found himself feeling a little shy, then flashed a proud smile. He looked around the various shops of the large capital, visited the market, then went back to the shopkeeper before leaving for his hometown. The man who came to admire and adore the boy’s enthusiasm, sent him home with a loud good luck cheer - “Do your best!”
Taylor left the store after packing his bag with the items he intended to bring home with him. Then, he set off on his return with a nod and cheerful stride.
