Shared from @nycgildedage . In the spring of 1884, 65 year old Walt Whitman purchased this house on Mickle Boulevard in Camden, NJ. He referred to it as his "shanty” and a friend called it "the worst house and the worst situated". I think it’s cute! In his final years, Whitman noted his appreciation for the house and for Camden. He wrote, "Camden was originally an accident—but I shall never be sorry. I was left over in Camden. It has brought me blessed returns." . The six-room #waltwhitmanhouse is operated as a museum by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is (usually) open to the public.
