So...What's the story behind You Frequency AU?

As in how it's made or what happens in it?

I think I've said it before, I'll say it again bc I like taking about it, most of these are from headcanons for the game it was based on

There's mortals (puppets) and eldritch unexisting consciousnesses (non puppets)

There's the physical dimensions and then there's the void between them

The monsters can't really influence or access physical dimensions, only can be recorded through wave electronics like ghost radios or tvs and stuff

Falling asleep also softens the barrier between physical and non physical dimensions so they can grasp at mortal brains in dreams

SOME of them (read: Julie then Wally) go the extra mile and do a radio/tv show front to make it 'easier to liquify mortal brains'

But if you survive an encounter with them, maybe you'll dream about them again, so you'll still have to deal with them eventually

oh yeah in universe it's all serious and high stakes for y/n

but to us it'll likely look like this

Ok so

Indie game developer Birthday Boy has a horror comedy game, Drive Time Radio, where you fall asleep in the middle of a traffic jam and wake up in an in between dimension void

where two extraterrestrial consciousnesses personified as radio show hosts play a game quiz thing, you either win or die

In this AU all the 'humans' are just puppets, the mortals are puppets. That's why y/n is a puppetbut the welcome home characters aren't, they're eldritch beings who have to devour others for a living, fun! At least they're polite about it.

Only a few have decided to do a whole game show shtick (wally and julie, with assistance) just to be extra

It's like if the 'nothing is really real to you and we live as puppets' was a thing where they were the villains

I like the idea that the only way we get to see and hear from these guys is through physics mumbo jumbo with waves and frequencies, because math is our safest bet of comprehending/categorizing what they are

A little bit like Stanley's Narrator, the lot of them
