the problem with having a longtime special interest in bushcraft/ wilderness survival but only ever actually going camping in the most casual, ‘pitch a tent at A Campground that you just drive to and park’ context and not really even doing that very often is that I am very bad at prepping to go camping in a way that is remotely pragmatic in any direction

#trying to decide what kind of gear to bring and what additional gear we might need and trying to balance #what's EFFICIENT what's the MOST PRACTICAL what's MULTI USE vs like... our car is gonna be right there.#we don't actually need to worry about gathering and carrying and purifying larger quantities of water because there are... water pumps there #I don't need The Best Knife cause we're packing A CAR I can have multiple tools for multiple purposes!!#cosplaying bushcraft because Actual Wilderness in this country is 99% privately owned and not accessible to me :')#anyway trying to meal plan is weird because the (for nerd reasons) Prepper in me is thinking like #'what to bring that's shelf stable and filling and nutritious in case I can't forage or fish very successfully'#and the practical side of me is like 'you don't have to... do that... that's stupid'#but also if you google camp meals it's a lot of like 'bring all the stuff for a normal meal but cook it on a camp grill'#which feels weird and deeply unsatisfying lmao #having to go to the grocery store for more Normal Fresh Meat every two days while camping feels lame :\#anyway tl;dr for a theoretically outdoorsy person I am distressingly bad at it thanks to lack of practice and I hate that lol #about me
