The thing about disventure camp is they do have interesting enough relationships between the characters but like. That is the main draw. So it ends up being that the most interesting part of the show is before and after the challenge, not during, because that’s when the characters talk and actually have meaningful interactions.
Total Drama had many problems but this wasn’t one because they took care to write challenges for the show that allow the characters to interact meaningfully with each other at length. And DC still hasn’t figure out how to do that.
#like think about the challenges in dc#those things take SUCH a short amount of time compared to td challenges#but TD had things like boot camp or the deer hunt#where these characters talked to each other at length DURING the challenge#and the circumstances of the challenge felt more real and grounded bc it impacted the characters’ dynamics more#bc the characters’ dynamics were formed DURING the challenge#whereas in disventure camp the challenges really only affect like. strategy. and not so much character relationships#this makes the challenges the most boring part of the show bc they’re not like#funny or interesting or insane enough to stand up on their own#and I feel like in a show like this that maybe. shouldn’t be the case
