actually one thing i /have/ been doing lately is making desserts, a statement that will sound like a harbinger of the end times to anyone who knows me, but i'm afraid that all the southern women who act like cooking is a high stakes affair that will result in some horrible cosmic punishment if you mess it up have all been following the classic southern tenet of "make things more complicated and difficult than they need to be for no goddamn reason" and it turns out you don't need a 25-ingredient 4h labor of love to make a nice pie. you don't even need to turn on the oven. you need like. three ingredients and a whisk. all this time i could have had so many cheap tasty desserts in my house (my family history of diabetes surely wishes i'd never discovered this truth. but alas lol)
