waittt omg hold on hear me out. guys who are perhaps not taken as seriously both inside and outside their cliques because of certain factors (hal because he's reduced to "fat comic relief" and thus isn't seen as intimidating as the other greasers; justin because of his personality, his looks, and his pretty obvious repressed homosexuality).

guys who are both probably insecure deep down but express it in different ways… guys who lean into the roles they've been assigned (whether intentionally or unintentionally) because it's the only way they stand out… guys who are so different yet so similar.

you know what would be kind of cute as a ship? hal/justin

#the biggest difference i think is that above all hal still is respected and cared for by his friends #while justin is mostly only in the preps for status #hence why he lies about things like being derby's best friend #id imagine justin to be fairly shallow and aware that his clique's mostly a mutually beneficial sort of thing #but i think like parker he actually also does want friends. hes desperate to fit in. he just goes about it in an even more abrasive way #with that difference in mind if they were ever to cross paths i think justin COULD possibly envy hal for–#–having it worse but still being marginally happier and more accepted #and if that envy soured into resent? omg…#hal's also a pretty good guy afaik so i think he COULD have it in him to feel sorry for justin #anyways i probably could explain it better but YEAH. hal/justin. halstin? eggcelent pair #(and he'd think justin's egg puns are funny despite himself.)#bully cce #bully scholarship edition #hal esposito #justin vandervelde
