would you mind telling me where sasuke rushes to save sakura despite the village asking for help? i’m not really up to date with the novels and such, but i’d love to read some of them
It was during Sakura Hiden. I suppose I can also include the below Anon’s ask in my answer since it’s essentially regarding the same topic:
Tumblr media
During said novel, after Sasuke caught wind of the fact that Sakura had been kidnapped by Kido, he went back to try and save her, despite having ignored the village’s prior pleas for assistance with clearing his name. During chapter 4, Kakashi details how he had sent Sasuke messages requesting contact with him in order to discuss the impostor who had been wreaking while disguised as Sasuke. However, Kakashi mentions that he received no responses from him. Naruto and Sakura were later discussing Sasuke during the same chapter, and they said that Sasuke wasn’t responding because he probably didn't think those issues were a big deal. Sasuke’s dismissiveness began to annoy Kido, so he took the next measure. He said and I quote:
“Kidnap her. She is Sasuke’s peer, a woman named Haruno Sakura. If that woman went missing, and if Sasuke hears that news, I think that Sasuke will return to the village.”
And Kido was absolutely right, because when Sasuke learned of Sakura’s capture, that’s what spurned him into action and he went back to help. But of course, Sakura was able to escape on her own, and she only saw the remnants of the thugs that Sasuke had defeated prior to making his swift exit.
The relevant passage from chapter 8 (link to full novel here) is as follows:
“Mm. Somehow...apparently, someone caught up with them before we did and finished them off for us,” Kakashi said, crossing his arms.
“Finished them off for us?” Ino asked.
“You guys know, don't you?” Kakashi asked Team Seven, grinning playfully.
“Yes.” Sakura smiled, and Naruto rubbed the bottom of his nose with a chuckle. Sai also grinned brightly when he got it.
Traces of Fire Style jutsu. The Anbu members attacked with genjutsu. And - maybe it had just been her imagination, but - that figure she saw for an instant from behind.
“What?! You don't mean Sasuke?!” Ino shouted.
“Well, that's probably it.”
“The real one? Seriously?”
“Pretty sure that was the real one,” Kakashi said, laughing.
“What? Then why isn't he here?”
“He probably went back,” Sai said. “To his travelling.”
“No no no, that's just cold. I mean, the village is totally not far from here, right? He could at least stop by. Right, Sakura?”
“Right,” Sakura replied, but strangely, she didn't feel sad about it.
After not reacting at all to this whole thing, practically telling them to handle it themselves, Sasuke came back in the end. She was happy to know this.
On his way back to the village, Sasuke came across the Anbu members cloaked in the Tailed Beast chakra. They fought, and he won with his Fire Style and genjutsu.
If he used his Sharingan, he could read his opponent's memory.
So he probably read the memory of one of the Anbu there. So when he learned about the decisive battle fought by Sakura and the others against Kido, he took in the fact that Kido's chakra suddenly dropped, and figured out that these Anbu were fleeing the village.
If the big boss Kido had been defeated, then there was nothing left for him to do. He would go back to his journey. And then Sasuke left this place...
This was how Sakura imagined the events that had so recently taken place there.
“I dunno.” Naruto shrugged. “Doing what needs to be done, and then up and disappearing, that sounds pretty much like Sasuke.”
“It really does.” Sakura giggled. But she was glad to just be able to feel these lingering echoes of this “Sasuke-ness.”
So as you can see, the fact that Sasuke didn’t opt to meet with them didn't even upset Sakura much, not just because she agreed with Naruto that it was a very Sasuke-like thing to do, but more importantly, because she knew this meant that despite Sasuke ignoring the village’s previous pleas for help, thinking that they should take care of it themselves, when it came to Sakura, saving her was something that he wanted to do, and he came back of his own accord, for her sake. That speaks volumes regarding how Sasuke felt about her, and Sakura knew that. Therefore, when considering Sakura’s earlier insecurities about how special she was to him, this was a very positive note to leave the novel on.
