#who knows maybe dream deliberately made this account to throw people off the scent of dnf

how do you feel about the bumble situation now that we know the account is real? i know you were a dnf truther so i'm just curious how others are coping <3
ok first of all, we know nothing. we know the photo is a real photo that he took and recently put on snapchat. we don't know if the account is something he set up as a joke or for a video or if he was legit looking for dates on bumble in Europe, which seems both (a) extremely unwise from a security standpoint (and goes against what he was just saying about keeping his relationships private), and (b) unlikely, as bumble is more for actual dating and not hookups and he was in Europe for all of five minutes. like until he says something, I'm not going to take it as "this is an actual thing he was doing" because there's so much we don't know.
secondly, I was never an actual truther, I have said before that I try to hold multiple possibilities in my head at once because we just don't know. I thought it was pretty likely they're together, but like, there has always been a huge amount of their lives that we don't see. I love learning more about them and recontextualizing everything, but I don't think this is like, some nail in the coffin to dnf, because dnf has always been a fantasy. RPF ships are fantasies. even if they're about two people who have explicitly said that they're together, they're fantasies, because we can't possibly know how those people act when we can't see them. and we have to keep that in mind or we'll lose perspective.
thirdly, dnf is real and has always been real, in the sense that GeorgeNotFound will always have decided to move across the ocean for his best friend whose face he had never seen, and DreamWasTaken built his friends a house where they could all live and waited for George before he started fully living his life. that's a true story, and whether they ever were or are or will be romantically involved or not doesn't change that. that story is what sucked me in to the ship and the fandom in the first place. if it's a story about friendship, it's still one of the best ones I've ever heard, and as an ace person I have to represent for platonic relationships being potentially just as deep and important as romantic/sexual ones.
but again, there's so much we don't know. we're not entitled to know everything about their personal lives and we never have been. I love a good piece of gossip as much as anyone, but whether or not Dream is looking for dates is fundamentally None Of My Business.
so I think we should stop assuming we know anything about what this means, and we should also get some perspective on what we think we know, or think we are entitled to know, about their lives.
