I think books official synopsis should only include things that happen very early on the book (I also think all books should include a shnopsis on the back cover or on the jacket or anywhere)
#this has happened like three times in a row now. the first twist is included in the synopsis#so in iwwv the first ''twist'' (the death of one of the students as announced in the official synopsis) happens around 35% of the book#in one last stop (the one i'm reading now) we learn about jane almost a quarter into the book (and we learn she's from the 70s the loop#hasn't been discovered yet and i'm over 20% in by now#worst case scenario so far was camilleri's the terracotta dog because the mystery (as explained on the cover) doesn't happen#until after THE FIRST HALF of the book. like that's crazy.#why can't we let books like. genuinely surprise us. especially since everyone is so obsessed with spoiler culture?#i don't care about spoilers but once i read one of these synopsis and The Thing hasn't happened yet i feel this weird thing like WHEN is#it going to happen. like I'm perpetually waiting. and in the worst cases (like the terracotta dog) it completely ruins the reading#experience for a while because i have a lingering feeling like nothing really happens until the synopsis (which is supposes to be the#premise) happens/comes to a full. it's different if you were telling a friend abt a certain book. but some premises take a bit long to come#to effect and I'd rather not know straight away?#laura reads#blabla
