Well, Iruka is an 11/10 on the Boy Rating Scale now, poor fuckin guy.

I like how Iruka loves Naruto not just because he’s an orphan, or because of any similarities between them, but In Spite of all the reasons he shouldn’t. I imagine that Muzuki’s belief isn’t that rare. A lot of the villagers probably believe Naruto literally is the 9 tailed fox instead of just holding it.

Iruka could’ve easily projected the blame for his parents deaths onto Naruto. In a child under his watch who is shunned and unprotected by the village, a teacher like Iruka would’ve had an easy target to vent the rage and despair he must feel in mourning. But he chooses not to, and has shown nothing but care and fondness for the kid. Good dad.

The End of Chapter 1

goddamn this is so wholesome, and I am so glad this dad survived

I didn’t really know what to expect from Naruto in terms of quality, but I am really happy with this.

Chapter 1 was an excellent hook into the series imo. We got a really good idea of what Naruto is about as a character, a little of how this world is like, a wonderful mini-arc about Naruto and his Psuedo-Dad.

It’s also an interesting place to start the powerscale, and gave an interesting idea of how people fight. Cloning oneself with some degree of competency was mandatory for like, 10 year olds to graduate ninja school, implying that its a pretty fuckin simple and easy to learn technique, despite how incredible that seems. Naruto, who should be about 2 years older than his peers, can create over a thousand clones, which is presumably far more advanced. I do know that the clones have like, limited durability, inversely proportional to how many you make. That does limit the power severely, since each individual clone should pop pretty easy, but its still insane.

I was surprised Mizuki didn’t use any ninja magic, but hey maybe thats because he’s a bitch.

Yknow I wonder what would happen if Naruto actually was to die. Like, obviously he won’t, he’s the main character, but I don’t think he is literally the demon. The demon is inside of him. So isn’t it possible that killing Naruto would just, let it out, making him a walking timebomb? I personally wouldn’t want to risk it, considering the massive scale and destructive power of the thing.

A Note On Spoilers

With Naruto being what Naruto is, its impossible to read it completely fresh nowadays. By sheer cultural osmosis if nothing else, we all know atleast a little bit about Naruto. In my experience I know a lot more because I let my friend V rant about the series to me a lot, and show me some fights online. I didnt care about spoilers because I didnt think I would get into the series.

Whoops.

So heres a list of things I know about Naruto, vaguely categorized.

Naruto is a series about magic ninjas trying to out-ninja eachother in constant child death battles with their jutsus and their bakugons and such.

Naruto is also one of those children, and hes got a fox demon all up inside him, granting him stupid amounts of ninja powers. He’s got a lot of clones, and a spinny ball move called Rasengan. He also splits the moon in half in one of the movies, what the fucks up with that. He also wants to become ninja president?

Speaking of children, Sasuke is like Narutos rival or something. I’m not sure how hes gonna compete with fox demon powers, but good luck Sasuke. Life isnt fair.

Gaara is a little bitch with sand powers, also granted to him by a demon. Hes a Bad Boy, but becomes a Good Boy after losing his sand powers, and he gets new sand powers, congratulations Gaara!

Theres a snake dude, and hes gross, and they let him live for some godforsaken reason.

There’s a recurring theme of Magic Ninja Eyes. Theres like 3 kinds u can unlock on your skill tree, all of them overpowered.

Theres also plant magic, its overpowered, and everyone wants to be a Plant Ninja

Theres a dude named Madara, I watched part of one of his fights on youtube, that dude summoned a meteor, twice, Jesus Christ.

Aliens get involved?

Well, Lets Do This

Hey, its me, your genderqueer dad, here to read Naruto in the year 20 fucking 20. Its one of those old classic manga that I would constantly hear about, but never had the desire to get into. Like Dragon Ball, Bleach, One Piece, although I actually have seen One Piece now.

My close friend V happens to be a giant goddamn nerd about it, love that about them, and it inspired me to get into the series, why not, itll be fun.

Also decided to do it in liveblog form since I myself like the liveblog format, and I havent seen one of Naruto. Posts will begin sometime soon.

I love the facial expressions here, the artist is really good at making you feel the pain, for a character you haven’t even known for a chapter. Maybe it hits me harder cause I resonate with Iruka. I’ve always been weird, since I was a kid. A lot of people tend to have seen me as just The Weirdo, or The Class Clown.

I mean I get it. I often feel like my brain works differently from the majority of people, my thought processes just often don’t make sense to people. I have large amounts of interest in things other people think are weird and dumb. Understanding social norms really only set in at like, 19.

And it’s intensified by how high-energy I get when im having fun with friends. Theres so much Me happening constantly. I used to get described a lot as having “Crackhead Energy.”

But i’ve often felt like theres people who, in seeing how difficult it is to understand how I work, just relegate me into a box inside their head that reads “Alien in a human suit, dont ask questions, you wont get it anyway.”

After knowing me for a while people stop asking me why I do things. They figure it doesn’t matter cause they wont get it anyway. And that hurts somewhat, but whatever, im used to it.

Then theres people who end up shocked, or disappointed, when I do “act like a normal person” for a bit. Ended a friendship recently with a guy who was pretty much only interested in me if I was in that like, High Energy Clown Mode. I found out recently, and this led to ending the friendship, that he was basically bored with me anytime I was subdued and quiet, which happens sometimes, I dont have infinite energy.

Like he would join a minecraft server when he heard me and V were hanging out in it, and would pretty much leave as soon as he realised me and V were just, cool hanging out mostly silent. Uninterested in The Class Clown unless its Doing The Clowning.

Being The Clown has always been the most effective way to get attention for me. And I guess im tired of that, and thats part of why I started this liveblog. I wanted to do something where I might get acknowledged for something more cerebral, a brand of media analysis. I’ll of course be weird and a little clowny while doing it. But I want to do long, serious posts as well. I think in content this old and popular, there will be a lot to talk about. I’m looking forward to it.

On reflection, I guess this was barely related at all. But the words spill out whether I want them to or not.
