Snowshoe Hares are very tasty table fare. One or two for the freezer, and the braising pot. We saw many dozens in our travels while hunting bears over the past 2 weeks in Alberta’s boreal forest. Small game hunting, at least here in Alberta seems to be severely undervalued. We have hares and rabbits in great numbers, without seasons. Definitely worth considering for shoulder season, or at least by-catch harvest opportunities. Photo by John Schneider. Lake Trout through a hole in the ice is a difficult thing to accomplish. At least in the one lake that I’ve ever tried it on. I am motivated to explore this species in different lakes, through the ice or otherwise.
