Meredith

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Getting Meredith to laugh should be considered an Olympic sport. It's rarer than a blue moon, but more rewarding than any treasure. Currently Tariq holds the high score for number of times he's gotten her to laugh.

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Snow triggers nostalgia for her, but she doesn't usually like it. She loves the cold, and loves being around snow, but it will always make her think about her tribe, and more specifically her parents. Remembering that she's the last one left always leaves a bitter taste in her mouth, and will put her in a distant mood for a while.

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

Meredith doesn't give two shits about what colors look good on her, she just gravitates towards browns and other darker colors that she doesn't have to worry about keeping clean. While those colors do suit her, (black especially) she would also look very good in something olive green, to go with her eyes, or even a jewel-toned blue.

28. Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth? 

No. It doesn't matter how painful the truth is, she would always prefer it over a lie.

G. What trait of theirs bothers you the most?

Her stubbornness and refusal to rely on others. She eventually gets much better at this, but for most of her life, she was on her own, and had to rely on herself for everything, so she never asks for help or lets others see her weak.

Theodore

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

Because he's still a bit of a spoiled prince at heart, he gravitates towards bleach-white shirts, gold, and rich expensive colors like reds. However, what he looks best in are colors like moss green, or a warm honey brown.

16. What makes their stomach turn?

He's not too squeamish as a doctor (though it did take some work for him to get used to the particularly horrific wounds) but he can't handle vomit or anything to do with fish. He's gotten used to the smell since he's on the ocean all the time, but nothing will make him run to the side of the ship faster than watching Marjorie clean a fish for dinner.

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? 

It takes a lot for him to get jealous, but all he does is pout and mope a little bit. He tends to beat down on himself a lot when he gets jealous and becomes a bit more insecure, but it never lasts for very long.

30. Who do they most regret meeting? 

No one! He believes that everyone he's met has led him to where he is in his life, and he wouldn't change any part of it.

38. What memory do they revisit the most often? 

He has two memories that he revisits most often. The first is of the last night he spent with his fathers before deciding to run away, and that one often makes him very sad to think of, not knowing how they reacted to him being gone the next day. But the next memory is more hopeful. It's of the first time he, along with Elizabeth and Andreya, found the Jagged Ruby and Meredith, and realized they could start new lives on the ship, free to live how they wanted. (Plus, the image of Meredith standing on the deck with her hair flowing and the sun behind her may or may not be the moment he fell in love.)

40. How sensitive are they to their own flaws?

It's taken some time to get to this point, but he is very aware of his narrowed view of the world, and certain prejudiced ideas he might have been taught when he was younger. Growing up extremely privileged, with two very loving (if not a little overprotective) parents, there were a lot of things he had to relearn or even discover for the first time when he started working on the ship. He works hard to keep himself open-minded and is always learning new things about those around him.

D. Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Theo has mostly been the same for the last handful of years! I think originally I didn't picture him with curly, or blond hair, but those details were quickly adopted once Elizabeth and Andreya were formed in my mind. He also always had the scar on his face, though I've only recently solidified the size and shape of it.

Saoirse

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Seeing pieces of past Queens in new ones, like when Meredith danced to a song Aria had taught her, that a previous Queen, Olivianna, had created. They could see her shadow in Meredith's steps, and it made them feel nostalgic, and warm. They enjoy feeling nostalgic, having memories that they can hold dear like that, as it makes them feel more real.

12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

There is no place on their body Saoirse can't reach, their body is capable of twisting and turning in any way they need to reach an itch they need to scratch, much to some people's disgust.

18. What embarrasses them?

Quite literally nothing. They aren't embarrassed by anything they do, or anything others do, though they will always ask questions if they're confused by what someone is doing that others find embarrassing.

20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?

For the first couple hundred or so years that they spent with humanity, they would say that there was no difference. But, the longer they spend around humans, the clearer the difference becomes. They also don't see the purpose of categorizing different types of love, but, they have come up with a description that works for them.

Familial love is what they feel when they see Cara (one of Niamh's descendants), and the certain kind of sadness that comes with watching her grow from a child into a young woman, as well as the desire to protect and nurture her life unto death.

Platonic love is what they feel for Jacqui, a certain kind of kinship that is born through shared interests, shared thoughts, and shared pasts, as well as a strong drive of loyalty and the desire to spend time with him over others.

Then romantic love is much harder for them to describe, as they've only experienced it less than a handful of times, but they consider it to be a connection with a person that sees beyond the image they project, beyond the human they attempt to be. Someone who sees in their eyes the thousands of years they have lived and isn't scared by it, but intrigued, someone who makes a mark on their being before Saoirse is even aware it happened.

(What makes the difference between these types of love hard for them to distinguish usually comes down to the fact that their love for the Queen is always a mixture of platonic, romantic, and familial.)

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? 

It takes a lot for Saoirse to even consider jealousy, but when they are, they get very possessive, and they are not above letting their physical form glitch away for a second if they need to scare someone off.

D. Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Saoirse has been largely the same since I created them almost two years ago, however, at the very beginning I gave them little pointed elf ears just because, but have since removed those.

Rodrigo

1. What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?

He’s usually pretty good at entertaining himself, but if his normal distractions are nowhere to be found, and he has to sit still, he’s going to lose it after about a half hour. A part of him has to be moving at all times to keep himself sane.

10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?

Promising his Mami that he’d stay inside and hidden during the attack on his village. It haunts him almost daily, and he is always wondering what, if anything, might have happened differently if he listened and stayed hidden.

G. What trait of theirs bothers you the most?

The fact that (in normal circumstances/universes) he’s so extremely possessive and jealous over the people he cares about. He’s capable of doing awful things just to make sure he doesn’t lose any of them, and would do almost anything - except, of course, actually talking to them and sharing his feelings.

Jacqui

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

He likes to stick to cool/jewel-toned colors like blues, greens, and purples, and while he does look Amazing in all of the above, he would also look great in warmer colors like yellow and red.

38. What memory do they revisit the most often?

A good memory that he revisits most often is the first time Keean told him that he loved him. Jacqui all but turned into a puddle of mush when that happened, and it’s a memory he revisits often when he’s having a bad day - and he most definitely cried about it the night it happened.

H. What trait do you admire most?

I admire his selflessness, and the way he puts others above himself always, but recognize that he often doesn’t know when to draw the line and that ends up causing just as many problems. But, when he is able to communicate, he always tries to work towards compromise.

Louis

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

He tends to stick with white, tan, and brown colored shirts, mostly because he doesn’t want to ruin anything more colorful while he’s working, but also because loud and vibrant colors can give him a headache (he avoids Rodrigo’s quarters as much as he can for this reason). He would probably look best in a baby blue, or even a light yellow, and the very few more “formal” shirts that he owns are in those colors, as he finds them soothing.

16. What makes their stomach turn?

As a doctor, he’s pretty much immune to blood, gore, vomit, etc, etc, and isn’t shocked easily, but he is very very grossed out by specific textures or smells. He can never be on dishwashing duty because touching wet food will make him queasy, and similarly, the smell of cilantro (he inherited the “cilantro tastes like soap” gene and Paulina weeps daily for him).

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?

Louis isn’t one to get jealous over anything, but if something bothers him, he tends to retreat into himself and talk out loud a lot less. He is usually the first to notice it in himself though, and he will always try to rationalize with himself first before bringing it up to the other person.

30.  Who do they most regret meeting?

He both regrets and doesn’t regret meeting his former mentor, one of the Original Scholars at the Sea Palace. He regrets meeting them because he would have been better off not knowing what really goes down in the catacombs, and how the scholars largely obtain their knowledge, but at the same time, he doesn’t regret it, because he was able to use the knowledge he took from the Palace to help the people he cares about now.

38. What memory do they revisit the most often?

Meeting Dimitri’s sister, and his now best friend, Laila! She was very very shy when she first joined the crew, but the way her face lit up when she realized Louis could understand and talk to her in sign is something that he revisits often.

hi question that i was thinking about in the car on my way to work: which of your ocs would have road rage and which wouldn’t? for the ones that do, what flavor of road rage would it be

Do Have Road Rage

Alec—listen, she’s just a bad driver in general okay, so most of the things she gets angry about are technically her fault, but you’d never know that by how she curses. Will rant and rave in her car but won’t honk at anyone because she thinks that’s rude. Also if anyone gives her an apologetic look after doing something stupid her anger fizzles out almost immediately.

Leon—yes, they technically can’t drive because they’re blind but they don’t let that stop them from joining in on any road rage the driver may be facing. Will swear up a storm and stick their head out of a window to yell at someone.

Meredith—are we surprised? Most of her road rage is just her slamming her steering wheel and yelling what the fuck is wrong with you fucking asshole at the top of her lungs. She is generally a safe driver, but, listen, she drives a car that could probably withstand a small nuclear blast, if she wanted to run you off the road she would. 

Rodrigo—again, are we surprised, no. Will use the horn religiously, and gives people the middle finger just as much. Most likely to get in an accident because of road rage.

Jacqui—his road rage is much much more subdued but when he’s angry you can Feel it in the air. Curses a lot under his breath and is writing essays in his head about the asshole who cut him off, white-knuckling the steering wheel.

Jamil—is almost too safe of a driver but prepares for anything and just brushes it all off

Camia—is a careful driver and doesn’t tend to get pissed off that easily
