Australia Blast Their Way Near To Semi Finals 

T20 World Cup - Super 12 - Group 1 - Australia vs West Indies - Abu Dhabi 

Australia hammered their way to the threshold of a berth in the semi finals of the T20 World Cup with a devastating display of batting by opener David Warner who smashed an unbeaten 89 from 56 balls against the West Indies who unsuccessfully defended a total of 157 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. The target was never a threat to Australia as Warner spiced his innings with nine fours and four sixes as they finished the contest in 16.2 overs with the reliable Mitchell Marsh making 53 in 32 balls with five fours and two sixes.

Even the early exit of explosive opener Aaron Finch for 9 did not cause any alarm in the Australian camp as Warner and Marsh wreaked havoc among the West Indies bowlers with a stand of 124 runs.

For Australia to be deprived of a place in the semi-finals, South Africa will need to beat England, who have already qualified, by a big margin. The West Indies put into bat after losing the toss gave Australia the jitters when Chris Gayle hoisted two sixes before he was bowled by Pat Cummins for 15 with the total at 30 in only 2.2 overs.

But with exit of Gayle the Australians got into their strides as paceman Josh Hazelwood sent back Nicholas Pooran for 4 and two balls later bagged the scalp of Roston Chase by bowling the batter for a duck that left the West Indies reeling at 35 for 3 from which they recovered to make 157 for 7 in the 20 overs.

It fell on the shoulders of Kieron Pollard to lift the West Indies with a top score of 44 while Hazelwood finished with four wickets.
