Whilst today marks the 10th of December, otherwise known a #InternationalHumanRightsDay it also marks the end of #16DaysOfActivism. It is difficult to fully celebrate #HumanRightsDay because womens rights have not yet been fully recognized, yet womens rights are in fact human rights. Whilst we have flooded your screens and whilst we have been flooded with stats and facts about Gender Based Violence, Domestic Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, Rape, Femicide, Female Genital Mutilation, the psychological, social and economic abuse of women and girls, and so much more we must remember that we have barely even scratched the surface. The number of unreported cases still remains unknown in all these forms of violence metted out against women, womxn and girls. Whilst we hope that this countdown has been informative & will help equip you with more tools to fight these societal illls we know we have not covered nearly enough. More stats and facts can be seen from @legalaidsa1 as well as further understanding the process for getting protection orders is also covered in the Domestic Violence Act in South Africa. Information on possible shelters that might be able to assist you can be found on http://www.gauteng.gov.za/services/women/Pages/Shelters.aspx whilst these aren't the only shelters they are a start.
