Happy #nationalallotmentsweek ! We're not growing much this year, which feels weird. It's tricky to get your hands on an allotment in Bristol - we're on all the local waiting lists - so we optimistically turned the back garden into a mini plot, which has had its ups and downs! A lot of stuff struggled to germinate on the heavy clay soil, we lost a lot of seedlings to slugs, and if you follow my stories you'll have been treated to the long, tragic saga of the broad beans vs aphids (long story short: the aphids won, despite the best efforts of ladybird and hoverfly larvae and a few little parasitic wasps). The dwarf French beans got (extra) stunted by the late cold snap, but there was a surprise win from the peas and lettuces, which i normally cant grow at all! Our two courgette plants are doing sterling work, plus there are squashes coming, the apples look promising, and the tomatoes are magnificent, so it's not been too bad, considering! What are you growing this year?
