One thing that is very different in Donal’s and Barney’s Mats is that Barney’s Mat is sort of… he is sort of tired. I mean he is depressed, while Donal’s is in recovery, obviously, but there was sort of defeat in the way Mat was from the very first episode of the first season, that is just not there in season 2.

For show!Mat it is very, very normal to react positively to the blowing of the horn, although I think Barney’s Mat would have not been so open about it. It’s a very interesting change, and I missed Barney a lot this season, A LOT. I wanted the bad boy vibes back, I wanted him to be a bit of an asshole, because Donal’s Mat is not like that at all and I constantly felt sorry for him and it clashed with the Mat in my head basically. The best way I can explain it is that with Barney’s Mat I sort of had the feeling, that if he decided that he likes me, I could really rely on him. Like he WILL come through and he will bitch and moan, but he’ll be with me. With Donal’s Mat he will try to help even if he dislikes me and maybe even won’t bitch about it, but he might do a shitty job? Which are two very different approaches.

But after the scenes where Rand and Mat meet again, where Mat waits for Rand to leave the city, where he takes drugs and where he feels relief that he is one of the heroes, and then immediately hurts Rand on accident? Like these scenes have sold me on Donal’s Mat. He is my sweet cheese, my rotten soldier. Nynaeve patting Mat’s cheek and not even looking at her supposedly dead friend who is now dying for real? Like I get it, I was “no you are so good you need to know”. It’s a completely different vibe though. I love this Mat and I don’t want any other Mats now.

This change suits show!Mat a lot and I wonder if they planned this change for Barney too, and if they did how would he approach that? He was never that sweet and I doubt that he would have gone for it?

to me the differences in the two versions of mat were largely due to them being in different circumstances. even pre-dagger in the first 2 episodes of season 1, mat is a) having a bad time at home and then b) getting dragged on a roadtrip from hell. season 2 when mat gets out of tar valon, that's really the first time we've seen him almost completely carefree, so naturally he's much lighter (and i did see some of barney's darker & defeated mat in donal's Captive Mat in the first 2.5 episodes of s2, just like how i see some of donal's lighter mat in barney's Jokester Trying To Cheer Up His Friends Mat in the first 2 episodes of s1).

but at the same time i do feel some kind of difference in Vibe between barney's mat and donal's mat, in a way i can't really put my finger on but is just down to the fact that of course two different people playing the same character will each put their own little spin on that character! for example, i definitely get what you're describing of s2 mat feeling more like a lovable doofus and s1 mat more like an asshole with a heart of gold haha

it's also interesting to consider that barney's mat was written entirely with the original plan for mat in mind, and donal's was written entirely with the revamped plan for mat in mind, so that could also explain some differences! it is quite possible they wanted to make mat more of a lovable doofus in s2 because they knew him staying behind at the waygate was an unplanned change that made him look bad in the eyes of many viewers (not me though!), so they wanted to try extra hard to make him sweet and likable and pitiable in s2 to compensate. and there was for sure a shift in motives for mat between s1 and s2: in s1 he's a reluctant participant in The Plot because he's getting dragged along and just wants to go home to his sisters (more of the "doesn't WANT to be a hero" vibe) whereas in s2 he's a more eager participant in The Plot because hates himself for abandoning his friends and desperately wants to make up for it (more of the "doesn't think he CAN be a hero" vibe).

yeah, now that i'm writing it out i've convinced myself that it WAS the unplanned changes to mat's arc due to the actor switch that's really the key difference between barney's mat and donal's mat! and specifically the changes to his motivations and his willingness to participate in the plot. because s1 mat WAS a grouchier and more reluctant hero even without the dagger's influence, but s2 mat is so desperate to be good and to do good specifically because of the Great Waygate Abandonment. so i certainly don't think this change was planned or would've happened if barney had continued in the role, because his departure was precisely the thing that necessitated the change!

dream: stats - gives his class random stats facts about each exam they take - “the median was 25.8% and the mean was 50% and the mode was 72% andt he t-test showed the results were statistically significant” - wears a green button up formal shirt . every day. with different shades of green  - tries to tame his hair every morning but we’ve all seen that shit. its a mess its so fluffy - you try to fix it in the morning but by the time he gets to school its fucked - “whats the probability mr wastaken’s hair is gonna be tamed today? i bet 5 dollars on 13.2%” “...i hear you guys you know” - is always 20 minutes early - never more than that tho - speedruns grading tests  - if a kid is slacking in class, he makes sure that reflects on his grade - he has this big project each year where he asks all the kids to make a project that relates stats to their real life - his favorite thing ever - he’ll come home and be like “dear, tubbo had this amazing idea, the kids are so innovative”  - tearing up cause his students - best friends with sapnap - u make him a lunch every day and he just trades it with sapnap - everyone thinks hes in an affair with george but he tells them everytime that he has a lovely s/o at home  - one of the teachers everyone has a crush on  - is always standing at his desk like in front of it and leaning back - does not use the whiteboard he just has slideshows  - the room is sparsely decorated - its mainly old projects that people did - has a wall with all the cards and stuff kids gave him, its behind his desk 

sapnap: pe/ basketball + football coach - bro - he’s the type of coach/teacher that when he has one of his atheletes in his class he’s RUTHLESS - “pick it up tommy!! is this how you’re gonna be in the game on friday!!! i hope not!!” - jokingly ofc - if ur not one of his athletes he’s nice dw  - still makes everyone call him coach tho - how on earth do u spell athletes i think that’s right - will let you sit out if he can tell ur hurting - knows when a kid is faking it - BUT if you use the “im on my period” trick he doesn’t even question it - “coach im on my period” “okay ur good sit out for today” - likes giving romance advice for some reason - “coach :((( jared blh blah [insert problem]” “omg okay here’s what u do” - pretends he’s in a relationship with karl (u know about it ofc) - so when u show up to one of his games and kiss him all the players are like - “YOURE NOT DATING MR JACOBS” and he just laughs and kisses you again - wears shorts or sweats with a tshirt no matter what - “im a pe teacher fuck professional”  - makes fun of dream for like no reason  - his favorite unit is the flag football unit and his least favorite is the line dance one - but uses it as an opportunity to play country music and visit his roots amen - just imagine sapnap teaching u line dancing HAAHAH okay im done here 

george: comp sci - doesnt give a shit about lesson planning - shows up, glances at the syllabus and just jumps into it - it ends up working in the end - believes in a work to learn method - he doesnt teach, he assigns projects and helps the kids out - so if the kid is like comp sci EXPERT they can just pop off and george doesnt have to worry - but if the kid struggles a bit heres there to help :] - the whole room is blue cause thats all he can see - he looks so uncomfortable when he wears like long sleeve button ups so you unbutton the first one every morning before he leaves  - refuses to wear casual clothing to school ever  - unless its pajama day ayeeee - once he was teaching the whole class how to download something or some shit and forgot to stop sharing his screen  - so he went to text you he was like “doing good love? see you later :]” - and everyone was like - “MR NOTFOUND??” and he was like “wot.” “YOURE NOT DATING MR WASTAKEN??” “no ofc not mr wastaken is ugly” - cue the sounds of breaking glass from mr wastaken’s room  - he has a tv on display outside his classroom where he showcases his student’s work - for his final he just gives them a theme and says “go off” - they could make a video, a game, a simulator - whatever they want - 1) its less work for george 2) its more entertaining - once made them all code valentine’s day gifts for you - you teared up ngl  - seems like he doesnt care but wants all his kids to succeed - is REALLY good at being patient and helping a kid out but loses all that patience when it comes to other teachers (sapnap, quackity)

karl: chem - absolutely loves the science goggles look. has them on his head always - also lab coats with sweater vest period ahh period uhh  - only doesnt give a second shit about any other science but chemistry - loves lab days like on GOD - the man lives for the one lab where u put sticks w diff elements in the fire and watch the fire change color - guys i swear im a stem major - sapnap comes to watch that lab everytime. every period. even if he has a class - knows sapnap pretends to date him and reciprocates it all through the year - but theres that one kid who remembers his “get to know me” slideshow at the beginning of the year where he had a picture of you two - “mr jacobs..i dont believe ur dating coach sapanp” “whaaaat, pshhh, u lying” - makes so many chemistry jokes with you - “hey baby i think we got chemistry” *giggles manically* “why did you say that” “its literally my job”  - cue a thumbs up from u and an eye roll from him - genuinely loves being a teacher tho - the interaction he gets with students >>>  - he loves the feeling when a student comes up to him after class or even after theyre finished with his classes and go “hey what you taught me really helped” - loves it when a student keeps in contact with him, making him tear up and shi

quackity: spanish - this one was quite..obvious - chaotic teaching style, it doesnt work for everyone - but ITS FUN - lives on teaching through games - kahoots, quiz, scavenger hunt, anything to get out of a slideshow he’ll do - and he figures it out - his quizzes and tests are generally harder than what the games cover but hes a fair grader like he gets that he made it harder - LMFAO HAS A UNIT WHERE HE TEACHES FLIRTS AND SHIT IN SPANISH - brings u in to teach - LMFAOOO “hola amor” “hi?” “what does that mean class” “hi love” “wtf” - laughs maniacally  - also this scenario - “hey mr q can i get extra credit for this” “for what” “ *student swears agressively in spanish*”  “....yeah ill give u some points dont tell principal phil” - jokingly pines over both coach sapnap and mr jacobs - “guys coach sapnap *heart eyes* and mr jacobs *heart eyes*” “please just teach us spanish” - but everyone knows its a joke and ur it for him - he LOVES the food unit - he borrows the kitchens from the home ec room to teach people how to make traditional spanish foods - but GODDAMN he cant cook  - so it ends badly - also he has a thing on his wall for the fifa world cup where its like an elimination thing - face painted his face the mexican flag when the game happened - was this close to cancelling class when mexico was out

wilbur: theater  - i wish he was MY theater teacher in high school - one of the only non-toxic teachers - wears a long ass coat i forgot the name - TRENCHCOAT. for dramatics. its giving severus snape  - always wants to put on musicals but phil said  “you can only do one musical per year” - does that tik tok trend where he has a wall of musicals and rips one off each day and the last one standing is the one they put on - tries so so so hard to get the rights to hamilton, doesnt obviously - so he does stuff like in the heights, dear evan hansen, etc - IF A KID WRITES A MUSICAL AND APPROACHES HIM YOU BEST KNOW HES ALREADY SAYING YES TO PUTTING IT ON WITHOUT A SECOND *THOUGHT* - he loves supporting his students in stuff theyre passionate about even if it isnt music/theater related - once went to the schools water polo game cause one his student mentioned offhandedly in class that they didnt have anyone coming - tommy is his teacher’s assistant person  - he runs the improv lessons while wil observes him teaching - “okay kids youre all aliens and ur abducting mr soot” “tommy..” - its so funny when theyre together  - rumor has it theyre brothers along with mr blade and phil is their dad - “class please, philza minecraft is not my father.” “okay son” “PHIL WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE” - brings u in one day with the excuse of teaching them how to be in love - in reality just has a whole class sing a long to disney love songs while u sit there like why am i here - you pressure him to put on shows YOU want to see - “wil put on high school musical” “nO! Crew Spreadsheet

So before I even thought about making a website (or using Tumblr) I wanted to see which petz I had and what I wanted to keep, their stats and stuff.

I wanted a crew page, really. That's it. That was always my favorite part of making Petz sites in the past.

So, as I'm usually wot to do, I used OpenOffice. Because I'm a spreadsheet kind of gal.

Then I found PetzCheckerLooks and wanted to know more about the genetics of my pets, since I'm working on a NIB breeding project.

And whoa-boy, the number of fluke eye colors that my dalis have is crazy. I've even got a fluke coat color! I didn't know that could happen. And I'm almost positive she's not hexed because I bred her myself (according to her LNZ data I bred her in 2003.)

I'm being ruthless about who I'm keeping and who is "retiring"/being foldered. Purebred NIB for most pets, with a few attempts at selective breeding. As seen in the first screenshot, Persians with Alley spots or Persians with Siamese points are two I had started working on before. I'll probably keep going with that. And my mixes are selective -- only Persian/Alley or Persian/Siamese; no mixie-free-for-alls. Because I'm picky.

A note about terms: I'm sticking with "retired" for petz I'm no longer including in part of my crew. I was tempted to use "rainbow bridge" but it pulls up too many thoughts about Real Life pets I've lost.

10 Years Anniversary

PART 3

The bad memories

For 10 years I can tell many stories where I was the center of controversies with scandals and all that shit but two stories stand out among trivial ones with their unique meaning for me.

I have angered many people through the years, I am the Asshole after all, and from very early phase I got used to the flexibility of the followers counter. I wondered what the ratio is so I start counting manually who unfollowed me. Yes, I know your names... for the stats. I stopped around 2017 and for my first 3000 followers there were around 1000 unfollowers.

And this was long before the TV series drama.

Today is around 1.5-2 to 1 ratio probably. The record is around 100 unfollowers for 24 hours. But this is not the point. I never considered being unfollowed/blocked as "bad memory". You might be impressed if such numbers happen to you but I got used to that behavior to be normal. Nobody is obliged to follow me or to stay. What I feel is pity which is not for me, but for the people who unfollow/block. Like, imagine seeing all this amazing content of great fan posts, art, memes, etc., one of the best places for WoT fans for exploration and to decide to shoot yourself in the foot. Because why not handicap yourself to prove how angry you are. And do not get me wrong - everyone has the freedom to choose what to do.

So about the stories that I want to share today.

For the first one we have to go back to 2015 when there was created a Skype group chat for WoT fans from Tumblr. At that exact time by coincidence I was in my biggest controversy where pretty much the whole active UAF ganged on me and I was left alone to defend myself as nobody wanted to get involved. I won't get into boring details why and what happened, not because I am ashamed or something but as this is completely irrelevant for the point of this story. So because of the drama it was out of question for me to be member of that Skype chat group. But the Pattern had other plans. By pure accident I got access to their chat logs. I want to be very clear - I did not pretend or lie to be someone else, nor I asked someone to pretend or lie for me. I did not plot it to trick anyone, it just happened.

At the time of the scandal basically this chat group acted as tool for coordination for my opposition on what and how to attack me in the scandal. They could not suspect anything so you can imagine how free and safe they were in slandering my name without any hesitation. I read amazing speculations and many various labels about myself. It was surreal and brutal experience to know what exactly was going on in real time. I do not recommend anyone such revelation. Especially if you cannot handle people to speak your name in bad faith. This is not the first time where I tell the story as I have talked about it here and here.

And I make this reveal not to play the victim or to play the creep. You can imagine that by having this priceless information this was dangerous “weapon” for me as well as for the people involved. For many of you this is nightmare and you probably start imagining various horrible scenarios of cyber harassment.

I wouldn't tell this story if such was the case. No one was threatened, hurt, stalked, harassed or whatever action by me. The only thing that truly angered me was how third completely innocent parties got involved and slandered for nothing. I did not care for myself. At the end after time I had chat with some of the members of the Skype group. And with one of the members I even got to be on friendly speaking terms.

The point of the story is not to tell you how badly I was treated in that hidden chat but that while I was in my lowest point in the fandom, reading all the shit about me, knowing who told what - after the drama I did not hold any grudge and I wanted to communicate. And I did communicate and no one can come out and show disrespectful DMs of mine because of what I have known.

And while for the first story I succeeded to not be bothered what false lies strangers on the Internet tell about me, the second one broke my heart and hurt badly my state of mentality.

For four years I considered and treated a group of people on the Internet as my close friends. Yeah, huge mistake. Do you know what the feeling to be betrayed by friends is? Better not finding out. It did some damage on my mental stability for quite a time as I haven't ever been betrayed at such severe degree before.

I got backstabbed in the heart with no warning out of a clear blue sky. And I stand by these words. I have not talked on my blog about it in the last 2 years but for the purpose of this post, I will tell some of it. No one can come out and say that I did something inappropriate in public or in private. At the end I got betrayed for being "potential threat". This accusation could fly if I was some newbie. But after 4 years? For 4 years of constant communication any real evidence couldn't be found? People couldn't look with their own eyes that 4 years I have never been a threat for anyone despite having admin position to do so much? On the contrary, my introverted ass was constantly pushing around to connect with people and push for the community to be active. I have not changed for these particular 4 years and I have not changed till now. For 10 years as I am on Tumblr no one can come and tell real story of harassment or bullying. With the generic exception of the usual "he is an asshole" because I challenged their opinion and did nothing else.

But again. The point is not making myself victim, or how badly it affected me.

The point, as with the first story, is communication. I am still here. I am still willing to talk with people who do not share my views. We are all different after all. For many of you it may seem impossible and you will forever live in fear and pain.

It doesn't matter how badly I was treated, there is always a bigger goal. I may live in fear, suspicion and pain from all the bad treatment. But this cannot compare to the bigger disaster and the bigger pain watching the superficial manipulated division in the fandom. If we do not want to communicate and talk through our differences, no one else will do it.

Do you know who I credit for my mentality to go through the blur of pain and to still willing to communicate with the people who wronged me? That's right.

You’ve spent your whole life with people around. It’s never quiet, not even in your own mind, and that’s always been a comfort. No matter where you are, there’s always been your people, experiencing their joys, sadness, anger, it makes it hard to feel alone. Impossible, really.

Did you wonder how people without telepathy did it? Survived in a world where they were isolated, alone in their minds, how could anyone manage it? Or did you feel it, that connection despite the lack of it, groups of people, connected by something deeper than telepathy, is that what you felt with your people, your telepathy only heightening the bonds?

Lots of creatures work in packs. It’s a dangerous world out there, they form groups to live. Time Lords can travel further than anything else, through time itself, yet in your mind you are never alone, you have your TARDIS, you have your people, always in your mind, living their lives so deeply entwined in yours.

The humans have their telephones, they have their organisations, they have their groups, their bond is as deep as any telepathy can give them.

And you felt it too, didn’t you. That connection.

And felt is the key word, isn’t it. Past tense.

It’s quiet now.

The wall is cold beneath your fingers, against your cheek. The room is quiet, it’s so quiet , you can’t bring yourself to make a noise, you can’t bring yourself to move, to break the eerie stillness of this place.

You haven’t felt that same connection with humans, have you. You empathise with their emotions, you love them so deeply, you’re fascinated and in awe of them — their curiosity, their teamwork.

And yet, you are the outsider. You are the one pointed out in photographs for being out of place, you are the one who stands in a crowd and feels more alone than you thought you could.

You are the one who invited Rose Tyler to come with you; you are the one who reached out a hand to Lynda-with-a-Y and told her to come with you; you are the one who stood in a church and told those brilliant, wonderful, fantastic humans that you would save them.

You are the one who is left alone.

You are the one who feels the cold wall, and hears the deafening silence.

You are the last one left. You are the one who is alone.

Return to WoT went pretty well. I didn’t notice many differences except for slight map changes. Was able to get back into the LUCH clan immediately, too. And some of the matches were rather tedious, but others were pretty amazing or funny. Looks like I still got it~

Some progress on my stats, I guess. I don’t think it’s possible to get purple xTE if you’ve played more than about 200 matches in this SPG, honestly. But at least the kills are coming along nicely (7,738 kills at 4,425 matches).

I was also finally able to get some platooning in with a fella who’s been in my friend list for long enough that I don’t even remember how he ended up in there, it went nicely... 😊

I can see it going two ways: They get along way too well or they are intense academic rivals.

Oh boy, I've definitely given this some thought before, but not quite in-depth, so here goes: Frankly, while they're both the quintessential nerds in DAO, I've never really seen it? As in, I never thought of them as being super close in the time that Dagna was at Kinloch Hold.

Some of that has to do with the timeline: Dagna arrives at the tower sometime in 9:30 Dragon, maybe closer or in 9:31 depending on how you play the game, meanwhile Finn leaves Kinloch Hold sometime in 9:32 Dragon during Witch Hunt and never returns (that's how I'm interpreting Eleni Zinovia's prophecy about him, plus there's his WoT II entry, of course). So there's a year, two years max that they could have run into each other, and honestly, Finn is kind of a snob about being a full-fledged mage (he's not some "drooling apprentice"!). Dagna is new at the Circle and despite having read some books on magic before, pretty darn new to magic itself at the time, literally an apprentice. So, I don't know if he would have given her much thought/consideration?

And then there's also the fact that in the ten years that she's been studying magic, she's apparently been all over the world, studying in so many places that she's got a "chest full of letters" with references by the time she joins the Inquisition (see Dagna's WoT II entry). So, who knows how long she really stayed in Kinloch Hold in the first place before moving on? What I could see is them having some friendly talks in the library about Tevinter and its magic, considering Dagna says in DAO that she's begun reading the Fortikum Kadab and it was just fascinating - meanwhile Finn is hugely into the Tevinter Imperium. But again, I don't see an intense rivalry or a 'besties' type of relationship developing right then and there, because they're just at different points of their 'careers' at the time.

In general? I think of Dagna as more of a scientist/engineer, who really gets into the grit of things and does tons of practical research (beyond what others may deem safe or even possible). She's 100 % passion and excitement, witty, tough, crafty, a real go-getter who wants to push the limits of magical research.

Finn, on the other hand, I feel is less of a scientist and more someone who's partial to the humanities. Like, we see him being knowledgeable about magic: he can scry, he can uncover the Lights of Arlathan with some 'grey area' blood spell, (and he's got some insane starting stats in the DLC, so he definitely knows his spells), but it's his passion for history and languages that stands out to me the most when I play Witch Hunt. He's the kinda guy who will spend weeks buried in his books and scrolls to figure out the meaning of one elvhen word. And it doesn't even have to be this insane discovery that will challenge the status quo and change everything forever, he'll be completely satisfied with simply knowing more than he did before he started researching. Even if his findings have no practical use or value for anyone else.

So, they're two very different kind of nerds in my eyes. Dagna is a creative force, really avant-garde and goal-orientated, Finn is your classic library scholar who delights in uncovering the past. That's why I find a direct rivalry between the two highly unlikely, but I imagine they could have really nice talks about the areas where their individual research overlaps if they were to meet sometime after they've both left Kinloch Hold (I've actually written such a chance meeting between them sometime after DAI here).

So, yeah, these are my thoughts on the two of them and I apologize if they disappoint you. :o But thank you so much for the ask!!! I had a blast writing all of this out. :)

SD-100 research

The SD-100 is a license produced SU-100 that was initially created during the second world war and saw service all the way into the 60s. The SD-100 was produced by Czechoslovakia with the original SU-100 being produced by the Soviets. The reason I wanted to add the SD-100 instead of the SU-100 is because I wanted to add a Warsaw pact tank destroyer that wasn’t Soviet but the only issue with that is that the Warsaw pact was basically just soviet license productions like the SD-100. Finding information about the SD-100 was quite difficult but luckily for me the SD-100 is identical to the SU-100 so the stats for that are the same and I can get information about that and use it for the SD-100. I believe the only difference between the two vehicles is that the Czechs proposed to add a bigger gun but it was never added due to impracticality. The SD-100 was armed with one 100mm D10s cannon with no coaxial gun. The SD-100 had about 75mm of frontal armour which is a good amount more than the Jagdpanzer. The SD-100 was quite slow compared to the Jagdpanzer going only 30 mph. I can’t find anything about the SD-100/SU-100s gun rotation so I’ll either make it the same as the Jagdpanzer or eyeball it.
