caepaecaesurae ...I allowv my moirail to make his owvn decisions, as so fewv in his social circle allowv him to do.  He chooses peace ovwer his owvn wvell-being too often, and I can encourage him to consider himself as much as I wvish, but in the end, his life is full of his decisions to make and to lead. .. Howvevwer.  His decisions are his to make, wvhen he is wvell enough to do so on his owvn. If he is for some reason impaired, I must act as his stand-in, and make choices that I believwe he wvill be able to livwe wvith. There are some people against wvhome there is no revwenge, for this reason.  ...Howvevwer, lesser, nonvwiolent spite  is an option.  ...Or wvays of prevwenting others from causing harm once again, that do not directly conflict wvith his code. Not necessarily wvhat he Wvould do, but wvhat he can accept that I did in his place.

I didn't fight hard enough because I was trying to be peaceful. Now I find myself wondering if this will be the same: Will I regret inaction, or will I regret action? And if I choose not to act, will it happen anyway? If I choose to act, will it do anything at all? I say I would give anything for him, but... maybe that's not quite true. I stop at "him." I don't know if I would give up what I have with him for a chance to save him. I never thought I'd have to choose.

He may find it at least some comfort, if you are more merciful in your methods than he wvould expect in a situation of this nature.  WVithout necessarily being as merciful as he himself wvould be. Evwery relationship is a compromise. He must do so as wvell.
