My original story, "Kafur"

It's probably about time I start info dumping about this here so I can do all my ramblings SO HERE IT GOES, this is just like, the general setting stuff.

The Universe:

In the universe there are two realms, the mortal realm, and the realm of the lost, aka "Kafur". The mortal realm is where all things in the universe begin, but as these things are forgotten or lost, they become a part of Kafur. Here, they are claimed by the rolling dunes of the endless desert, where all things in the universe end.

(Something I would definitely like to clarify here. In this universe it's not just like "Ah shit I lost my car keys" and then they're in another realm. For an item to materialize in Kafur it has to be lost/forgotten for somewhere around AGES first. Trust me I got that question a lot.)

How do people end up in Kafur?

To humans Kafur, in short, is a place between life and death. Those who awaken on this plane have something that happened during their lifetime that is leaving them unable to rest peacefully. Often times, this is a sort of unresolved trauma. Until they resolve this, their consciousness is stuck between existence and nonexistence.

If a human "dies" in Kafur, they do not pass to nonexistence, but instead, their body becomes a hollow husk, and their consciousness is in a strange state of emptiness, best described as a crippling feeling of sadness or loneliness, but without a cause. It is because of this fact, that the people in Kafur find it imperative to survive and resolve their pasts.
