★ ┈┈ rory gilmore in season one of gilmore girls (don’t reblog 🔪🔪🔪 !!)
season one rory really is the cutest. i have a lot of feels for her and her relationships in this season.
rory and lane!  i love their fights, honestly. because they are always very well done and are usually good at highlighting negative about rory (she can be self centered, get lost in her own personal drama and struggles and lose sight of herself).  lane gets her, and i love how young rory gets to be around her, even when they are talking about bands no one under eighty has heard of, its the youngest we ever see rory.
rory and dean! i love them in season 1. i think in modern fandom we get lost in otp and lose sight that some relationships can only last a while and be good and important. in season 2 we see their downfall because rory is maturing but dean is not. bu in season 1, they are a very good match and they are so sweet around each other! he is such a great first love for her and they are adorable together!
rory and lorelai!  while they do have some fights during this season, i think it’s their most peaceful one in terms of clashes. i just adore them, the way lorelai would kill and die for her, the way rory can be more of a mother somedays, but at the end of the day, even though they are best friends, rory needs her mom.
rory and max!  in this rewatch i’ve become a max stan and idk what to do with this information except to say that i would die for more scenes of them outside of chilton getting to know each other and developing a bond. (not to speak of season 2 in a season 1 post but the scene where rory says she wanted him to be her stepfather... i cried). anyways, he is a great teacher and mentor.
rory and paris!  definetly their gayest season and that’s saying something.

i was talking to @lorelaithesecond about this and i think it would have been neat (and i might make a verse for this one day) if Rory had gone to somewhere that was not Harvard of Yale. I was looking at maps of ivy league schools in the U.S. and I saw that Brown would be closer than Harvard (though not as close as Yale) — it’s a two hour car ride and there is a train track + some busses that would take her around 4 hours as well.
but basically, I like the idea of her choosing somewhere that’s unique to her. it’s not Lorelai’s dream (which would tie in with the show’s message of Rory being able to make her own choices + change her mind), but it wouldn’t give more power to her grandparents as well. After the whole incident at Yale where Richard sprung up a meeting at her, I think it would have been interesting to have her choose a third option.

★ ┈┈ (personal post, don’t reblog) I just watched the episode where Lorelai runs away after breaking up with Max and it really puts future events in perspective. There is a lot of criticism about the writer’s choice to have Rory run away after her conversation with Logan’s dad when he says she has no future in the business and that Rory always took criticism and was able to rise above it. Which is true, but it’s one thing to have Paris saying she is never going to catch up, or have a teacher doubt her ability to get into Harvard. Those things motivated her because they did not go to the core of her being, they didn’t make her question herself; they made her dig her heels deeper and say i’m rory gilmore, i can do this.
when what happens makes her question who she is though… that’s when she runs away. we see her doing this three times (i) after she sleeps with dean; (ii) as mentioned above, after her talk with mitchum and (iii) also the time that after she kisses jess, she goes to washington for the summer. and all of that I think can be traced back to what she saw her mother do — lorelai could put up with a lot of it and fight back, but when things were about to snap, she ran away.
now, some of those escapes were necessary (leaving her parent’s place was essential) but what happened with max wasn’t, she did not need to run away in that situation, but she didn’t know how to deal with it, so she escaped. which is exactly what rory did when she didn’t know what to do.
rory is her own person, but we are very influenced by our parents and the way they deal with things becomes part of us.

★ ┈┈ (personal post, don’t reblog) my most controversial opinion on all the fandoms i write (and oh boy do I write in controversial fandoms) is that Rory… might not have been cut out to be a journalist and year in the life was not that out of character about that… now everything else was sort of questionable, but the general vibe of Rory not succeeding actually shows consistency to what we were shown several times during the show’s run.
time after time, when we see rory pitching an article or trying to write something outside of the box, she can’t really find it in herself. i think rory is a wonderful writer, but journalism as she was thinking about practicing, was not cut out for her. i think the closest thing we see to what she should do, is the one article she does not publish  — the one about the secret yale society.
personally, i keep the ending of season seven with rory taking the job as a journalist for an online newspaper following the obama campaign. there, she rarely breaks news (she does not cultivate good and ranking sources). she usually publishes things based on what other newspapers have. except, she does publish a few good pieces about journalism itself and the campaign trial. they aren’t articles — they are opinion pieces and long features.
after the campaign ends, her contract is not renewed. but she did befriend several other journalists in the campaign trial who send her their manuscripts (because campaign trials = book deals!) and she edits a few. first for free, but she does get a reputation going and is eventually hired by a publishing house in new york. she starts in the political section before being transferred to the culture section where she flourishes.
she eventually goes back to writing features, usually for magazines like the atlantic, slate, new york magazine (…. and of course a lot of medium articles…. so many….). it’s usually not original reporting, more reflections on what is rocking popular culture (for example, she would definetly have written a long feature about the bad art friend and how different people on twitter are reacting to it).
also, very importantly, rory is an obnoxious blue check on twitter.
let’s be honest, she probably has a podcast.
