Research on Celeste gameplay
On Celeste there are different mechanics like being able to climb walls, jump, being able to go onto moving platforms, able to jump on springs, etc. Celeste makes their gameplay smooth and fresh by bringing new mechanics on different levels through the gameplay. This makes the game not so boring through each stage you complete as whilst playing their are new mechanics being brought into play for example:
Tumblr media
This is shown when being brought into another stage when climbing the mountain. This is also showing how these mechanics are being shown through different levels and are designed to fit the theme through that stage instead of everything just being repetitive and boring. https://youtu.be/lZoQ9a7oPvo?si=XYGL-R3RLOk5dFj_ Video ^^ To me what makes Celeste bring out its uniqueness which stands out is how the story fits within the gameplay. Celeste was able to put mechanics like a feather into being played within one of the stages of climbing the mountain. Where the character Madeline thinks about keeping this feather afloat to calm herself down, so when people are playing the game its a cool reminder to people to keep calm whilst playing.

Outdoor LED Flood Lights – When to use and how to choose?
WhatsApp & wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
What is an LED flood light?
LED floor lights are artificial lights to cover a large area outside. There are going to be events that happen outside where it's going to get really dark outside, but there need to be ways of covering fields with light at any time of the day. The usage of this is very obvious if you want to go to outdoor events.
One of the more obvious uses is sports such as Football and soccer. A lot of the important games happen during the night time since people will be off work and have more time to appreciate the sport. Football is almost never played when it's bright out. However, coaches, players, team coordinators, officials, and many other people there need to see everything and can't miss anything. The light is artificial, so the brightness isn't going to have the same effect that it would have on your eyes in other instances. So far this has become the most optimal way to enjoy events that happen late at night.
The main goal is to see when it's dark out, so using more traditional kinds of light simply wouldn't work at all. They're one of the few kinds of light that can have an effect at a very high elevation. These lights are also able to carry a massive amount across the field without needing to use that many lights compared to traditional ones. These lights can also last a long time without having to worry about power. You'll really only have to replace the batteries a couple of times a year and that's if you use it often.
What are the differences between floodlights and regular lights?
For one thing, regular lights are much more specific in terms of the area they cover. Or they need to be put in a room where they are able to illuminate the room that they're in. Regular lights also don't have as much of an effect in general because the lights aren't as powerful. The source of the power is also different because they aren't using LEDs in most cases. The light bulbs inside of the light go out faster but in some cases, there are modified lightbulbs that can sometimes last longer than the typical light bulb
LED lights use LEDs to be able to power the light. This is a much cheaper and more power-efficient way of covering space across large acres of land. In general, this is the optimal way to cover any kind of large area where there's an audience that wants to look at something nice happening. The LED floodlight is going to cost a lot more, but the usage of what you're getting is going to be well-worth whatever kind of price that you are going to pay. Overall, the two lights may serve the same purpose on paper, but they're completely different in practice.
The number of floodlights compared to the number of regular lights that you're going to have is going to be completely different. In a place like a school, you're going to have hundreds or potentially thousands of lights for a school, but many of them have less than 100 for the floodlights. This is because the school is going to be spending less time on their acre of land than teaching kids in school. In some cases, some schools have paid more for their floodlights than what they paid for the thousands of regular lights in a classroom.
When to use a LED floodlight?
The obvious time to use this would be for a football game. Many high schools and Colleges need to have these lights working every week to be able to illuminate so the audience can see everything that's going on. This is an absolute necessity since some of these football games are going to be happening at pitch-black hours where none of the people are able to see anything that's going on at all. The audience is also going to view this from a horizontal perspective which is going to make it really easy to see anything important happen.
You could also use this at a music event that happens at night. Sometimes it's the people who want to be seen at night, but more often than not, they just want the performer to be seen while they are jamming to the music that they have appreciated. These floodlights can also be used to artistic effect to create a tone of expectations before they go in. It's one of the most essential functions to work since it can make or break the experience for the audience that's taken the time out the go there. If these lights don't work, it may not be worth the time that they're putting in.
One of the most important times a group of people would want to be able to use these lights is for political or religious rallies. In this case, the speakers are going to be talking about things that truly affect the outside world. The tone for when people go there should always be serious and create a feeling that people should listen to what they have to say. The main speakers may bring on guests that also may want you to look at them which is why lighting in this case is so important. It could also be the case why these figures wear make-up when they give these speeches.
How to choose the right outdoor LED floodlights?
When you're going to get any piece of technology, it's important to examine the price first. You need to remember that you're planning on getting these lights to use for a long time and this isn't something that you should be ready to cheap out on. One of these lights is going to cost you around $500 USD. That's a lot of money, but most people who are going to buy these lights have the intention of making their money back with them. However, you really shouldn't pay any more than that.
Wattage is also really important when getting these lights. Typically, these lights are going to be around 100 watts. This is the perfect blend between being able to light up an area and not having it so bright that the lights burn out. You can give or take with the wattage when it comes to the lights but it's not something that you should push to the point where it's hard to see the people who are going to be on the field. Try different wattages of LED lights out and see which result is the best for you
Color temperature is also really important when getting any kind of light. Lightbulbs are incredibly hot which is why people will often tell you not to touch them because you can burn yourself,. In fact, if you were to put an egg on a lightbulb, it would begin to scramble since it's so hot. You should want your LED light to be warm because that means it's producing heat. However, the light can't be so hot to the point where it's being inconsistent. The whole point of this would be to have consistent lighting.
How many watts should an outside LED flood light be?
The most ideal wattage for outside LED lights is 80 watts. This is seen by some to be on the lower end, but you should be as moderate as possible when you're going to get a wattage for a light. Typically, lower wattages of lights have more consistent lighting and last for longer amounts of time. Going about it this way may not be for everyone, but even small wattage increases may create a worse light over time. You should want to preserve that light as much as possible, so make sure to stay close to 80 watts.
Some wattages go to 100, in fact, most of the outside LED lights are going to be 100 since it's just easier for the manufacturers to use that wattage. Of course, that wattage might be too high for what you're going to use this light for, but that's fine in the short term. The light may not last for years at a time, but you're still going to achieve the same effect. Since you're going to be using so many lights, it may be worth using lower wattages being the audience is going to have the same effect on whatever is being looked at on the field.
You don't want to go too low as well because that can also create its own set of problems. In something like a sports game, you don't want one team to have an advantage in a match that makes it harder for one team to see the other team that's outside. What's best is for both teams to be able to see each other at the same brightness. Whenever you need more power of the light, you won't be able to get that out of the lights you go, like a 30 LED outside light.

How to Identify the Quality of LED Display Screen?
WhatsApp & Wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
People tend to shop around for the best value for money. It's easy for us to identify the quality of some daily necessities because we use them frequently or are familiar with them. But what if you have to purchase an LED display screen? It's certain that you will make a lot of mistakes in the process as you are not familiar with it. Today I will teach you how to identify the quality of LED display screens with this article and nine important features from all aspects of LED display screens are contained. The first point to the eleventh point is applied to general LED display screens, and the twelfth point extends to small-spacing ones.
Tumblr media
1. Flatness.
The surface flatness of the display screens shall be within ±1mm to ensure that the display image will not be distorted. A convex or concave display screen will cause blind spots from viewing angles. The flatness is mainly determined by manufacturing technique.
2. Brightness and viewing angle.
The brightness of indoor full-color display screens should be above 800cd/m, and it should be above 1500cd /m for outdoor full-color display screens, so as to ensure the normal operation of them. Otherwise, the images on them will be fuzzy out of the low brightness. The brightness is mainly determined by the quality of the LED die. Since the magnitude of the viewing angle, which is mainly determined by the way the die is packaged, directly determines the audience of the display screens, wider is better.
3. White balance effect.
White balance effect is one of the most important indicators of display screens. From the perspective of chromatics, it can show pure white only when the ratio of red to green to blue, namely the three primary colors, stands at 1: 4.6: 0.16. Any deviation of the actual ratio can cause the deviation of white balance. Generally, we have to pay attention to whether the white is stained with blue or yellowish-green. White balance is mainly determined by the control system of display screens, and the die also has a certain effect on color restoration.
4. Color restoration.
Color restoration of display screens refers to the high consistency of the colors on the display screens and the image source, which can ensure the realism of the image.
5. Whether there is mosaic or dead points on the display screen.
Mosaic refers to small squares keeping bright or dark on the display screen, namely module necrosis phenomenon, which is mainly caused by the poor quality of screen connectors. Dead points refer to the single points keeping bright or black on the display screen, the number of which is mainly determined by the quality of the die.
6. Whether there is any color block on the display screen.
Color blocks refer to the obvious color difference between adjacent modules. The color transition is based on modules. Color blocks are caused mainly by poor control system, low gray level and low scanning frequency.
7. Wavelength determines whether the color is pure and consistent.
Users do not have professional equipment generally. So how can we confirm the wavelength accuracy? It is easy to do that. Firstly, make the whole screen white. The white should be pure without being mixed with any other colors. If you think it doesn't matter if it's a little reddish or bluish, you will be all wet, as the color deviation proves that the display screen has problems with its materials, process quality control and so on. The longer it is used, the more serious the problems will become. Secondly, make the whole screen red, green and blue respectively. It will show standard red, green and blue under central wavelength. If the colors look darker or lighter than they're supposed to be, it proves the wavelength is deviated. If a certain color is inconsistent, it proves that the wave difference is too large. The wave difference is controlled at 3nm for green and blue and at 5nm for red of high-quality display screens within the range of central wavelength.
8. Power consumption per square
Power consumption per square refers to the power consumption generated by an LED display screen with an area of one square meter, whose unit is watt. We always use watts per hour as the unit of electricity consumption. For example, if we say the working consumption of an LED display screen of one square meter reaches 300 watts, it means the display screen consumes 300 watts of electricity per hour per square meter. There are usually two indicators for the power consumption of LED display screens, one of which is the maximum power consumption, the other is working consumption. The maximum power consumption refers to the power consumption when the LED display screen is at its maximum brightness. How to identify the maximum power consumption with eyes? An easy way to do it is to count the number of power supplies behind the box, multiplied by the maximum power of each power supply, and you can calculate the maximum power consumption per square meter then according to the size of the box.
9. Refresh rate
Refresh rate refers to the number of full displays of the display information of the LED display screen per second, and its unit is Hz. Low refresh rate will make the images dithering from people's eyes and make scanning lines appear in cameras when people shoot on the screen. Generally speaking, human eyes require the refresh rate to be above 300Hz, which is to say as long as the refresh rate is above 300Hz, people will not see the images dithering on the screen with naked eyes. While as for shooting, the refresh rate has to be at least above 600HZ to keep the scanning lines out of the cameras according to different settings for different cameras. High refresh rate can improve the brightness and color fidelity of the display screen, which can be detected with a digital camera. If the screen has a high refresh rate, the camera will take very sharp pictures without snow spots or scanning lines. This indicator is especially important when it comes to leased screens and the ones for television relay.
10. About contrast
Contrast refers to the measurement of different brightness levels between the brightest white and darkest black in the light and dark areas of an image. The larger the range of difference is, the greater the contrast will be, and the smaller the range of difference is, the lower the contrast will be. Contrast is very important to the visual effect. Generally speaking, the higher the contrast is, the clearer and more eye-catching the images will be, and the brighter the colors will be. The low contrast will just make the whole picture gray.
11. Color temperature
When the color of the images on the display screen is inconsistent with or different from that of the image source, it means there is a serious image distortion, which is related to the color temperature of the white balance of the LED display screen. The color temperature of the white balance between 6500K to 8000K will be appropriate when people look at the display screen directly with their eyes, while it should be adjusted to about 5500K when the screen is used for television relay so as to ensure that the picture on the display screen will be real after being recorded and broadcast by cameras.

Types and Functions of Diodes - A Comprehensive Guide
WhatsApp & Wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
Diodes are a crucial electrical component. They appear in various items, including computers, televisions, radar circuits, power supply systems, and communications systems. Understanding diodes can help one understand why it is such an essential component.
Check out this comprehensive guide concerning the function of diodes. It will provide insight into what diodes are, how diodes work, their benefits and drawbacks, their various types, and their applications.
What Is a Diode?
A diode is a one-way switch in a circuit. It allows electrical current to move in a specific direction and prevents it from moving in the opposite direction. This device typically has two terminals. One is the positive terminal, the anode, and the other is the negative terminal, the cathode.
Many diodes consist of semiconductor materials, such as selenium. Semiconductors are substances with conductivity levels lower than conductors but higher than insulators. People often rate diodes by their current capacity, type, and voltage.
How Do Diodes Work?
The most common kind of diode is the semiconductor diode. It has a P-type layer of positively charged particles and an N-type layer of negatively charged particles. When these two layers come together, they create a PN junction.
A PN junction impacts the flow of current. The positively charged particles in the P-type layer of the junction are attracted to the negatively charged particles in the N-type layer. Their attraction creates a barrier.
An electrode attached to the P-type layer is an anode, and one attached to the N-type semiconductor is a cathode. When connected to a power source, the current will flow from the anode to the cathode. It will not flow from the cathode to the anode.
What Are the Advantages of a Diode?
There are several advantages associated with using diodes. First, they prevent electrical circuits from sustaining damage from overcurrents, short circuits, and overvoltages. Second, they can change alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).
Third, diodes decrease power losses within an electrical circuit. Fourth, diodes can lessen electromagnetic interference (EMI). Lastly, you can execute logic operations with diodes because they can produce logic gates.
What Are the Disadvantages of a Diode?
Though diodes can protect electrical circuits, their efficiency is comparatively low. Their voltage drop is ~0.7V, so they use power even when there is no current flow. The low efficiency makes diodes unideal for electrical circuits that need high efficiency, such as solar cells.
Diodes are susceptible to heat damage. They can experience an overload of current, resulting in damage or failure. A drawback of semiconductor diodes is that they cannot handle high reverse voltage. Also, semiconductor diodes have high noise levels at high frequencies.
What Are the Different Types of Diodes?
Several types of diodes are available on the market, such as PN junction diodes, photodiodes, rectifiers, PIN diodes, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
A PN junction diode, also known as a general purpose diode, has two terminals, the anode and cathode. The current in this diode moves in one direction, from the anode to the cathode. This type of diode has a P-type layer with positive ions and an N-type layer with negative electrons. You can find these diodes in automotive, computer, and communication devices.
A photodiode, called a light detector or photo-detector, uses light energy to yield a current. This device has two electrodes and a radiation-sensitive junction. It is an optoelectronic component that supports a reverse current that changes with illumination. Photodiodes usually consist of materials such as germanium and silicon. People often employ them to detect and convert optical power.
A rectifier takes in AC that has, on average, zero volts. It converts AC to DC. The DC the rectifier yields has a net value of more than zero. Rectification is the name of this AC to DC process. The diode in the rectifier has an anode and cathode and sustains a current that flows in a single direction.
A PIN diode features three semiconductor regions. One of the regions is a p-type semiconductor, and the other is an n-type one. The layer that is between the p-type and n-type layers is the intrinsic region. This region is large and undoped. The p-type and n-type regions have impurities to facilitate ohmic contacts.
A light-emitting diode gives off light radiation via electroluminescence. It has a PN junction and serves as an illuminator or visual indicator. LEDs on the market can support infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light. Plenty of industries use LEDs. You can find them in automobiles, aircraft carriers, televisions, and lamps.
What Are the Common Applications of Diodes?
People use diodes in a variety of ways. They appear in devices found in industrial, commercial, and residential settings.
Many use diodes for rectification. Converting AC to DC helps because it stops voltage spikes. Thus, you will find diodes in items such as surge protectors.
Diodes appear in logic gates because they can enact digital logic functions. You will find diodes in digital electronics, such as computer processors.
Diodes work well for radio demodulation, also known as signal demodulation. This process isolates signals from a supply of current. People use diodes to get radio signals from a carrier. Look at a present-day radio circuit. A diode will likely be there.
Those who need to measure or manipulate light frequently employ diodes to achieve their desired results. Photodiodes can measure light intensity, and LEDs can function as a light source because they appear in illumination technology, such as light bulbs.
Voltage multiplication is another process that people use diodes to perform. The diode, plus a capacitor, will use AC with a low voltage value and multiply it, increasing its voltage. Many electric devices, such as power supplies, feature voltage multipliers.
In conclusion, diodes are vital electrical devices with strengths, limitations, and multiple applications. There are many types of diodes, including rectifiers, photodiodes, and LEDs. Some use diodes on occasion for special electrical applications. Others use them daily because they appear in household appliances, computers, and communication devices. Many tools, systems, and processes could not exist without the assistance of diodes.

Furthermore, led screen for CCTV has become a necessity to leverage security surveillance in the best way possible. Everything that you need to know has been answered in this CCTV monitoring guide. Read on to find out more about it.
What is CCTV monitoring?
CCTV or closed circuit television typically referred to as video monitoring in its early form. The analog cameras send a signal to a specific group of monitors. The cameras were connected to monitors with the help of cables and wires. The footage was processed and stored digitally.
However, a newer version of the analog CCTVs called the IP camera was launched. It transmitted footage live over the internet as a stream of data. Moreover, these cameras don't need a connection to hardware to record footage and later transmit them. As such, remote video monitoring became easier.
Apart from providing you with the high-quality picture, IP cameras include features like motion sensors. It sends alerts to nearby monitoring stations. Because they are equipped with remote control features, you can change the zoom or angle of specific cameras without the need to physically touch the hardware.
These days, many CCTV monitoring devices come with thermal cameras. That way, it makes it possible to capture images, unlike an ordinary camera. Night monitoring in poorly lit areas becomes a breeze with thermal cameras.
Different applications of using CCTV cameras
CCTV monitoring comes with applications for all kinds of sectors. Areas that benefit from CCTV monitoring include the following.

1. How to display several security cameras on one screen
Having footage from multiple cameras on one screen makes CCTV monitoring effective and easy. That's why organizations and property owners invest in security systems that can integrate each camera into a single network and offer a single display.
DVRs and video multiplexers are used to integrate visuals from several cameras on one display. Here are the steps to do it the right way.
·Apart from the necessary accessories that form a part of the whole security system, integration of DVR and multiplexer has to be done.
·Connect the output cables of each camera to the multiplexer.
·Modern-day multiplexers come with in-built DVRs. Even if it doesn't have one, the output of the multiplexer should be connected to the DVR's input.
·The multiplexer or DVR's single output is connected to the screen.
2. How many cameras should display on a single monitor
Typically, the number of cameras that should display on a single monitor depends on the size of the monitor. Also, the number of displays that a single monitor should have depends on the operator viewing the images.
Moreover, the number of views that an operator is expected to monitor depends on the extent of activity on the screen. The treatment exposure of the activity that's being monitored is another factor to be considered.
There is no general rule when it comes to knowing the level of attention needed to monitor certain activities. Some operators may monitor around 100 views in a setting where activity is quite less. Whereas, others may have four screens displayed on a single screen.
3. Different CCTV monitoring system solutions

Which is Better for LED Video Walls: DisplayPort or HDMI?
WhatsApp & wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
From home theater enthusiasts to computer gurus, you won’t find many electronics buffs who don’t applaud the advent of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors. In the days of analog audio and video, the end user was forced to send these signals separately to video displays and audio equipment, with video typically transferred via component connections and audio sent through multiple RCA cables. When digital audio and video arrived, hobbyists and professionals alike were able to connect devices in different ways, including through DVI, SPIDIF, coaxial and, finally, HDMI, the latter of which promised a new era of connection flexibility and installation ease.
And, make good on that promise HDMI did – indeed, finally there was a connection type that could pass all manner of audio and video signals over one cable, rendering home theater and commercial installation projects a proverbial cinch to complete while eliminating the proverbial rat’s nest of wiring previously associated with large installs. From A/V receivers and satellite/cable boxes to Ultra HD televisions, projectors and beyond, HDMI was often dubbed the best thing to happen to the connection cable world.
Yet as the HDMI spec evolved, so did its application blueprint, to the point that we’re now looking at which is better DP or HDMI for LED video walls, which is the topic of discussion for this article. We’ll be focusing on understanding both these choices, how to choose the right one for different applications, the difference between resolution and refresh rate and more.
I. Understanding DisplayPort and HDMI
HDMI and DisplayPort are two standards for connecting devices such as computers, laptops and game consoles to televisions, monitors and projection systems, and each come with advantages and disadvantages. While HDMI, as we suggested above, is the reigning king of compatibility and convenience, power users often cite things that are more appealing about DisplayPort.
These competing display connection standards transmit – as we also hinted at in the introduction portion – both video and audio signals over a single male/male cable to respective female ports on the source device/display, albeit with different “pin” patterns. They’re both physically sturdy and easy to connect, boasting backward and forward compatibility; HDMI uses standard and mini-connectors while DisplayPort uses DisplayPort, Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort and USB 3 connections.
DisplayPort wins the spec war over HDMI, even though not all ports and cables are the same for both, given that they have several version revisions. Let’s now take a brief look at some technical details for these connectors.
HDMI boasts four revision groups as of 2021:
• 1.0-1.2: 4.95 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p at 60 Hz
• 1.3-1.4: 10.2 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p up to 144 Hz and 4K at 30 Hz
• 2.0: 18.0 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p at 240 Hz, 4K at 60 Hz and HDR
• 2.1: 48 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 4K at 144 Hz and 8K at 30Hz
DisplayPort boasts five revision groups as of 2021:
• 1.0-1.1: 10.8 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p at 144 Hz and 4K at 30 Hz
• 1.2: 21.6 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p at 240 Hz, 4K at 75 Hz, and 5K at 30 Hz
• 1.3: 32.4 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports 1080p at 360 Hz, 4K at 120 Hz, 5K at 60 Hz and 8K at 30 Hz
• 1.4: 32.4 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports up to 8K at 60 Hz and HDR
• 2: 80.0 Gbps of data bandwidth that supports up to 16K at 60 Hz with HDR on and up to 10K with HDR off at 80 Hz
Another important factor to note before we move on is that an HDMI port can only connect to one screen, while DisplayPort features Multi-Stream Transport (MST) for multiple screens and daisy-chaining. Further, DisplayPort can connect to four screens at once – though because DisplayPort splits bandwidth between the displays, results will vary depending on the setup.

III. Choosing the Right Option Based on Application
The market availability of HDMI 2.1 – the latest spec – compared to DisplayPort 1.4 is a statement of its use case, market share and how likely you are to find it in retail stores. DisplayPort is readily obtainable in the market, but is limited to workstations and gaming for the most part; this is why it has been the ideal data transmission cable among gamers for years.
On the other hand, HDMI 2.1 can be leveraged for different use cases and settings, though it is also popular amongst gamers, workers and individuals running high-resolution monitors and televisions – including LED video walls.
III-A. Resolution and Refresh Rate
Knowing the type of resolution your preferred cable supports is an important factor that needs to be considered before purchasing any, especially if you already have a display technology you intend to utilize. To put it more succinctly, DisplayPort 1.4 supports 4K resolution at 120Hz and 8K resolution at 60Hz, while HDMI 2.1 supports these resolutions at better refresh rates with a maximum resolution of 10K.
When we speak of “refresh rate,” we’re referring to how often a display device shows an image within a time frame of one second. This figure is measured in “hertz” (Hz) and determines whether there will be lag and increased latency in a video output or not; for example, if a transmission tech boasts a refresh rate of 60Hz, it means it draws or displays 60 images every second. In the HDMI vs. DisplayPort debate, both have impressive rates, but as the resolution under consideration increases, the refresh rates drop significantly. DisplayPort max refresh rates exist in 1080p resolution, and as the resolution gets higher to 1440p, the refresh rate drops to 144Hz and to 120Hz for 2K; conversely, this is quite different from HDMI 2.1, which boasts an overall maximum refresh rate of 240Hz. The difference here is that HDMI 1440p max refresh rate is the same as 1080p and 2K, which is 240Hz, yet the HDMI 4K max refresh rate stands at 120Hz.
III-B. Content Source and Cable Length
The DisplayPort standard pegs optimum data transmission at approximately three (3) meters of cable length, however, the cable can be extended up to 20 meters while allowing, at the very least, a high-definition resolution. The HDMI standard does not specify exact dimensions and capabilities in terms of cable length, though generally they’re shorter than DisplayPort cables and normally come in two (2)-meter lengths for optimum performance.
DisplayPort may not be commonly found on mainstream devices such as gaming consoles, monitors, graphics cards and televisions, but its connectors are common in devices priced higher than average, such as gaming monitors and high-end graphics cards. HDMI connectors come in four sizes – standard, mini, micro and automotive – with each serving a unique purpose; standard HDMI connectors or Type A HDMI connectors are typically used by corporations and personal users. They connect source devices such as gaming consoles and Blu-ray/Ultra HD Blu-ray players to monitors, televisions and projectors.
III-C. Additional Features
DisplayPort connectors have 20 pins, with two sizes available, the standard DisplayPort and a smaller alternative made by Apple called Mini DisplayPort; the latter is the same port as the Thunderbolt variant. While HDMI connectors are typically comprised of 19 pins, the lesser-known Type B variant boasts 29 pins and is used for dual-link applications, whereas the Type E has a locking tab to keep the cable from vibrating loose in automotive applications.
III-D. Compatibility
A question we often hear is: “Can I connect a DisplayPort to an HDMI monitor?” and our answer is always the same – yes and no.
For the record, a DisplayPort signal is not compatible with HDMI, but if the DisplayPort output is a dual mode variant, it has the ability to recognize and adjust the signal to HDMI when a passive adapter cable is connected. From our experience, sometimes this will work and sometimes it won’t; if the DisplayPort graphics card is only a single mode variant, then you must use an active adapter or converter.
Both HDMI and DisplayPort technologies have improved dramatically in recent years, and that shows no signs of slowing down. Between HDMI 2.1 nearly tripling the data rate and bandwidth of version 2.0 – and doubling the capabilities of DisplayPort 1.4 – and expanding support for other visual enhancements like dynamic forms of HDR (Dolby Vision/HDR10+) for richer colors, variable refresh rates for smoother gaming, reduced latency for gaming, faster source media switching and enhanced audio, the future is definitely in the hands of these pin-oriented connectors.
