i’ve been in a bit of a gore mood recently thanks to certain people on my dash (cough cough @versegm, this one’s for you), so i whipped up a fun comic speculating on what the infamous shimousa cave scene might have been like for my dear yanagi. it gets pretty nasty in spots, so it’s going under a cut :3

other facts:

yanagi is a changeling. their mother, while on a business trip in ireland after they had been conceived, crossed a capricious faerie, who cast a spell on her and caused yanagi to transform in utero. this humanoid form is not their base form, and it takes some effort to maintain for extended periods, although they’re very used to it by now.

they have extremely flexible joins and loose ligaments that allow them to twist and bend in ways most humans can’t, but of course, they have some joint issues and chronic pain because of it. in addition, they struggle to digest most food, especially in larger meals, and lose teeth like a shark.

because of their fae nature, yanagi will never use the phrase “my name is x,” only “you can call me x,” and depending on the day, they may use any of a variety of pseudonyms they’ve devised. the most common one is “ryuu.”

most of their magecraft is derived from their fae glamour, namely the abilities to make non-physical illusions and turn themself invisible, however, they have a technique somewhat similar to mystic eyes when their eyes are not glamoured over, which causes paranoia and hallucinations that worsen the longer eye contact is maintained. they avoid using this as much as possible.

they’re a polyglot with fluencies in quite a few languages, but the ones they use most often are japanese, english, and italian. they were actually born in japan, but their family moved to america when they were young. they had a hard time making friends, but someone who got close to them has helped them mellow out over time. still a snarkass, though.
