There’s something to be said about coping through characters, right? About finding a character you relate to, about observing their coping mechanisms- good or bad, canon or not- and adopting them into your own life. About attaching to a character who uses food as a love love language so you bake cookies for the next time you see people you care about. About latching onto a character who has pins and patches on a homemade battlevest, about picking that fact apart in your brain and knowing that they poured hours of time and work into that, and finally taking the plunge of sewing on those patches you bought years ago but we’re to scared to jut on your jacket. About knowing what music a character likes and listening to it on repeat for hours. Something about seeing yourself in a fictional person’s mannerisms or trauma or background, and finding new ways of comforting and healing yourself in the same way they comfort and heal themselves. There’s something there, but I need somebody else write it out because I feel it too deep in my chest to put it eloquently
