I´ve already talked about Yokai Watch Gakuen, but I have been rewatching the series and I have to admit that now I enjoy season 3, I just needed to rewatch so I could understand everything, but yeah, go watch Gakuen, you won´t regret it!

More academy Y stuff! :D

At the time of making this I'm currently on episode 39, so I don't know everything yet. But me and the friend who came up with this liked the idea of Kumako making the YSP watch after getting her hands on an yokai watch, or yokai watch blueprints. (I mean, she had to get the idea somehow)

And while both of us also enjoy Kumako as a character... we're in agreement we aren't letting her live down that she made a watch that's about the same as being inspirited by cheeksqueek. XP

First episode of Academy Y (some minor spoilers) and a theory

It’s pretty good, definitely made me more interested in the series. Though I don’t know if it’s a good representation since it takes place before the film, and the rest of the series takes place after it.

The intro is great. I like its animation and fast pace, with lots of blink-and-you-miss-it stuff that make me curious (thank goodness Level 5 uploaded it to youtube so I can just pause). I might pick it apart later and give my thoughts, because oh boy do I have some thoughts.

That’s my basic opinion on it. I’ll probably post updates when something that really interests me pops up. This episode did have something that interested me, though, so I’m going to talk about it.

The biggest thing that caught my attention was, of course, Whisper (or Haruhiko as he’s called in this series) but not just because he’s my favorite character this time, because

This is the same shit Fukuro pulled for the first episode of Shadowside.

Though, it seems that this seems to be more of a test to see if Jiba and Koma can go to the academy and get the YSP Watch.

(I know that’s their last names, but I find it easier to know what character they’re based on, I’ll switch between first and last names for convenience of understanding).

I’m basing it on the way Enra was following them, seemed pleased that they beat the monster, and gave a report to the head of the academy, Kinya, about Jiba and Koma, mentioning the YSP Watch.

She and Haruhiko are both teachers at the academy so maybe they were just putting his power to good use to test potential heroes for the YSP Watch.

However, he might still be a bad guy or more of a neutral character than he has been in the past.

Not only is the instance of him turning someone into a monster (admittedly debatable) evidence, but also how he appears in the intro.

He only shows up once, and it’s for a short amount of time. It’s a still shot of this image:

before he says the “why” part in the lyrics of the song, clearly in the same position as he is here (you can see his hands above his mouth).

This interests me because in an intro with a lot of fast-paced moments, and with other shots that linger usually having some type of animation/movement happening, having a lingering shot with no animation is noticeable. Especially when an important establishing shot like the one with the other heroes, besides Benimaru, is MUCH shorter.

I’d also like to point out that this happens near the very end of the intro. There was a shot earlier with Enra and Kinya, as well as students such as Emma and the Yamadas, but Haruhiko wasn’t there.

Also, with purple aura usually being associated with ‘bad’ in Yokai Watch, the purple tint on his glasses in the intro and in the episode could also be an indicator that he’s a bad guy, along with the general lighting of the shot.
