the thing about golden kamuy is that if you took basically any of the characters and slotted them into another series they would be the most batshit insane character in that series. but you line them all up together and they’re just one of the boys.

#there are multiple characters who have committed cannibalism at some point and they have almost nothing to do with each other #two characters with traumatic brain injuries #more extremely weird psychosexual hangups than you can count #in any given scene there is probably a non-zero number of characters wearing a shirt made out of tattooed human skin #one of the main characters is functionally immortal and it’s like. barely a thing.#i mean it IS a thing it’s got a lot of thematic significance but it’s also only a very small component of what that story is about #every chapter you meet a brand new freak of nature. a new kind of guy (or occasionally gal) previously unknown to science #you flip over a rock and a whole bunch of golden kamuy characters come scurrying out from under it.
