#Repost @womenphotograph ・・・ Photo by @Robin_Schwartz Tourist and pigs mingle on Major Cay, Bahamas for The New York Times Magazine I was asked to pitch my dream vacation for a The New York Times Magazine voyager assignment. My 10th pitch got the assignment. Distracted during the teaching semester, I did not do my voyager assignment research. I had not understood that I could really pitch a true dream vacation anywhere! My first pitch was in New Jersey. The swimming pigs of the Bahamas documentation came from editing a National Geographic Your Shot assignment that I created: “The Animals We Love”, June 2014. I contacted the photographers who submitted for the published story and for the Behind the Scene publication (those photos that did not make the editing cut, but images that stuck in my head) for more information to write my comments. It was exciting to find out the back story behind the photos. I had written 2000 comments for the 15,000+ submissions in 3 weeks and blew out my finger that like images. The job was a educational gift. My inspiration for the voyager assignment was seeing a photo of a pig swimming toward a boat, the metadata said the pig smelled the pizza on the boat, in the Bahamas. A year later my friend Miki answered my questions about her experience on Major Cay so I could manage getting there. My editor and I expected a serene setting of cute pigs. What I experienced was akin to a Saturday Night Live party of over-the-top ecstatic international tourists maniac ecstatically about nine giant pigs.
