How he never doubted Wei Wuxian’s intentions. He knew he was a good person, and though he didn’t understand why he’d turned to demonic cultivation, he never bought into the idea that he was evil or seeking power. People think he’s cold and arrogant because he looks impassive and isn’t good at socializing, but he’s a good judge of character.

least favorite thing about them

How the aforementioned bad social skills caused miscommunication that he wasn’t really able to clear up for a long time. If he’d tried to convey his true intentions more clearly to Wei Wuxian and better voice his support to him, Wei Wuxian wouldn’t have felt so lonely and rejected by the whole world and perhaps things might have played out a bit differently. It’s kinda tragic how he’s able to stand up for him to others, but Wei Wuxian doesn’t really get to see how he’s actually on his side until his second life.

“The feeling of sticking to the single-log bridge until it’s dark is indeed not bad.”

Aka when he finally, clearly, beautifully communicates to Wei Wuxian (and the whole cultivation world) where he actually stands. This unwavering show of support. I take that scene as his declaration of love.

I love his relationship with his brother, but also: Lan Sizhui! I’m super super weak for their father-son relationship. I wish we could have seen some flashbacks of him raising him over the years but at least there’s a lot of great fanfics to fill my need x3

I honestly can’t see him with anyone else than Wei Wuxian, ever. Their relationship is such a central part of his character, it’s impossible for me to separate them.

random headcanon

He actually made the decision to drink the alcohol when Wei Wuxian wanted to get him to drink when they were young, rather than doing it because he was being controlled. At the time, he wanted to get closer to him, and in the moment he impulsively decided to indulge him (also because deep down he wanted to try acting like a “normal” boy his age). Ofc when he woke up he regretted everything and was very ashamed to have given in to this impulse, which is why he was so eager to get punished despite Wei Wuxian trying to give him an out.

favorite thing about them

How despite his insecurity and jealousy, he genuinely loved Wei Wuxian as a brother and could be proud of him and his successes (one scene that marked me for example is when they’re shooting kites and Wei Wuxian manages to score when he didn’t, and he just looked happy about it; you could have expected him to have a conflicted reaction to Wei Wuxian besting him again but in that instance he was just proud of him and I loved that).

least favorite thing about them

How, despite the previous point, he did let his insecurity win out in the end. He’s too easily governed by his anger. It’s also heartbreaking to see him reproduce his parents’ treatment of him with Jin Ling. He was a kid who suffered from not getting the open affection he needed from his parents, and yet when he’s in a position to do it with a kid in need of affection, he doesn’t. Treat your nephew better Jiang Cheng!

Not really a “line”, but I love the way he says “Wei Wuxian” or “You!” when he’s annoyed XD

OTP

Wen Qing. I really loved the “what could have been” romance developing (and eventually petering out before it could progress) between them. And it adds a tragic dimension to his opposition to saving the Wen remnants. Lots of sad feels all around. But it’s great fodder for fix-it fics. I love their dynamics when they’re paired in happier settings.

Wei Wuxian ig? They’re brothers. Oh and Lan Wangji, because that’d be weird af hahaha.

He eventually somewhat repairs his relationship with Wei Wuxian. It’ll never truly be like before, but they finally reach a point where they can admit they still care about each other. I think getting some closure on that front can also help him reach a better mental state and let go of some of his anger, leading him to be a bit more pleasant to others (to Jin Ling’s secret delight).

What’s the popular opinions about him? XD

I don’t think he’s a terrible person. He has a lot of flaws to work on, but I can see where he was coming from when he made some of his worst decisions, and while I wouldn’t say he was “right”, I wouldn’t exactly say he was “wrong” either. He was in a difficult position and did what he thought he should in those circumstances. He’s a very tragic character, I think.

I want an Untamed Airport AU.

Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen are ace pilots of Clouds Recesses Airlines. Lan Wangji met Wei Wuxian in flight school (and fell in love). They worked together for a while, but Wei Wuxian was fired from the company and disowned from his adoptive family after a controversial crash landing (in which Jiang Yanli was badly injured) and he disappeared for a while after that. (Jin Manufacturing Inc. launched a smear campaign to blame the pilot in order to obscure the fact their faulty parts were the cause of the engine failure to begin with.)

Wei Wuxian reappears a few years later as a flight attendant because he just couldn’t give up being in the air and he happens to get assigned to Lan Wangji’s flights regularly. They reconnect and lots of pining ensues.

Lan Qiren is CEO of the airline and used to be an instructor at the flight school.

Jiang Cheng used to be a pilot too but the accident prompted him to start working for the transportation safety board.

Jiang Yanli used to be a flight attendant but she had to retire due to her injury. Now she’s a housewife raising Jin Ling and maintains a popular cooking blog.

Mianmian and Qin Su are flight attendants (Qin Su didn’t marry JGY here).

Nie Mingjue is an airforce fighter pilot.

Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao are ATC.

Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan are ground staff.

Xue Yang and A-Qing work at one of the airport cafés.

Su She failed flight school and became TSA instead.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning work for the airport’s emergency services. They and their family took Wei Wuxian in after he was thrown out. Wei Wuxian adopted A-Yuan during that time (possible idea: A-Yuan’s parents died in the crash?).

The main Wen branch used to own an airline as well but it went bankrupt a few years ago.

As mentioned earlier, the Jins run a big company that manufacture plane parts and engines. Their tendency to cut corners has been the cause of a number of crashes, which they’ve always managed to obfuscate until now. There’s a conspiracy to uncover here~
