kohane’s smile was soft as a new visitor approached the temple, she set aside the broom she’d been using to sweep the temple grounds. “welcome,” she said, voice soft as she gestured towards the temple. “please feel free to take your prayers there, if you would like fortune telling, all you need to do is ask.”

“ lady t-tova. i am a-andromeda, the heiress of house glaes. ” you bow, and remove your red leather gloves, letting them hit the ground in front of your feet. “ it’s m-my honor to d-duel you. ”  your words are perfectly rehearsed and hollow, and you couldn’t care less about formalities. “ i’m g-giving you the chance to b-back out now. ”

a beat. neither of you are going to back down. you can feel dolores’ eyes on you, and the shadow of her icy grasp around your neck. you can’t back down now, now that your stepmother is watching.

you lift your hand shakily- and channel the magic that weaves into everything, every part of you. dark magic rises from your shadow, curling around your legs and waist like a blanket of night- and you launch it at tova- with the overwhelming force of your anger, of your darkest thoughts and emotions. 

                                                                            it begins.

     “Oh,  dear !  Do not move.”  Given the notable height difference between them (and Claude’s lean build),  Ferdinand thinks it far more effective to simply catch Claude by the crook of his knees and scoop him up in his strong,  war-built arms.  After all,  Ferdinand has practiced the motion to perfection plenty of times on the battlefield.  

     He deposits Claude on the aforementioned divan a few paces away from the hearth he had lit about an hour prior,  then dips to one knee in front of Claude,  touch held a demure distance away  after breeching propriety so thoroughly a mere moment ago.  “May I look at the wound ?  Perhaps I can help—I have been practicing my white magic.”

Sanguine hues fix themselves upon the other, expression still and impassive pale marble cracking with quiet surprise. It's almost pitiful how they continuously extended a hand to one as cold and void as herself, undeterred by her lack of response, her lacking self, detached from such interactions. She can't help but feel apologetic, guilty that such efforts were being wasted on her hollow being ; but still she is gripped by a paradox, a dilemma of being neither worthy to accept such kindness nor to refuse it, pulling her stagnant heart to act, at last recognising a quiet curiosity of the other that sprouted there unbeknownst to her.

Asuka sighed, a beleaguered thing, before she shut the locker and turned to look at her classmate. “Half the class is routinely not here, because their families wised up and pulled them out to the country side, it’s really not that unusual,” she told her. “Or because they’re injured and in the hospital. Don’t worry, you get used to it.”

and you retreat. back into the gardens your mother had designed, away from the party- away from the eyes that seemed to peirce your persona of the ever dutiful child. it’s far more peaceful out here- at least, if you were to cry- the only witness to it would be the fountains and the songbirds.
