What is Neo-Salafi?
I asked some of the students of knowledge last year regarding the term Neo-Salafi and these were their responses:
Abbas Abu Yahya حفظه الله: These people who follow their desires or are ignorant say that you Salafis are a new breed of Salafi. They use this term to scare people away from the Sunnah and the way of the Salaf.
Abu Ishaac Nadeem حفظه الله: Neo means new or modified so some people were claiming that others had come up with a new form of salafiyyah. This is not true. It is either salafiyyah or it isn't.
Abu Afnan Muhammad حفظه الله: There is no such thing. It us a term used by those who want to disparage certain brothers by saying they are extreme in certain aspects of the religion mainly refuting the hizbees and people of bid'ah. Neo means like new or modern
Abdulhakeem Mitchell حفظه الله: They usually use this to refer to the salafis. This is usually by the khawarij.

THE FITNAH OF THE GAME DOTA (Defense of the Ancient)
I recently sent a question to Ustādh Moosaa Richardson حفظه الله regarding the well known online game called DOTA (Defense of the Ancient). Below is the question and the answer:
Assalamu 'alaykum warahmatullah. Most of the muslims in our country have been playing a game called DOTA, and some brothers told me that it has a story about the greek gods and some other ancient myths and the characters in the game use magic and spells to fight each other. Some muslims end up in the internet shop for 12hrs or so while some gamble. What is your advice to these shabab?
He responded: “Wa 'alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. This is from the Shaytaan, if he can't get Muslims to worship deities and to deal in magic, he gets them to love the culture and immerse themselves in it, while "officially" they denounce false gods and magic. How can we denounce false deities and magic, yet this is how we choose to entertain ourselves?! Tell them to fear Allaah and come to their senses. Recommend a study of Kitaab at-Towheed, and beg them to stay out of such places.” -end quote.
Shaykh Ahmad An-Najmī رحمه الله said:
Tawheed is a principle of Islaam, upon which Islaam is built, it is the condition of its acceptance, by way of it, the good deeds are accepted and the evil deeds are forgiven, by it the servant enters into Jannah, and he is saved from the Hellfire. Due to it, the Messengers of God and the polytheists fell into disputes, and due to it, the swords of Jihaad clashed and due to it both Hellfire and Paradise were created.
The opposite of at Tawheed is Shirk (polytheism), i.e. the opposite of worshipping Allaah alone is shirk, which is to set up rivals unto Allaah in worship. Shirk nullifies the good deeds, just as Allaah has stated:
Due to shirk, the servant is forbidden from Paradise and he has his eternal residence in the Fire that is made obligatory upon him. For this reason, the concern and consideration for Tawheed is the most important of all affairs, the most obligatory of obligations and its abandonment, turning away from it and turning away from learning it is the greatest of all tribulations. So for this reason, it is binding upon each and every servant to study Tawheed and to study that which nullifies it, negates it or diminishes it and that which defames or vilifies it’s worth.

Clarification on the statement of Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn regarding Salafiyyah - ʿAbdulilāh Lahmāmī
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
I asked Dr. Abdulilah Lahmami حفظه الله if what did Shaykh ‘Uthaymeen رحمه الله meant on the Salafi sect. He replied:
❝Yā akhī, this kalām of Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen رحمه الله, he mentioned it in front of Shaykh Rabee', and Shaykh Rabee' corrected him by saying "Do not put Salafiyyah with all the other groups", then at the end Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen رحمه الله said "Take from your brother what he has said". So they have cut it without mentioning the rest of the tape, so they are deceiving people, or they are ignorant Bārakallāhu feek.
Secondly,  Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen رحمه الله in 'Aqīdatul Wasitiyyah himself says "Whoever follows the Qur'ān and Sunnah in the understanding Salaf then he is Salafī. [Page 34 Sharh Al-'Aqīdatul Wasitiyyah].
Also my dear brother, Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen رحمه الله i met myself personally, in Hajj time, and mentioned to him about his Kalām regarding, he said what he is against is that you don't be partisan, thinking that you are saved (Not correcting mistakes), and that's what he was against, not against ascribing to the way of the Salaf Bārakallāhu feek.
And as I said Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said in volume 4 p.149 bārakallāhu feek, there is no harm in ascribing to the way of the Salaf, and saying I'm a Salafi. They used it in the past, and we use it now. Imām Adh-Dhahabi رحمه الله said in Siyār An-Nubalā, 'Abdullah bin Mubarak As-Salafi. So it's not an issue Akhī Barakallāhu feek.
And as I said Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen رحمه الله took it back, when he was corrected by shaykh Rabee' when Shaykh Rabee' visited the 'Unayza. So tell this people, stop lying about the Shaykh, or at least know what the Shaykh is saying Bārakallāhu feek.❞ -End Quote
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah, and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah

What is Kadayawan?
The Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival in the city of Davao in the Philippines. Its name derives from the friendly greeting "Madayaw", from the Dabawenyo word "dayaw", meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living. It is held every third week of August.
It’s origin is Shirk
This ritual serves as their thanksgiving to the gods particularly to the "Manama" (the Supreme Being) and Bulan (a moon deity) that the first gathering was on a night of a full moon, It was said that, long time ago, Ancient Visayans and Davao's ethnic tribes residing at the foot of Mount Apo would converge during a bountiful harvest and had to celebrate the full moon because they believed "the diwata came to earth at that time" so did the other islanders and tribesmen. The full moon was greeted with a variety of names- 'paghipono', 'takdul', 'ugsar'- but most significantly as "dayaw" [at present it is kadayaw in some Bisayan Islands], perfect or praiseworthy, fit recognition of its spectacular shape and sunset-to-sunrise brilliance. It was so beautiful that the pre-colonial people praised and believed it was the reason for their bountiful harvest
What is Shirk?
Ash-Shaikh al-Allaamah Ahmad bin Yahyaa an-Najmee (رحمه الله) said:
The reality of Shirk is: that you make a rival unto Allah, that you believe this rival can bring about benefit, or prevent harm, and this is the Major Shirk (Major Polytheism) which Allah will not forgive. For this reason one fears from falling into Shirk, and is cautious from what it leads to of disastrous, wicked punishments.
So with respect to Major Shirk (ash-Shirk al-Akbar), then their is no differing [amongst the scholars] in the fact that Allah will not forgive the one who is guilty of it, and he will not remove him from the Fire.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ
Verily! Allah forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom he pleases sins other than that, and whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah
[Surah Nisa verse 116 | Translator: Muhsin Khan]
[Ash-Sharh al-Moojaz al-Mumahhad li Tawheed al-Khaaliq al-Mumajjad alladhi allafahu Shaikhul-Islaam Muhammad | Translator: Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Wahid]
It is an innovation
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours (Islam) that which is not part of it shall have it rejected.”
[Sahih Bukhari and Muslim | Translator: Abul Abbas Moosa Richardson]
There is no such thing as good innovation
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar رضي الله عنه said:
Every bid’ah (religious innovation) is misguidance, even if people think it is good. Owais Al-Hashimi
[Al-Ibânah Al-Kubraa Vol.1 p219, no. 213 | Translator: Owais Al-Hashimi]
Imitation of disbelievers
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Whoever imitates a people is from them.”
[Abu Dawood | Translator: Abul Abbas Moosa Richardson]
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Be different from the Jews and the Christians
[Al-Bukharee and Muslim | Translator: salafipublications.com]
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Be different from the disbelievers
Al-Bukharee and Muslim | Translator: salafipublications.com]
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
You will follow the ways of those who passed before you exactly in the same manner. Even if they enter the hole of a lizard, you will also enter it." They (his companions) said: "O, Messenger of Allah, do you mean Jews and Christians ?" He said, "Then, who else?"
[Sahih Al-Bukhari | Translator: salafipublications.com]
Celebrating the Festivals of the Unbelievers
‘Umar b. Al-Khattâb رضي الله عنه said,
“Stay well away from the enemies of Allâh during their festivals.”
“Do not learn the speech of the non-Arabs (unbelievers) and do not enter upon the polytheists in their churches during their holidays, for the wrath [of Allâh] descends upon them then.”
‘Abdullâh b. ‘Amr b. Al-‘Âs رضي الله عنه  said,
“Whoever takes residence in the lands of the non-Arabs (unbelievers) and takes part in their Nayrûz and their Mahrijân (two Persian festivals) and copies them until the day he dies will be resurrected and gathered with them on the Day of Resurrection.”
[Al-Bayhaqî, Al-Sunan Al-Kubrâ Vol. 9 p234.]
Shaykh Al-Islâm Ibn Taymîyah رحمه الله said:
“So ‘Umar forbade the learning of their language and merely entering upon them in their churches on their festivals, so what about one who does what they do? Or what about someone who wants to do something that is part of their religion? Isn’t agreeing with them in actions even more serious than agreeing with them in their language? Isn’t doing some of the things they do in their festivals even more serious than just entering upon them during their festivals? And if the wrath [of Allâh] descends upon them during their festivals because of the things they do, isn’t the person who partakes in their actions or some of their actions exposing himself to the punishment for this? And the statement of [‘Umar], ‘Stay well away from the enemies of Allâh during their festivals,’ isn’t this a prohibition from meeting with them and getting together with them? So what about a person who actually does what they do?”
[Majmû’ Al-Fatâwâ Vol. 23 p325]
Holidays Are Part of the Complete Deen
Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم once saw the Ansaar celebrating a certain day. He inquired about that and was informed: This is one of two days that we used to celebrate in Jaahiliyyah (pre-Islaamic ignorance) and we continue to do so. He replied: Nay! Allaah has substituted for you two better days: the day of al-Fitr and the day of al-Adhhaa.[Authentic; narrated by Ahmad, an-Nasaaee, and others]
In addition to these two days, the Jumu’ah (Friday) is an eid day. The Prophet  صلى الله عليه وسلم said: This is a day which Allaah has designated as an eid for Muslims. [Authentic] From this and the previous hadeeth, we conclude that Muslims have only three eid days, a weekly eid every Friday, and two annual eids, al-Fitr and al-Adhhaa.
Also, Islaam instructs us as to how to celebrate our eids. No fasting is allowed on these days (Friday is excepted under certain conditions). On eid days, Muslims take a bath and wear their best clothes. They avoid all forms of sinning which people tend to commit when they are in a state of rejoice. The major part of the celebration is not eating or drinking. Rather, it is a prayer which gathers Muslims together to remember Allaah's bounties and to chant His glory and greatness.
Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta:
The clear-cut evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah, upon which the Salaf (righteous predecessors) of this Ummah (nation based on one creed) unanimously agreed, confirms that there are only two Eids (festivals) in Islam: Eid-ul-Fitr (the Festival of Breaking the Fast) and Eid-ul-Adha (the Festival of the Sacrifice). Any other festival, whether peculiar to a person, a group, an event, or any other reason, is an invented festival that is not permissible for Muslims to celebrate, approve of, enjoy, or support in any way, because this is considered to be a transgression of the Limits of Allah. Anyone who transgresses the limits set by Allah has wronged themselves. If we add to this fabricated festival the fact that it is one of the festivals of the Kafirs (disbelievers), this heaps sin upon sin, because it entails resembling them and is a type of support of them. Allah (may He be Glorified) forbids the Mu’mins (believers), in His Ever-Glorious Book, from imitating or supporting the Kafirs.

Refuting the doubt 'take the good and leave the bad'
They say "Abū Hurairah learnt Ayatul Kursi from Shaitan, so this is our proof for taking the good and leaving the bad" --------------------------- Abu Khadeejah: "Tell them to go and sit with the Shaitaan and seek knowledge from him since they believe it is permitted." --------------------------- Abu Iyaad: 1. First, they are not Abu Hurairah, the Companion, so first the comparison is nullfied, unless they think they have the same status. 2,. Second, Abu Hurairah never went to study with Shaytaan. 3. Abu Hurairah (ra) encountered him and the Shaitan happened to speak a bit of truth, though he is a great liar. 4. The fact that he was described a great liar is an indication that he is not to believed in general, and thus that is a warning against listening to him. --------------------------- Abu Ishaac Nadeem: 1. Abu hurairah didn't go searching for the shaytaan to learn from him! 2. Abu hurairah didn't accept what was told to him rather he informed the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم what happened. 3. Reciting Ayatulkursi before sleeping only became a sunnah after the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم Told us that this part of the liar's speech was true! How now can anyone justify studying with someone unknown? Or worse, somebody known for misguidance!? Subhanallah --------------------------- Abu Afnan Muhammad: Ahl sunnah accept the truth from whoever brings it. However, there is a difference between hearing the truth and accepting it and seeking someone out to learn from. Abu Hurairah did not go to shaitaan to seek ilm or to learn from or saying 'i'll take the good and leave the bad'. Rather, he took what he heard and told the prophet who affirmed what he heard. So ahl sunnah do not seek the people of falsehood, bidah etc. to learn from saying theyll take the good and leave the bad. The person is in a state of learning, how will he know the good from the bad? Rather, they accept the truth upon hearing it. -------------------------- Question asked by Tāhir bin Mansoor 21st Ramadhan 1437.

What should we do if there is differences of opinion in Fiqh Issues?
I asked Abu Afnan Muhammad Abdullah حفظه الله if what is his advise on how we should deal with the differences of opinion in Fiqh Issues.
He responded: “Follow the opinion which is safest or from the scholar you feel is most knowledgeable and pious. Also, if the majority of salafi scholars have an opinion and one or 2 have another opinion, follow the majority whilst keeping in mind the majority does not necessitate correctness. If one has an understanding of Usool al Fiqh and understands which argument is strongest and why according to sound principles, then he follows what he feels is the strongest opinion based on the proofs and evidences and understanding what takes precedence and why.”
