There's something sad to me about me headcanoning that Hank and Mariko become friends in most verses but as Jay explains the Krakoa arc to me I'm just sitting there like...."oh so Mariko has to kill him in this universe, oh no"

Notes on the Muramasa's blade and its influence on Mariko:

We've only really seen the effects of the blade on members of Logans family, how it accentuated Ahikiro's feralness. With Mariko I'm trying to explore how the blade (made with a piece of Logans soul) affects those who are not genetically apart of his family.

With Mariko, the blade seems to almost accentuate her anger. She gets angrier easier, can snap without meaning to. She gets the itch to go out and fight more, which translates into her doing more vigilante work.

As she has the blade for longer, that's when we start to see her lose control. She starts biting at people. She blacks out and goes into frenzies sometimes when she's fighting.

With the blades influence on Mariko, you can kinda see just how much control the entire X family has. How well they have to keep themselves together.

You think Mariko Yashida, the woman who still has a hard time trusting men, who murdered the alcoholic abusive piece of shit her father tried to marry her off to, who somehow managed to land her way into an immortal killing soul sword is gonna let shit fly when she even hears an inkling of the shit Beast was doing to Logan? You think Hank is gonna survive that???? Mariko has said more than once that Logan is a far more gracious and merciful person than she is. The entire Krakoan council will be lucky if they don't lose their actual heads for these crimes.

I fear my version of Mariko may never be able to be in Krakoa, simply because the second she finds out about the torture pit people will start dying

A LITTLE NOTE ON MARIKO'S SCARLET SAMURAI ARMOR:

In my iteration, Mariko's armor isn't something she makes, or gets from The Hand. The suit of Scarlet Samurai armor is a family heirloom from Mariko's mothers side of the family, passed down for centuries. It's the only thing Mariko has left from her mother, as her father purged their house of everything of her mothers but the armor after her mother's death.

The armor is connected to an old family tale her mother used to tell her about the wife of this old Japanese general, who's husband died in battle right outside of their small village. In her grief and an attempt to protect her family and village, the wife took the husband's armor, put it on herself, and proceeded to run into battle herself and help defeat the invaders.

Marikos mother told her the tale all the time when Mariko was growing up, and always seemed to love it a lot more that Mariko did. The armor represents something Mariko lost.

Did I make Mariko a mutant because I wanted to have an easier time having her interact with x-men muses? Maybe so.

Did I also do it because the idea of this little short samurai having enhanced durability just being hard to fucking kill is super funny? And because her cousin Shiro is literally Sunfire so we know the mutant gene runs in the family? And because Yukio is considered Marikos sister in some iterations? Maybe so.

Mariko loves Logan's kids, and that's something I think is very important.

She becomes close with the kids before her and Logan ever get closer, in my world. Mariko avoids the idea of her and Logan for a bit because of her past experiences, because of her father trying to marry her off to a man she had to murder in order to escape. She had a strained relationship with men in general. But kids? She loves kids. Mariko always wanted to be a mother, always saw how wonderful her mother was to her and wanted to emulate that for children in the future. She meets Laura and Gabby and even Akihiro, and she loves those damn kids immediately.

She loves Logan, and she cares about him a lot, but she knows that he comes with his kids, and she loves them just as much.

"It's not a good day for him. You know how he gets on days like that," there was a part of Mariko that felt an overwhelming sense of guilt at being unable to help Logan when he was like this, unable to understand. There are bits and pieces Mariko can relate to, the small portions Logan has shared with her over a drink or a night sky. But Logan was a man who had lived a very long and very painful life, and Mariko knew deep down that some days, she just couldn't help him like she wanted to. "I texted him a bit ago. I figure he'll respond whenever he'd like. I'm trying not to be too down his throat, being overbearing will only serve to upset him."

a gentle shrug of the shoulders was all she could muster. slipping off the leather jacket that cloaked her shoulders before off came her signature leather gloves next. “ I was - ” that had been the mission. seemingly simple at first thought but actually quite complex upon execution. perching herself against the edge of the desktop , anna - marie wore the sign of defeat visibly. “ you and I both know wolvie. if he isn’t ready to leave the bar and come home , not even I can change his mind. ” logan had almost become like a big brother to rogue and she knew there was no convincing him to do something he didn’t want to do. “ have you tried talking to him ? ”
